Shacknews: Borderlands 'Zombie Island' DLC Review: More Treat Than Trick

"While everyone is starting to pull out the Christmas decorations and hang up the lights, developer Gearbox has just doled out a Halloween-themed expansion for the console editions of Borderlands. And though the timing is a bit odd, I certainly don't mind.

Quite simply, if you enjoyed Borderlands before, you should probably check out "The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned." The $10 download brings new areas, enemies and missions to the shooter-RPG, providing a fresh excuse to grind more hours away."

Submit a near-blank story.

Edit it in your user space.

I did this a few hours ago with the Steam sales story - I'm surprised no one picked up on it then, and that it's been broken so long.

Thanks man, it works.. I appreciate that ;)

How come no one is saying:

"This should have shipped with the game."
or
"This is BS, just trying to make more money."

I think if this game was made by certain companies, it would get the same treatment as some other titles I have seen get bashed for releasing DLC weeks after its release.

Hypocrisy at its finest.

moparful995892d ago

I think the main reason is because this game is ginormous. I've got about 50 or so hours invested and im only a lvl 33 and Im about 2/3 of the way through the main story.. Thats alot of value for the money so releasing a dlc that adds 5 or so hours onto this game is no big deal... If I wasnt so broke right now I would have picked this up by now...

chrisulloa5892d ago

You spent 50 hours to get to level 33? It took me about 15-20 hours to get to level 47. I'm only missing 3 achievements.

iceman29295892d ago

moparful99 is right. not only that, i bet they couldnt fit anymore stuff on the dvd anyways! the size of the game is hugeeee!

Bnet3435892d ago

There's no doubt in my mind that this was kept off the disc on purpose to make money via DLC. That is why I won't be buying it.

hmmmm5892d ago

@ icemann
I doubt they couldn't fit anymore on the dvd since when installed to the 360's hdd it says it only takes up a bit more than 3gb.

But still great game and the expansion was fun, can't wait for the next one!

PirateThom5892d ago

Same reason people aren't complaining about the Dragon Age DLC?

People are willing to turn a blind eye to early DLC when the game is huge and there's a lot of gameplay in the game as it is. What people do not like is when they're basically paying for what should have been there on the disc when the game is short.

hmmmm5892d ago

@kigmal
I doubt this was just kept off the disk deliberately. It has entire new environments(which are pretty massive) and enemies. Not to mention it is not related to the main story in anyway so i can't see how they could have fit it in. You should try it out cos it is pretty fun, and remember, just because it was announced before release doesn't mean it was finished before release.

Great piece of DLC, I would recommend it for anyone that enjoyed the game.

ever since XIII came out I really loved the cell shaded artstyle in games. I probably wouldn't have tried it if it didn't have such a style like that

Despite Borderlands Movie Flop, Series Saw Boost in Sales; Take-Two to Be Selective on Licensing IPs

Take-Two admits the Borderlands movie was disappointing, though it still contributed to the game catalog's sales.

"we don’t really need to break out the contribution from the film because while it was economically positive"

Come on, there was nothing positive about it, it literally bled money...not really economically.

Daeloki431d ago

No there was not. The same way there was no Dragon Ball live action movie, nor an Avatar the Last Airbender live action movie :)

Polish a turd to make a what?!

DefenderOfDoom2432d ago (Edited 432d ago )

So the movie cost 155 million to produce and another 30 million dollars to promote . Borderlands movie brought in around 31 million worldwide . So basically, the Borderlands movie was a 154 million commercial for Borderlands video game franchise.
