Softkinetic and Optrima gesture at MS

New Belgian joint-venture launches latest 3D imaging and gesture-recognition technology - competition brewing for Microsoft's Project Natal?

The leading specialists in 3D recognition software at Softkinetic have partered with inventors of a patented 3D sensing tech at Optrima , with the lofty claim that they are now able to offer the most complete 3D depth-sensing imaging and gesture-recognition technology available.

Somehow, I don't see Microsoft quaking in its boots here!

darkmurder6073d ago

Yeah I don't think anyone realised there was more than one company doing this when Microsoft bought 3DV and when a new one comes up they're doomed.

IdleLeeSiuLung6073d ago

I think on the surface they all look the same, but in reality under the hood I'm sure there are major differences on how the software can pick up your gestures.

Most people would say, Mac OSX, Windows Vista and Linux are all the same. After all, they are there to do pretty much the same thing, but underneath they are very differently designed and very much behaves so.

the wand is a extra for percision. your such a stupid fanboy you cant even see this is a slap in the face at Ms,you complete tard. This means that wii and sony can implement a product on their system that is superior to natal. its not sony good bye it MS, can you imagine the wii with a better version of natal, Ms casual market will be crushed. Basically sony is the only one that stands to comepte with the wii now for that causal audience. get your head out of your arse if this hit wii the same time as natal hit 360 Ms might hang it up.

They will just buy the company like a spoiled brat.

oohWii6073d ago

Sony will get wind of this, buy or partner with this company to copy the Natal like technology. (As they seem to be doing with everything else.) After which, the PS3 Fanboys that have been hating on Natal will suddenly feel that the technology is awesome.

It's easy to judge future behavior through past behavior.

ChozenWoan6073d ago (Edited 6073d ago )

Actually, Ninty is more likely to buy this tech as they are the only major console developer who doesn't have a visual gesture recognition system.

As for Sony, they've had EyeToy for years. They also had Natal tech... which they "passed on" to develop a better system. Because pulling the trigger on a PSSphere in a FPS feels more natural than just pointing your hand and pulling back your finger in mid air.

Until Natal shows true 1:1 in realtime lag free, I'll pass on it just like Sony did.

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

And then MK1 killed it again.
