The better the 360 does, the better it is for PS3 owners. It's called COM-PE-TI-TION

The more features M$ puts on Live, the more pressure Sony will feel to give it to us for free. Do you honestly believe Sony would have even considered releasing Facebook integration this soon(right on the same day as the release of the 360 FB offering) if it wasn't because M$ announced it first?

Here's a better question: If the 360 didn't exist, do you believe Sony would have felt the pressure ta cut the initial PS3 price tag THIS FAST? Logic and reason my friend...logic and reason. I admit, the 360 has the WORST failiure rate in the history of gaming, but if it wasn't for this so-called "RROD'ed console" the PS3 would still be 400 bucks and we'd have about half of the PSN features we have now.

There will not be an up-tick in Sony sales due to this banning. Sony people buy the PS3 because it's the console they have been wanting and could care less about the 360 and those who modded their Xbox will run back to the 360 like a dog back to his own vomit. If these guys were smart they would buy the PS3 and play great games but they were modders of the 360 community and as for smart people, modders are not.

Well, in all fairness, all the games that Sony brought out this year have been in development since 2008 or earlier. It's not like they decided this year to put all those resources into those games, finished them, and brought them out. The decisions to create those titles and put funding and resources into them happened back when the 360 was being very competitive in terms of its own exclusives. And the 360 was also very competitive this year in terms of sales (read: selling more than the PS3) until the PS3 slim came out, and since the slim came out, they've done so many SKU shifts, rebates and other special offers that the 360 has still kept up competitively with the PS3 slim (except in Japan).

No doubt theirs going to be a boost in sales, but when I say a boost: Maybe a blip of those sales will make up the banned 360s. The rest of the November sales will be holiday shoppers.

Another reason to throw into the mix is that modders get games for free, they hack/steal whatever, but they get them for free. Play for free. Its kind of hard to go back to buying 60 dollar games, paying an additional $50 for Live to enjoy something you were getting for nothing. Also, wouldn't the banned 360s still be able to play offline?

That mindset sticks with a person towards that item (this case the 360) and it'll be an easier transition to completely get a new console (this case the PS3) to get a completely different experience.

All in all, we might just see much of a sales blip on the 360 AND the PS3.

Yeah, but the sale, however many it will be, will be a plus for Sony; While developers will be questioning whether 360's sales are old modded console owners who will just re-mod! It can't even be counted as installed base growth.(not that MS has a problem with counting them anyways and proclaiming winning this generation)

Many on this site admit to having a second Arcade 360 to protect teh precious Elite or substitute when one goes away for RROD repair. That is not installed base growth.

I paid to have my PS2 DRE fixed so as I wouldn't have to wait for Sony to fix it for free. Got that back and started cleaning the vents regularly; No more DRE for 6 years! I wouldn't want to wait weeks for a 360 either!(and I wasn't even much of a gamer back then)

Because if they're going to spend money on a new system, might as well spend that money on a system you don't have yet.

You can still play on a banned 360, just can't play on Live, so if you're banned you can get a PS3 for all your online games (and play online for free) and still pirate single player games on 360.

And anyone here who is active at all in the modding community will know that a lot of the people getting banned are saying they are planning on getting PS3's instead. As of now, if they go and buy another 360 it will most likely get banned too since Microsoft can now detect the firmwares somehow, and a lot of these modders are on their 3rd or 4th 360s, so its just time to give up trying to play pirated games on Live and go play multiplayer games on Ps3 instead.

I'm not even part of the modding community and that was the first thing I thought! Seems like common sense to me. Notice how your thread ends after you; That is how you know your comment is unarguable.

My friend got his 360 first, then got a PS3 for Warhawk. Now he plays online on PS3 for free and plays bootleg games on his modded 360 because he doesn't want to pay for Live!

I don't see iot at all. Most people in this situation, the one's I've spoken to anyway, are using the modded por chipped 360 to play their 360 games that they don't play on Live , already own a PS3(in nearly every case among those I know)and are going to, or have, pick up a used 360 which they'll then mod or chip and when they do they'll sell the already chipped, but sussed, 360. No point them shelling out for a new anything in the cases I've come across-all they want is anopther 360 to do what the last one did before they hot caught and by buying used and cheap they can do it easily under the [price of even a new Arcade! They're voiding the warranty anyway which tules out a new one, they'll get a bit for their old, vut banned, console and could even pick up a dirt cheap RROD'd console or two if they know a fix or two(which they probably do)-being honest it's alos, again probably, the same thing they did the last time MS cottoned on ti the ways people were modding their 360s.

Whatever, most aren't buying anythinbg new let alone a PS3 which they'll most likely already own if they want one. These guys tend to actually game a bit in my experience(which is why many do it as well-to play foreign releases ealier in the EU anyway)which is what makes the costs saved by piracy worthwhile to some of them-but they love games(clearly, or they wouldn't steal downoalds of them, would they?)so they will almost all have a PS3 by now I would have thought. They aren't likely to be 360 fanboys either so there's little reason not to have a PS3-anmd you never know they may crack that well enough for mainstream piracy at any moment. Whatever, but getting a console ban NEVER makes m,any people change over like this suggests and others have too-it's silly and pays no attention to the mindsets of the pirates or those annoyed at being caught out or the fact that they like pirating games on the 360!

Why do you assume it's a one time ban? How do they know it won't happen again next week? Better to not pay for Live, play the same games on PSN for free, then bootleg all the single player 360 games. It is the only way you would actually receive something "new" for your purchase, while maintaining something of the old!

It all comes down to how much you like playing Halo online!

Word like banned only scare off people who are getting ready to mod their console and hear what happens if they get caught.

Other than that, people are going to do what they want to do. Why would I be discouraged from buying a 360 if I hear that I will get banded from XBL if I modify it so that I can play pirated games. (If I am an honest person.)

Between a flood of banned consoles, the possibilities of other used 360's RRod along with new units, the brand's name is only going to be damaged. If new console owners aren't wholly scared away they'll get a Wii or PS3 before a 360.

Then you have the PS3's value as a BR player and other media functions.

The one where my friend got DRE on his PS3 and went out and got an XBOX, then ended up picking up another PS2 because he had disk loading problems on the XBOX and modded his XBOX with 160 gig harddrive!(eliminating the disk loading problem)

It doesn't matter if a gamer won't mod their system or not, a company having to do this makes them look bad. Its a good thing that news like this doesn't hit store isles. If it did then no one would buy a 360 to begin with, especially with all its technical problems.

I totally see where you are coming from. I work in a correctional facility, and we chat with the inmates all the time. Most of them hate the cops, but very few of them are pissed at they people that got them arrested.

Although there are some of the sicker ones that feel you should allow them to take your stuff, and are mad at the people that had them arrested. But I too think these people are stupid for thinking that way. I mean how can you hit a person in the head with a bat, take their money and have the nerve to be mad at them for picking you out in a lineup. (Metaphor)

they operate just about inside the law most of the time with a history of court cases for illegal marketing and other scams, they are a monster who would do anything they could get away with in order to grow bigger or earn more. They don't have a moral code themselves. We are talking about the epitomy of ugly corporate practice not comparable in any way to innocent people getting harmed or robbed in thier homes. It was a metaphor, pull the metaphor from the comment and use your sub-highschool education to try and understand the point. The comment is based on human behavior not that of a corporation trying to make money.

It's amazing how people can take things in the literal sense when it comes to Microsoft and somehow allow their moral standards to be lowered based on who the victim is, rather than looking the point that piracy should be punished.

Anyone modding their console so that they don't have to pay for games should be banned. MS should have also given their names to the authorities. So while they are complaining about being banned, they have totally missed the point, for they could be standing in some court room waiting to see how much they will be paying out in damages and penalties. But let me guess, if that had happened, MS we be being a bully right?

The reason game prices are so high today is to compensate for theft and other related BS. Wake up and smell the coffee.

Yeah I understood your piont. I should have put @ ice cold as i skimmed over your post albeit with a nod of respect to your proffesion. We don't have 'high school' here in uk, but but my education is not relavent. Perhapes there is some connection between the attitude of some of your clients and the assumed attitude of xbox 360 pirates/modders. Personally , I do have a different moral outlook depending on who the vicitim is, definitely. M$ are clearly within thier rights to ban modded x boxs and you have a good piont about the offenders being lucky that is the only consequence for them. I don't believe however that current levels of piracy are affecting game prices. Twice as many MW2 as GTAIV were sold in uk on day one of release earning infinity ward 47 million on day one sales in uk alone, and yet MW2 is selling for about £5 more in the shops and IW would like to charge more. So I'm not buying that argument either.

It makes sense to me because people are screwed up. That is how people think, and if you don't like it I really don't know what else to tell you. Some people will take your stuff just because its valuable to YOU and not them at all. Your making this way to complicated and giving a lot of law breakers a mentality they truly don't have. They aren't referring to themselves as a "dumb ass" when they perform these crimes.

Give it a rest, he has his opinion, and you have yours; both of which have merit. People see things differently depending on where they are from. I have seen people what get pissed at the person that turned them in and I have see people that get wise after the arrest and feel that they should have not done it anyway and hold no grudge against their acuser.

But you witness protection analogy was going way to overboard. Typically WPP is reserved to cases when the criminal is well organized and has a far reach, not the guy that shot your dog.

because people who want a modded 360, will get one. There will always be newer fimware for pirats to get their hands on....as the 360 is easy to hack. As of now, the PS3 can't be hacked...so, cheap pirates will not buy a system they can't free games from. Sure...sony will get a few..but as long as 360 can be cracked, and there are cheap 360's to buy from places like Craigslist, people will continue to steal.

you want us to learn from a company that allowed 600,000 to 1 million civilians mod the system and not do anything about it till now?why didn't they do it when it reached in the hundreds and catch it earlier?that's the logic of nitwits.how can you even try to say they deserve anyones respect.yeah they did what they were supposed to,but why oh why now are they JUST doing what they were supposed to do way way waaaaaaaaaay earlier? It is still not known exactly how they are detecting the modded boxes. It is possible that this is a new meathod of detecting firmware but nothing is confirmed yet. It could have taken so long because the detection process may be fairly new.

Or.. There are a couple reasons I can think of that they waited till now to ban so many consoles. First is the timing, Right before the release of one of the most wanted games MW2 and just before Black Friday and start of holliday shopping season.

Second.. It is possible they have been slowly building up a list of moded consoles. If they banned consoles as they found them, it would be a couple here and there now and then, No one would pay much attention. But if they wait and build up a huge list, then ban a crap load of people at once.. This gets peoples attention! and is alot more scary than a ban here and there, if all your buddies with moded consoles get banned all at once, guys that have been careful and been online for some time.. Then you may think twice before moding your system, The odds of your system being banned seems much higher and maybe you feel the risk is just too high to risk it. Thats exactly what MS wants you to think about.

So a site should just leave it up to its fans to submit something on N4G. I could guarantee you that N4G wouldn't be as popular as it is now if it was solely left to the fans to submit. Yeah you will get flamebait from sites trying to get attention, but honestly no one is forcing you to read it in the first place. If you think this article is one of them, check out the comments its getting. More than a couple of people said that they know someone who got banned and that banned person is either going to buy a PS3 or already got one.

I have not modified my xbox but am on my 3rd system due to failures. I was planning on dropping xbox when this one dies and picking up a PS3. But the 360's are getting so dang cheep I might pick up another anyway, but still going to pick up a PS3. I love games not consoles, and both systems have games I like and hate. But I agree that PS3 is a much more sturdy system, My sister has had one since they came out, her very young kids abuse the hell out of it and it is still going strong. I am on my 3rd xbox 360 in the same amount of time and I baby the hell out of them. But there is one thing I do hate about the PS3..the controllers, I just do not like the cheap feel of the sony controllers, If I get a ps3 I will probably take one of the controllers apart and try putting the guts into a 360 controller.

maybe you have a point gameover but I went through 2 like I have said in other posts and maybe you have a high tolerance for a mediocre system but I will never put up with such crap again.you can also say that they could have done this ban right from the outset and say "uh uh no you don't" to the ones starting to do it and prove their point that way.it can go both ways you see.But as for the controller,rocketfish came out to what it seems like a cool controller.resembles the 360 one a little.maybe you should check it out...
