Wii: Here To Stay?

Despite a lack of horsepower the Wii is taking charge this generation! But how long will it last?

The Nintendo Wii has come under a lot of fire in the past few days from different analyst and news organizations predicting that the console doesn't have any staying power and some going as far to say that the Wii will begin to fade by the end of this year. The first reason some believe the Wii will fail is the system is the weakest of all the consoles and that as time goes on this difference will become even more obvious.

The second reason is that eventually the novelty of the Wii remote will wear off, or not be used properly by third parties at all and end up hurting the system. Finally some believe that if indeed the Wii is successful it could destroy the industry since third party software can not compete with Nintendo's first party titles. As the Wii quickly approaches the install base of the Xbox 360 (only 2 million more to go) the Wii is showing no signs of slowing down.

Are there really no wii fans on this site?

anthonsh6926d ago

Sorry, I was too busy playing Mortal Kombat.

Clinton5146926d ago

I just can't get into it. No matter how people cry about how "fun" it is...it really isn't that "fun" to me.

That being said, I'm waiting for more games for it. For now, nothing that appeals to me as a gamer in need of substance.

You're upset over my opinion? Shame. Live with it.

ITR6926d ago

It's only coming under fire because it's selling so well.

sonarus6926d ago

I don't think its here to stay. The game has really short play time. If you play for too long you get elbow pains and then all that controller movement gets old after a while

ITR6926d ago

Elbow pain?

You need to keep playing and work out your soreness.

You get blisters from playing too much as well..but does that stop folks from playing the PS2? Nope.

If you like to game you'll just keep on playing.

anthonsh6926d ago

you should either

A) Calm down
B) Get that checked out.

but the wii doesn't get much play i even rented Mario Party 8 from gamefly and got it on Saturday and i played for a few hours and haven't touched it since. I honestly don't think its gonna be a big thing for to much longer. I know several people that own one and have seen many articles where people that actually own it are bored with it. Once that gets out it will slow down. I'm actually on the fence on trading my wii and 360 in for the 360 Elite............

anthonsh6926d ago

This is the "boring" time of year. Go get some sun, there are like 25 great games due out in the fall.

ITR6926d ago

It's very boring this time of the yr.

Time to hit the beach.

drtysouf216926d ago

Thats true. Fall needs to hurry up though! Summer is to hot and Transformers is really the only summer movie i really want to see.

Crazy to think the WII is to the Switch 2, as the NES was to the WII back then. 20 Year difference.

My wife asks me to bust it out (heh) everyone once in a while to play bowling and tennis with the kids. There was a ton of slop on it but some good stuff as well.

Wii was great but boy howdy did it cause Microsoft to go on a dark walk with the Kinect and the disastrous XBox One launch that they arguably never recovered from.

Not nostalgic for me.. I was there.. anyone who wasnt a little kid realized it was a gamecube with shit tacked onto it, it was the "joke" system and was well below even the switch in terms of comparing it to the latest machines at the time. The machine was well loved by young people and "casual gamers" who now remember it 20 years on, or in most cases more of its sales came in the 15-20 years ago range not right at launch- but again its not nostalgic for people who were "gamers" then really, just for those who ended up with one in their house, the games , graphics, interface and online features were archaic already in 2006.

Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire (1996) Still Feels Like Peak 90s Star Wars

This game along with Rogue Squadron got me into to Star Wars. The release of special edition VHS Star Wars collection was perfectly times on top of all that. 😆

Redgrave58d ago

Because it is.

Please re-release this.

SimpleSlave58d ago (Edited 58d ago )

But it wasn't. Although I do agree that some of the tie-in media, like the novels and comics, were pretty good.

Still, games like Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, Rogue Squadron, and the space sims were peak 90s Star Wars. Shadows fell flat because of the abysmal controls and unimaginative levels. And if you wanted to really experience the seedy side of the universe, Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 was peak, and it wasn't even close.

Regardless, and much to my dismay, we got the better version thanks to Ubislop in Outlaws, which is what Shadows should've been, albeit at a smaller scale.

As a kid me and my cousins loved this game . I have great memories with this one and the Star Wars pod racer game .
