the truth is that sony has made microsoft sweat since announcing ps3.

microsoft launched first and early to try and get a lead on ps3.and the result was a failure so high,that it's beyond blowing into a cartidge.not only that,but because of ps3's reliability,it has forced microsoft to rework the unit so may times just to try to keep their early lead.

but there is more...microsoft launches a unit that wasn't future proof.no hdmi.not just for the highest resolution standard,but for future tech like 3D movies and games that require hdmi and 1080p support.so they abandoned the component owners to follow sony's lead.

microsoft,trying to counter bluray,launches hd-dvd early and not built in.the result was a higher priced media platform that destroyed the cheaper one to the point that it hit fire sale prices.the irony is that toshiba,the makers of the 360 add-on,is making bluray players.

microsoft creates a camera for the 360.but didn't think it through(are you seeing a pattern here of rushing out the gate?)the result is a peripheral that is not even in pseye's league.and has made microsoft go and try to make another camera to fix the problem.

microsoft launches xbl for 360.and has tried over and over to stay ahead of a company that owns a LARGE CATALOG of movies,music and games.any move microsoft makes is just to keep 360 relevant.but it doesn't end there..the company can't even make a game to keep up with what sony did at launch.which is 20vs20 multiplayer.we won't even comment on 128vs128.that would be overkill...no wait..i just did.

should i even mention games?microsoft stated 360 was more powerful.but sony took their time making engine with their 20+ dev houses(where sony didn't close not one during the worst recession for modern time)and is now destroying microsoft with better looking and highly rated games.

Simply fact playstation is runin around copyin xbox live features plus had to result in a host of exclusives comming out because microsoft kept braking partnerships even the psn is one up with home they are doing things that are a to fight off the xbox loads of exclusives or b just copying the xbox and except for live what have the brought to use but blu ray disk for gaming

the article actually makes a lot of sense. the ps3 is always trying to better the 360 i.e. ms has sony sweating but thats actually a good thing for ps3 owners since sony are forced to try to outdo live in order to compete such as offering us a great online service thats free, pumping out loads of new exclusives, reducing the price of the console.

the author is making a good point, if the 360 wasn't doing so well etc etc the sony prob wouldn't have felt the need to keep psn free, wouldn't have brought out the new games (cus they would still have had all the exclusives, but obv they still do have them on the platform) and i imagine the price would prob have stayed higher for longer

Point 2) 360 is NOT why PS3 is slimmed early. PS3 was slimmed to save up on costs that PS3 PHAT was taking up to make. Its idiotic to assume it was JUST because of competition.

Point 4) Wrong. Sony release new IP's because thats what they do:

they are an innovative, creative company, and even if 360 weren't stealing their "exclusives

(FF and MGS were never exclusive since many variations were released on Nintendo and MS consoles before)

you present a lot of reasons microsoft "Had" sony sweating.

"had" is past tense

presently. the ps3 "has" a competitive price point (which most deem it a better value over the competition)
the ps3 "has" a better line up than the competition
and the ps3 is neck and neck with the 360 as far as online goes. (this is debatable)

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
