iPhone 3GS versus Motorola Droid

Pocket Gamer:

You can tell that Motorola's Droid smartphone has just been released Stateside because the internet has been flooded with the now obligatory "iPhone Killer" comments that seem to surround any new mobile phone launch these days.

Apple's ubiquitous device has given the mobile phone market's old guard something to think about, and many manufacturers - Motorola, Sony Ericsson and Samsung, to name but three - have flocked to Google's banner, or more specifically its much-hyped Android operating system.

Motorola's Droid is possibly the most high-profile Android device yet, with more dollars than you could possibly dream of being expended to ensure that everyone in the US is fully aware of its presence.

But does the Droid have what it takes to bring down the incumbent iPhone 3GS or does it simply join the rapidly-increasing ranks of also-rans?

There's only one way to find out: FIGHT!

a Android device. Simply for the freedom to move on to other hardware in the future that runs Android and bring my apps with me. I'm not tied in to only Apple hardware specs.

Seeing as I already have one... and am downloading the new, MASSIVE, open world RPG Ravensword: The Fallen King as I type this message.

I'm no Mac snob by any means, but I simply have not seen a wider range of games and apps than the iPhone anywhere.

Oh, and Call of Duty: World at War: ZOMBIES is a hoot here in the office over the wifi.

android phones are looking more and more appealing to me now, but alas there are none that i know of on sprint... so i went with the palm pre, and for the most part i am pleased with it- i have two minor complaints with it: for one the app store is a little anemic, and it tends to bog down when you have a few apps running at once.

personally though i think the droid is one fugly phone, if i went android it wouldnt be the droid.... and the iphone cant multitask so that eliminates the iphone for me.

edit: just looked it up and there are a few android phones for sprint.

wow. motorola's finally back in the game. they disappeared after the razor phenomenon. and here they come back!

sometimes i wish AT&T had better smartphones than the iPhone. I'm just not into the HTC stuff. sorry everyone..

freediro6061d ago

that what i am waiting for to come out on the Big Red, its basically Verizon's version of the HTC Hero with the 1ghz snapdragon processor. can't wait!

I have the Droid, and can honestly say there's nothing out there as cool as this, the things you can do with it are amazing, makes the iphone look like a Wii...LOL.

LeonSKennedy4Life6061d ago

It definitely doesn't.

I checked them both out before I bought...and I got the iPhone.

Kaneda6061d ago

How many apps you can have in the droid? 6 apps? can you do more than 6?

dericb116061d ago

Iphone guys always bring up Apps. Truth is there is a such thing as to many. I mean you honest can not store all of them on the Iphone. Hell most of them are junk apps. Comcast Apps comes to mind.

When he said the Droid makes the Iphone look like a Wii he means both phone hardware/OS versus each other. Even the Article said the Droid wins. Which means the Droid is a better phone without the need of Apps as the Iphone relies heavily of them and most you will never see because the App store and set up terribly.

The 3GS is hands down the better phone no questions ask. The G1 left a bad taste in my mouth and my previous phone the HTC Touch HD was just garbage. Almost no good apps that run in its native res and WinMo has a very limited game selection. Lets not forget WinMo hasn't really progressed since WM2003. As an MS fanboy I still when out and bought me a an iPhone because I can't deny its superiority and I've been through many high end phones already.

Kaneda6060d ago

it said iphone remain undefeated..

yes, I can store all the apps I have downloaded on my iphone, you can delete junk apps. I think what's make the iphone so great is all the apps.

But to be able to store only 6 apps I think it is a downsize for the Droid. I think the voice GPS is great on the Droid, I think that is really cool feature.

xjoshbx6060d ago

This is a never ending argument. iPhone fanboys will always think they have the upper hand. And android has far more apps than 6! it's over 10,000 already and the market is fairly new. Yesterday on my way home from work by the time i got home 28 new apps were published to the app side of the market in that small span of time.

#1 open source and non moderated market.

#2 multi-threaded OS. Lets see the iPhone pull this off.

I wouldn't give it to much time before the android market starts catching up fast. I'm already finding almost all the apps i used on the iPhone on the android market.

Hands down the droid is on a far better platform that the iphone. You guys enjoy your limited/moderated iPhones. As android ages it's going to quickly surpass anything apple can offer... Thank you Open Source.

xjoshbx6060d ago

You obviously don't know anything about the droid to talk it down....

Only able to store 6 apps? default setup is 16gb with a $hit load of apps on the market already with more and more everyday. The iPhone still does media a bit better, but thats about all I can see it holding onto for long.

People who don't know anything about phones = iPhone!

People who actually know something about phones and want the absolute most bang for their buck = Android.

Probably down to the high cost of gaming. Controllers and racing wheels can cost as much as consoles.

Reaper22_69d ago

This is why there will always be competition in gaming. The possibilities to make huge profits is just too enticing.

Pokémon Go Championship Winner Title Revoked for ‘Unsportsmanlike Conduct’

The winner of the Pokémon Go Championship grand finals in Orlando was stripped of their title, allegedly for 'unsportsmanlike conduct' during their victory celebration. The celebration involved the winner removing their headset, standing up, and pumping their fists before shaking hands with their opponent. Many believe the ruling was excessive and that winner's victory celebration was tame compared to celebrations by winners in other competitive games.

There are people that get offended seeing others just enjoying a moment, or enjoying a hobby, or just having fun.

SethNW75d ago

Can someone explain to me what is so problematic with this? I watched video multiple times and all I see dude having bit of celebration. None of his actions felt aggressive or seem like they symbolize anything... Like winning sure deserves bit of celebration like that. I mean who wants to live in the world where you aren't allowed to be excited or have bit of burst of happiness when you win? Like was he supposed to act like emotionless robot? He should be allowed to have bit of his victory "hell yeah" moment, even if it is before shaking hands with opponent. Like it is not like he didn't shake hands or whatnot. And it is not like he is like some super serious government official to have to stick to protocol to a letter. This whole thing is just ridiculous.
