When did consoles turn into something so disposable? At what point did consoles start becoming such a big decision on when and what to buy? PS3 40 Gig, 60 Gig, 20 Gig, huh? Xbox 360 Arcade, Pro, Elite what? Nintendo DS, DS Lite, DSi, DSi XL? Gamers should be up in arms over this.

Square Enix launches Final Fantasy X 25th anniversary site, revealing new Nomura art, books, music releases, and merchandise.
Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.
They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

LucasArts gave Jango Fett his own game in 2002, and it pulled Star Wars into a much dirtier, rougher, and more interesting corner of the galaxy.

The Wii is now a retro console. Let’s get nostalgic about an often maligned system.
Crazy to think the WII is to the Switch 2, as the NES was to the WII back then. 20 Year difference.
My wife asks me to bust it out (heh) everyone once in a while to play bowling and tennis with the kids. There was a ton of slop on it but some good stuff as well.
Wii was great but boy howdy did it cause Microsoft to go on a dark walk with the Kinect and the disastrous XBox One launch that they arguably never recovered from.
Not nostalgic for me.. I was there.. anyone who wasnt a little kid realized it was a gamecube with shit tacked onto it, it was the "joke" system and was well below even the switch in terms of comparing it to the latest machines at the time. The machine was well loved by young people and "casual gamers" who now remember it 20 years on, or in most cases more of its sales came in the 15-20 years ago range not right at launch- but again its not nostalgic for people who were "gamers" then really, just for those who ended up with one in their house, the games , graphics, interface and online features were archaic already in 2006.
WHy should PS3 owners be up in arms? HDD upgrades are cheap - $68 for a 500GB non proprietary drive and a failure rate that is far below industry standard. Also the PS3 came wih all the next gen features from built in HDD, to the ONLY next gen disk format, and internal wireless.
What exactly is this guy b1tching about? Is choice a bad thing now? Are manufacturers not allowed to evlove their products? Despite the variations they all essentially do the same thing, so no one is really being left out.
You would not see a price reduction.
Sony started this with PS1 and PS2 and both had a very long life cycle
PS3 will likely follow suit.
Nintendo typically does not have a long life cycle but innovates and is a risk taker.
Microsoft took risk by releasing a shoddy console ahead of technical readiness and paid $3bn and still is with RROD!!
Apple does the same thing with iPods and iPhones.
Most of these redesignes fixed alot of problems with the orginal consoles like the NES. But compnies also redesign to add missing features like the 360 with out HDMI. Redesigns also help sell a console making them look more appealing to the consumer. Redesigning a console also adds new ideas to an existing product hence the PSP GO. We are a throw away society if something comes out with a new bell or whistle we gotta have it and companies know that. Also when a console does a redesign the price to manufacture that console is cheap so why not go out with a bang if I could I would get my hands on the redesign SNES and NES I thought they looked cool. Just be lucky a console is not like a computer by th time you pick up the computer at Best Buy take it home out of the box hook it up a month later there is a new computer thats better making yours obselete.
