Well first off I would like to say that if the X-Engine works out for them then that is a good thing for MS. This is coming from a Sony fan.

However, MS would have to buy more studios to fill the void left by the ones they got rid of. That and they would have to shell out more money just to get 3rd party developers to make an exclusive because the PS3 is gaining ground in systems sold. If the 360 comes out with a game that matches U2 on all fronts then more than likely it will be made by a 3rd party. I honestly don't think that will happen because if the system is so easy to program for, and it has a year head start, why hasn't a game came out for the 360 that has matched KZ2 or U2??

Lastly, I don't believe that Microsoft has enough creativity to match PS3 exclusives. What makes them so impressive is the story, characters, and the overall presentation. Every exclusive I have played have rivaled a movie when it comes to how the game was produced. The production value is something that most of us seem to overlook. The story is just as important as the graphics and game play. That is why FF7 doesn't necessarily need to be remade.

You can give a painter the best equipment out there but it means nothing without imagination.

MS don't need many first party studios...Sony have about 20 of them and they get no profit for Sony now...because they make games with low sales. Insomniac is looking to lost exclusivity...and after X-engine will be showen many other devs will speck open about that too. X-engine and xbox brand, next xbox are the future for earning money.

When X-engine will be show it is all over for PS3. Sony will be forced to bring Ps4 as quickly as they can...but xbox 720 and wii2 again will be sooner...

Here is why I disagree! Any bigger engine will scientifically require more memory to run. You will only be limited so much only having a 8 GIG DVD ROM. You can scream X-Engine all day but then I can scream the Z engine all night. Lastly, game designers today and tomorrow is more focused on parallel processing VS single core. That means, having 6-8 processors running simultaneously........... The 360 is old hardware that is pass its time. 360 should focus on just creating good games. You don't necessarily need more graphics to make a good game! God Of War & Shadow Of Colossus are games that came out LATE in the PS2 cycle that were just great games! 360 should focus on that. But in reality 360 is going to focus on the Wii market.

In my opinion, is just putting lipstick on a pig. no matter if the lipstick look good, It's still a pig. You can't get around that OLD 8 GIG DVD Drive and 3 core processor. The only way Microsoft is going to survive the next 2 1/2 years is to cut the price and basically give the system away for free.

By the time they even reach KZ2's level of graphics (another 2 years or most likely never) the PS3 will be light years ahead of the 360 and eventually the 360 devs will give up before even reaching KZ2's graphics.

The future of gaming is all about multi core processing in which you let several SPU's do handle everything form the physics all the way down to the graphics and that's something the 360 can't and will never do because of it's out dated 2005 hardware.

The 3 cored processor in the 360 is nothing compared to the 7 SPU's on the PS3's Cell Processor, the more efficiently you use each SPU on the PS3 the better the game becomes and so far no one's done that. What Naughty Dog meant by using the PS3's full potential as clarified by ND's Even Whells was that they used every SPU in the PS3 but they have NOT maxed out the 7 SPU's so there's tons of space for improvements in the near future.

Listen everyone........ Here is why BLU-RAY makes the PS3 the clear winner for the rest of the console life cycle. It's purely because newer bigger game engines require more memory. Period! As newer games comes out and newer game engines are developed they will require more memory off of the disk...........Killzone 2 engine is a HUGE engine. You have to have Blu-Ray! Otherwise you will be forced to compressing the game down to a size that wouldn't make the game for what its intended for. Game developers cannot afford to make games on 2-3 separate disk unless it is funded by Microsoft. FF13 was funded by Microsoft and that is why you will see it on 3 different disk and I bet-ya the game textures won't look as polished as PS3's.

The developers are running into a corner now where either they MUST bring their A game (Meaning PS3 exclusives or CELL leaded) or bring out mediocre games that will undersell and put their company in the red. Alot of companies are taking notice and are unhappy of PS3 exclusives outselling and out ranking multiplats. NEVER IN THE HISTORY of gaming has a first party studio took OVER the gaming crown. SONY has done it. And developers are not happy. In 2010 your going to see a ton of PS3 exclusives hitting the console.

Xbox developers dont fully utilise the xbox on purpose, which is why it lags so much behind.

The X-engine are a set of tools made by microsoft.
Those tools are made specifically for the 360 just like sony has made the edge tools. Its a way for devs to make games with.

Microsoft send out this E3 the 1gb ram SDK for devs.
This is interesting because the SDK first only had 512mb as much as the 360 has. But devs needed to run debug programs on it and those took in from as low as 30mb of ram to as high as 100mb of ram.
And with the new kits they can now make use of all they 512 mb of ram for the game and use the other half for running debug programs and other stuff to monitor the game, cpu and gpu usages.

The X-engine, huh. So that's the Great White Hype. The one and only engine that can do it. As if Guerilla's engine isn't going to improve as well as all Sony engines. See here are the keys - the Cell was designed with HD in mind and Bluray holds the HD. I don't think graphics have been the problem. What the 360 hasn't done is release 3 or 4 disc games enough. Killzone 2 looks great, but a big part of why is because of the bluray. The PS3 is and always was meant to provide HD. The 360 was simply out to beat Sony to market and wasn't really trying to embrace HD. The 360 didn't even release with HDMI. It uses DVD discs (I mean seriously, HD-DVD discs were available and how much more obvious can you get). The only thing MS seems to have done right is pick the good graphics, but just because technically they have the newer shaders, it doesn't translate to the real world without everything else they went half ass on.

Not even going to watch the video because the guy absolutely annoys me. I will say that 2009 was pretty lean for me as far as the 360 is concerned. Most of my gaming dollars went into my PS3. Hopefully 2010 is better and there's more than a title or two worth picking up on the 360.

the xbox 360 is falling behind is dvd9. this isnt a fanboy comment so please bear with me for a moment.

with such small amount of space compared to a pc or bluray, you have to compress the images to fit on the disc, and no matter how great the compression is, you will always lose quality on it, take a raw image file compared to a jpeg, raw is a purely uncompressed file with amazing colours and sharpness yet at the same time the picture is anywhere from 30 megs upwards, when you compress it down to jpeg you lose a huge amount of quality yet the file is now at a much more sane 100kb, its the same way with games, textures have to be compressed and lose the valuable quality feel of it

If MS or one of it's exclusive studios can produce an engine that can do great technical things and make games on that engine that give me a great experience in the same way Sony have done so far then I look forward to seeing it and would welcome it and the games with open arms because it might convince me to get a 360 again.

the X-Engine also unlocks more Hardware features of the 360 that haven't been used yet...the newest PC cards will use the new Directx 11 which includes the use of hardware Tesselation and Memexport.

The X-Engine will make it possible to use those two Hardware features in the Xbox360 because Tesselation and memexport were dorment hardware features of the Xbox360(unused till now). look up Tesselation/directx 11 on google and ATI/AMD Cinema 2.0 and see what the implications are for games.

It doesn't matter how many x engines you invent. The xbox doesn't have the storage medium to hold the larger textures and it doesn't have the cell to throw up those high polygon counts. The ps3 is light years ahead of anything the xbox can do.Lets compare recent exclusives by both companies.

Direct x 11 and tessellation are nice effects n all, but without the ability to store a high number of high resolution textures its all for moot. Games would look awesome but be only 5 minutes long...thats why we need bluray.

GOW are great games because of the storytelling and the pathos.
There are impressive games for both console and right now I enjoy PS3 more, but this is not due to lack of "X - Engine" for XBox 360.
In the end it all depends on your taste for games.

I am very proud to say that Sony continues to innovate with games, media (Blu Ray, Web Browsing, WiFi, streaming), drop more developers than American Idol, Jay-Z, and P. Ditty can drop music artist, and do not try to rip off their customers. There are more AAA PS3 exclusives in 2009, than MS has droped since it been out. (Thats no lie either...check for yourselves.) And the argument of sale numers for LBP, Resistance 3, Killzone 2, LBP, Infamous, Demon Soul, Uncharted 2, GOW collectors edition, and Ratchet doest hold weight. LOOK HOW CLOSE AND IN CONSISTANT IN QUALITY THE GAMES COME OUT!! This is why they all sell 2 million a piece, rather than just 1 or 2 bones a year, Sony drops plenty of AAA games!

While there are small improvements and memory bandwidth improvements, games are still limited to DVD capacity limit and hardware is based on an old PC architecture. XBOX 360 is nearly done, once Sony pushes out God of War III, Heavy Rain and Gran Turismo 5, it will be time to put a fork in Microsoft XBOX 360

at leasr to me it is. In the next 2 years we will have 2 new consoles: Xbox 3 and Wii2. While PS3 will still be around and devs will most likely finally will have mastered the PS3 technology by then.

If I was MS I would focus on a new console, and if I wasn't making a new console focus on Natal as much as possible. Next year will be year 5 for 360 and that is usually when console cycles end. MS needs Natal to extend 360 shelf life and that is a basic as I can make it.

With Wii2 coming around 2011, it should be significantly stronger than 360 and on par with PS3,so MS having a strong foothold with Natal is a must.

PS3 should still be going strong by 2011 and should see overall console sales around 40 million by then. If not they will need to really evaluate what plan of attack they want to continue with.

Check this out though similiar to the edge engine utilized in the ps3 dev tool set look at how these games enhanced so much, but also look at how multi plat games on ps3 are performing now since the addition of these new tools. Killzone 2 was enhanced utilizing the edge tool set for ps3 devs.

2. xbox360 had a rough year in terms of reaching that milestone in game quality, that we're seeing in ps3 titles but 2010 already looks night and day in comparison and the same effect that gears of war had on gamers prepare to be blown away in 2010 with the xbox360.

Unreal Engine doesn't even get the most out of the 360 yet it's the most used engine on the platform so that means with the addition of this tool set/x-engine it should allow for memory to be used in games, better testing for games before their released, and a better and easier development process for the games coming out.

Shane kims says the 360 can last to 2015 well with this upgrade in terms of being competitive yes this may very well be the answer

i say this all the time you cant change hardware just software. software can do amaizing things, but hardware makes that possible,so if you built a inferior system, a simple software update may get things running better but the machine is still only gonna be able to do so much. good story but its a new engine thats all it will probably be something that the ps3 does with their system soon. oh wait they did just free up some memory for devlopers. x engine wont make a difference.

The 360's just weak, outdated hardware. The greatest engine in the world isn't much without something like the PS3 to power it.
