by the end of october 2006 only ~6 mln x360 was sold worldwide.

I mean, x360 didn`t have so much really amazing games(you may think that those are average games, but then try to match for every of those games, which will be released on ps3 during june-october 2007 with games released during june-october 2006 on x360).

...as there seems to be so much discussion and debate about how to tranform the PS3 into a success. Maybe they should try something simple like releasing some killers games and cutting the price by 40%. Give consumers a reason to buy rather than trying to pursude them to by by listing all the tech specs and capabilities.

Actually they should just take the Bluray drive out which would probably drop the price by at least 30 percent. They could easily do this as Bluray can play standard dvd's. They just got too greedy this time around. They thought they could use fanboys as pawns to put a new media format into everyones living room. One that they get sole royalties for. Which they can because people are stupid. Sony could say the world was flat because the cell calculated it and people would believe. I have news for you people more storage does not make better games. it has nothing to do with graphics. You could put a game on 1 Bluray disk or 4 dvd9s. It will still be the same exact game. When the 360 came out it didnt matter. we hade call of duty 2 mp for all christmas and summer. then the new oblivion came out and kept me busy for months not to mention ghost recon and condemned. the ps3 had a full extra year to develop games, get a great line up, but none are here yet. and by the way ur an idiot for saying the only game well be playing is halo3. ill be playing bioshock, mass effect, halo 3 and assasins creed. all the games u get are comin out on 360. when a kid this christmas wants a console hmmm. game with all 3rd party games and halo3 or a more expensive console with less games, plus the 360 will be either 50 or 100$ cheaper. not everyone has 600$. a kid will take the 360 if they can buy the console and use the other 300$ to buy assasins creed, halo 3, mass effect, and brothers in arms. there is No reason to buy the ps3. everyone is downloading high def content anyways. bottom line is you can compare the two launches. the ps3 had an extra year and they still have no games coming out. the only way to make decent money is on the 360 and face it this generations ps2 is the 360. just wait for it. PRICE CUT, HUGE MARKETING for halo 3 and mass effect, AND TOO MANY GAMES=ALL THE ATTENTION ON 360 AND NO SALES FOR PS3. watch the 360 outsell the ps3 in japan very soon!!! they already at 8000 a week. no one wants it. it looks like a barbicue.

PS3 is expensive if you perceive it, if you sit down and do your math, it is cheaper to maintain than the 360 over the course of next five to seven years.

Unless you don't plan to play online, and if you don't plan to play online, why the heck are you getting a xbox if that's what shines on that console as so many ppl say it does.

If you own your 360 for five years, you will be paying 250 dollar, if you need ur Wireless, you dish out even more, not to mention the optional HD DVD drive that no one really buys..so i won't add that cost. What about after five years or in those really tough school/work/social time that you dont' have as much time to play? will you keep on paying those 50 dollar or cancel ur service?

Guess what, PS3 is all free, money save for the long run, you can log on to ur PS3 10 years form now all for free and still play online all for free.

The Wii is a good console, the 360 is a good console and the PS2 is a good console but the PS3 is a slap in the face to gamers. The PS3s purpose it to force the Blu-Ray format into the large install base of the Ps2. What you don't see is Nintendo trying to force the Wiimote on people because it comes with a standard controller. You also don't see Microsoft trying to force Vista onto its console.

Sony cut corners and tech from the original design of the PS3 so they could force Blu-Ray down our throats, which is why the PS3 was delayed half a year. They also didn’t put in any HD cables when they were hyping the PS3 as the ultimate HD gaming console and not to mention they cut “rumble”, “RAM” and there (LOL) seven controller support. DON’T FORGET THE PRICE TAG of the PS3 is just plain f**ked up. The past couple of months, hell ever since they launched all you see is a decline in sales of the PS3, while the PS2 (a good console I own one) sees great sales.

My only beef with the Wii is its lack of HD and mature titles (not a fan of hack n slash) and my only problem with the 360 is its lack of backwards compatibility of all the good games (yeah I know there working on it and that emulation is hard) My only problem with my PS2 is I have had to change the freaking disk drive now 3 f**king times (but over all it’s a phenomenal console) The PS3 will never see my home “EVER” because I feel betrayed by the once mighty Playstation brand and what they have done with the console this gen and with the crap, lies and “undelivered” promises that spewed out there executives mouths just make me sick and hate the PS3 even more. IF Microsoft were to ever try and force HDDVD or Vista on my gaming console, which would piss me off as well. “No Sony please pull this Blu-Ray player out of my throat, I don’t want to be force fed”

To DrWan above Who do you think floats the bill for that free online on the PS3? Sony pushes the cost to publishers and devs that who and don't forget about the advertising. Sony suffered the same problems with the PS2 to some extent. People did not believe that a DVD-Rom drive was required, it sold in low numbers and then games such as GTA 3 and GT 3 came out. Then the console sold in droves.

The PS3 may take a while to get off the ground (exclusives going multi format and delays will do that to a console), but with a pretty strong line-up for Autumn / Winter and getting the Internet gameplay right this time around. Sony should be getting back on track by Christmas.

PS3 won't die, it just takes a bit more time to adapt the system.

EDIT: To Nix below, I'm not trying to be nice here nor I side with anything (ok, I have 360 and I love it), but what I said above is a prolly the fact. We don't know how it affects PS3 in the end, but it certainly is not helping it atm, but I honestly think PS3 won't die.

When the PS2 arrived DVD was already an established format. There was no format war going on. When I bought my PS2 I already had a dvd player.(and I bought it when it was fist released} How many people do you think already had a Bluray player before they bought a PS3. Not many, if any, it is a brand new technology. Sony delayed the PS3 just so it could have a Bluray drive in it. If microsoft would have done the same thing with HD DVD the format war might already be over with. But no, sony is dirty and wants their royalties from bluray so badly, they make you buy it in their PS3.....and peple are so stupid they think it gives them a better gameplay experience. The PS3 has been out for quite a while now, and still not that many games. And what do people say, thats OK I can watch 1080p Bluray movies......so who still gets paid......UM..........Sony.... So Toshiba, who releases the same technology in HD DVD{which is cheaper} has to fight a two front war. They have to outsell standalone Blu ray players as well as the PS3.....and they trick gullible people into thinking it is necessary. Well guess what its not. Sony could have released the PS3 a few months after the 360 and they would have probably outsold it by a long shot. They could have an install base of 20 million by now, but you no what, now they have their precious BD drive in their now. They do have a 10 yr plan. To win the format war and make billions bc of misinformed people that are so gullible. They were right when they said they could release PS3 with no games and it would still sell. This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.
