Forza Motorsport, Ratchet and Clank, Crash Bandicoot, Unreal, Call of Duty. What do all these games have in common? They're unoriginal. That's right. Each one is derivative of something else far more original than itself (remember those original games Gran Turismo, Sonic the Hedgehog, Castle Wolfenstein, and Medal of Honor?). How much does that matter if the is good and fun? Depends on who you ask, but many would say that despite their imitative nature, these games represent some of the best in their genre. That's the line of thinking that THQ and Volition are following with Saints Row.

I just started this game last night, just the player creation had me upset. You choose male but they stand like a female. Eyebrows are all effeminate, face, and verything seems to be modeled after a female with a thin male overlay.
I only played the opening and didn’t even complete that before I turned the game off. I will likely go back and try it again, but a very weird first impression.
The franchise has been complete utter garbage for almost 20 years. The first one was the only decent game of the lot of them.

Honestly Janky Generic feeling titles with Humor that tried to way too hard. People criticize Borderlands for its humor, but holy hell, still leagues better than any SR.
Somehow, Saints Row returned. Well, kind of. In a giddy post on the Saints Row subreddit, a lead on the original game in the Saints Row series announced that someone, somewhere might be interested in firing up Volition's (RIP) open-world crime games once more.

It always boggles my mind how developers like these get their hands on well known IPs and completely butcher it into a terrible mess.
My problem is I’ve played all of them but probably collectively an hour a piece for each. Never really got into them and always got them on discount. I wonder if that’s just the general consensus on this game. Because doesn’t feel like any of them are really worth it
To me Saints Row is one of those series that got a foothold in people's minds because the first game was in the right place at the right time (I'd put Dead Rising in the same category). In 2006 when the original came out, people were desperate for new games to play on the 360, and people were not nearly as burnt out on open world games as they are now. So the first one filled a void and served as a showcase for a new console that people were very excited about at the time.
I think the funniest thing to me was the Pecker sword in 3 but overall 3 was a pretty terrible game. I tell myself I want to go back and retry the remake of each version and I just don't feel like taking it to 1080p is going to change a pretty mediocre game at it's core
Get rid of the regenerating health, or only have a certain food type that regenerates health a bit. Regenerating health + food seems a bit much but just IMO.. I always found that a bit stupid.
The wait for GTA 6 is painful, but for less than $6 you can pass the time with the overhated Saints Row reboot on your Steam Deck right now.
This was free on something at some point, so I decided to check it out. It's definitely properly rated.
How is Forza Motorsport unoriginal? Because it's a racing sim? That is the only similarity it holds to GT4, buddy. It brought customization and tuning to a whole new level that no other simulator had accomplished before on a console.
It seems that you consider any game realesed in a genre to be merely a copy of it's predecessors in said genre.
You need to rethink some things.
I think nearly everyone underestimates Saint's Row. But i think Volition are onto a winner. Mark my words...
They only reviewed 4 levels of online game play, we dont know if there's more or not but where SR will really shine is it's single story game play. This is where some 80 hours or more of saved game play time will come into play, so to speak. This is where you'll rome free to play and find hidden items, rob, steel, whatever you want. I personally am buying it off the bat. I know this game will "ROCK"!!!
Hell yeah I been wanting to play that game online since then. So maybe now I will have the chance with SR coming. Sweet.
It may look and play like GTA, but GTA has always been about humor. It's an extra element of fun.
Most of the GTA imitators take themselves way too seriously. We'll have to wait and see if Saint's Row can match GTA in the fun department...
