Dead Space Extraction Is As Long As The Original

dailygamesnews.com - An EA rep has commented that Dead Space: Extraction on Wii is just about the same length in game time as the original, which lasted about 12 hours. That's not a massively long time, but considering Dead Space: Extraction is an 'on rails' shooter, that's a lot more than most games of its genre.

This game was 4hr long..
Dead Space was 12hr long

So. 12hr and 4hr are same? Not

SpoonyRedMage6023d ago

He lied.... the game's Uber short and has no real replay value... I regret spending £40 on it.

Bnet3436023d ago

Yeah, you actually bought it? All I have to ask is what were you thinking. I'll go on ahead and say it right now, I have not played Extraction but I have played the original and beat it. Judging by reviews, I'm pretty sure the original is a better experience.

hatchimatchi6023d ago

yea spoony pretty much summed it up.

the game IS short as can be and has zero replay value.

I bought it and beat it in 2 sessions which lasted a grand total of probably 6 hours.

It doesn't compare at all to the original and for the life of me i cannot figure out why it gets great reviews and why people say it changes the way on rail shooter are played.

it's not a horrible game but it's definitely not a 'great' game by any means. It's worth a rental but definitely not a purchase.

PS360WII6023d ago

I think he may be adding in the challange maps as well. This game was awesome though and gave a lot of Dead Space mythos which is uber as the story for Dead Space is pretty interesting ^^

That said though I am eagerly waiting the next PS3/360 Dead Space, but still think they should make another Extraction 2 lol. More Dead Space is all I want

SpoonyRedMage6023d ago

See... that's the sad thing, also applies to Madworld, Halo 3: ODST and Modern Warfare 2... they're really short but those few hours are immense, they're not really worth buying at full price.

PS360WII6023d ago

True but when lining up Extraction to a lot of other games of it's type they don't really hold a candle to Dead Space.. maybe the Umbrella Chronicles but even then I think Extraction takes the cake.

So I really don't have a problem with the full price of this game but then this guy tries to compair it to the 3rd person game, and well you just shouldn't do that. Sure if you run thru DS:1 and take your time in DS:E they might take the same time but they are still blatently different games.

EvilTwin6023d ago

Spoony -- The difference with games like Halo or COD is that multiplayer is the biggest time sink. You may only spend 6 hours on the single player, but then you've got a lot of online fragging to take care of. I think I've put 30 hours or so into COD:MWR so far.

Extraction and MadWorld, OTOH, don't really have much replay incentive...5 or 6 hours for $50 is a bad deal. People can put over 100 hours into an online shooter. That's $0.60 per hour of gaming (using 360/PS3 pricing). At $50, MadWorld is $8.34 per hour of gaming. You can go buy a DVD at Wal-Mart for that much, and if it's a good movie, you'll watch it quite a few times.

$20 is a much fairer deal. But for some reason, publishers are convinced that every single game is worth $50 or $60. And they're wrong.

PS360WII6023d ago (Edited 6023d ago )

But you also have to count those who don't play online. You may have 30 hours for multiplayer but some other guy just has the 6 hours for the single player and that's it.

So for the offline player COD, Halo and whatever those games would be worth the 20 bucks the online player feels MadWorld and DS: Extration should be.

Which is why publishers just charge the 50/60 for all games

I played through it was was about half that. But there is replay value in it with the challenge modes. I liked the game and I'm a fan of the series.

EA Cut Dead Space's Marketing Budget to Pour Into Mirror's Edge Due to Mock Review Scores

Former Visceral Games devs reveal Dead Space's marketing budget was cut in favor of Mirror's Edge because of mock review scores.

I wish EA would just release a DS2 remake. DS is my favorite horror game and DS2 is the best one in the franchise. But because DS1 failed to meet certain numbers EA scrapped the DS2 remake. SH2 remake was great rumors are Konami might be asking for another SH remake. The RE2 remake was great EA just needs to give it another try. But all they seem to do is shitty sports games that are no different from the year before. Change a few players, add different uniform colours, maybe change a team logo. Wash, rinse, repeat.

goken522d ago

Agreed. DS was great. But DS2 was even better. Would love to see a DS2 remake, though I would love to see a DS4 even more.
The problem with EA is they make easy $ from the slight changes to their sports titles like football FC games (whatever it’s called nowadays). People just lap that sh1t up.
Comparatively, games like DS which don’t sell 10s of millions, can’t sell them team player add ons and all the like, would seem a hassle to make and unappealing comparatively. Especially when you consider that most EA non sport titles haven’t actually performed well recently.

Dark Souls 2, Darksiders 2, Dead Space 2, Death Stranding 2, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2

chicken_in_the_corn521d ago

The Dead space remake was so good. Better than the original. Shame they won't remake 2.

__y2jb521d ago

I loved the original dead space but the remake I just found boring. Game design has moved on and the game really showed its age, just small area encounters repeated again and again.

I bought Dead Space during launch window and I never bought a Mirror's Edge game .

Inverno521d ago

Then they went on to screw both games over.

UnbreakableAlex521d ago

I'd rather see a new and great Mirrors Edge than another boring Dead Space.

EA Japan Exec Criticises Japanese Ratings Board

An executive of Electronic Arts Japan has criticised the Japanese video game ratings board for allowing upcoming action game Stellar Blade to be released uncensored while EA's own Dead Space was banned in the country.

CrimsonWing69769d ago

He’s got a point. If a game is M-Rated, which is the equivalent of an R rating, I don’t get why you need to censor anything. The rating is the indicator of the content and the age appropriate. If it’s appropriate for adults… why treat them like children? 🤷‍♂️

Eonjay769d ago (Edited 769d ago )

This is about gore... not about anything sexual. And specifically I think it is about the realistic depiction of gore. Unfortunately I don't know the nuance of the CERO board or how it is relevant their specific culture (as a prohibition on gore may transcend age) so I hesitate to make a statement. Can anyone else provide insight to what kind of gore is considered unacceptable?

CrimsonWing69769d ago (Edited 769d ago )

Yea, I know this is about gore, but thanks for pointing that out.

My point still stands, if a game is essentially rated for a mature audience then why censor for them as if they’re too young to view it? Makes no sense.

To answer your question: Decapitation, dismemberment, like… anything gore. They have been censoring that since CERO was established. Look up RE4 chainsaw decapitation or any MK games that made it there.

Cacabunga769d ago

EA Japan? Wtf never heard of that

ZwVw769d ago

Yet, the Oneechanbara series (y'know, the game with half-naked samurai females slicing up zombies to bloody pieces) get released in Japan uncensored.

The CERO ratings board is an equilibrium.

Smellsforfree768d ago

This confuses me since I've seen so many gory Japanese movies and anime. For example, Battle Royale.

gold_drake769d ago

definitely has a point.

but .. its japan. are we really surprised?

VersusDMC769d ago

I don't know if the EA executive is going off the one close up of an arm being cut off in the demo. Maybe it's uncensored because it's the arm of a cyborg or it doesn't happen that often (didn’t see EVE dismemberment when killed in the demo) .

In the states there's a certain amount of swear words allowed to a PG13 movie before it is deemed R. So maybe it's the same in Japan for gore?

Eonjay769d ago

Yes I think you may be on to something. The violence is gory but I wouldn't call it gruesome.

Retroman769d ago

Ea Japan please make Knack 3
in the future

Eonjay769d ago (Edited 769d ago )

Does EA Japan actually make games at all? Or are they just a regional publisher?

Retroman768d ago

I'm sorry Japan Studio made Knack
