For the price of a PS3 or 360 game I could get 2 or more games on steam e.g. I got Saints Row 2 for £3 on steam and Oblivion GoTY with all DLC for £12 or for example:

MS is claiming on this article that a little percentage of their consoles are modded. Is that true? Because in my country a HUGE percenatge of xbox360, wii, ps2, psp, ds, xbox, gamecubes, etc., are modded and believe me, it's really hard to find one unmodded, and if you find it, you have to travel to the capital of my country to find 5 or 8 stores that sell original accesories or titles for 2 or 3 times the price you can find them in the USA, for an example... And i know, for all over the web, that modded consoles is a problem of the whole world... This represent an effective way to defeat the piracy on videogames? Will XBL survive without the 50 bucks paid by the pirates?... Or will the hackers find a way to go trough XBL?... And by the way, if a modded console could (or can) works on XBL, it doesn't mean the vulnerability of the service? Is XBL secure against hacker's attack? And what happen if MS makes a mistake and ban a XBL accout of someone with an unmodded console (please anyone can give some advice)?

How many of these rabbid Xbox360 loyalists have modded their console. I be its more than 70% because it's my experience that those are the most vocal about their Xbox360 support when they actually don't.

There goes any reason to own a 360. Seriously though, I have a buddy who only has a 360 to play pirated games for free. this move by microsoft just sold a bunch of PS3s.

And games like Halo ODST still manages to sell over 2 million on its first day. WOW.

A good selling point for the 360 was the fact that it COULD be modded, and that would have attracted the pirates, but now that they are banning pirates, the 360 does not have this influence on pirates now and PS3 sales will just increase and i'm sure the amount of people on live consisted of a good amount of pirates. Seems like a pretty bad time to do this since the PS3 just had a really good year.

there is no cure for piracy. ms bans accounts and they also lose money for it depending on how many accounts have been banned. it also doesnt stop people from still burning games and playing offline, plus this makes more users who have a ps3 with no piracy to play the ps3 more since their accounts are banned off live to buy the actual game and play for free! win for sony

They do this every year, right before people start buying consoles for the holiday season. I wonder how much of their sales attributes to repurchases during this time of year. It's nice to see that they are fighting off piracy....But why wouldn't they just design to console to be much more difficult to hack? Or introduce it in new motherboard revisions? I hate to say it, but banning people's modded consoles from LIVE only makes them get new consoles. Whether they buy new arcades and get them modded, or purchase used ones, it probably helps MS when the sales numbers roll around.

very very simple way around this. do not play your pirated game before the release date of that game as they can tell by the date of any achievements you may have gotten. Microshaft cannot tell if you have a modded console or burned disk alone. I have over 200 sh1t60 games, if I liked it I buy it for the PS3 HAHAHA microsh1t.

They're always stealing my stuff. Whenever I sail around Cuba I'm always running into those pesky b*tches. I tell my men to load the cannons but not fire, hoping that the pirates don't attack, but what do they do.

You have two ways of not getting ban from Live
1. you buy the game from the store
2. you rent it by Gamefly or Gamerang

really people if you don't want to spend $60 on a game, rent it. really how hard is that, you rent two games for $25 a month, you save $35 per month & if you really like the game you can buy it.
