Nintendo needs content, reason why profits are falling

Nintendo DPad writes:
"Iwata has recently commented on Nintendo's earning reports released yesterday. However, the reason why profits are falling as well as the reason why the price cut wasn't a huge boost was because of content."

Man it is true that Nintendo software line up this year has been a drab affair. Last year was way better software wise, Wii Fit, Mario Kart, Brawl, Animal Crossing. This year it has been Punch-Out!! and Wii Sports Resort.

New Super Mario Bros will be huge, but it is odd Nintendo didn't have anything for the spring time released.

snipermk06030d ago

Like hell yea Nintendo needs content!!

mal_tez926030d ago

Smash Brothers Brawl and Zelda are the only real good ones, I do play a lot of SSBB. Mario Kart Wii was disappointing, and I hate mini games like Wii Sports.

For adult gamers, the Wii offers nothing in terms of violent killing games.

mikeslemonade6029d ago

Unless it's Mario I probably will not play it cause it's not HD. The game could be a 9 and I won't play it.

rockleex6029d ago

Not that I wanted it, but we all knew it was going to happen.

ChickeyCantor6029d ago

Its hilarious,
Cause Back in the GCN/N64 days developers cried that it was impossible to compete with Nintendo's games on their own system. Now Nintendo is giving them so much time that even now they suck balls.( with a few exceptions)

The only B/tch move Nintendo makes is when they announce a game shortly before its release date.

With the bank that they're sitting on, I think they can afford to somewhat abandon the current system and invest their earnings into R&D for the next Nintendo console.

With their profits "falling" at least they're still making a profit...

...unlike some consoles.

Product6030d ago

People forget that a whole lot of R&D went into making the Wii remote. A lot more than people think actually. I have a feeling if Wii 2 ever comes along, the R&D will be mostly in the interface and ease of use rather than the GPU or CPU.

Check out the Iwata ask on the Wii remote, very interesting read.

ChickeyCantor6029d ago (Edited 6029d ago )

" the R&D will be mostly in the interface and ease of use "

That step has already been done, Nintendo will focus on the wii-mote system and improve on that. But since huge research is already done on that matter, they can now put some money on the console specs.

But you can bet on it that they will go for a 250 price anyway, so they will just wait till tech drops its price thats similar to the Ps3's hardware and create a powerful system for less.

The more they get into advanced motion controller, it will become more likely that they will need to upgrade their hardware to a new level.

jakethesnake6029d ago

I don't think that Nintendo can afford to abandon the wii yet to focus on R&D. By doing that they will essentially concede to the PS3 and 360 and when the follow up to the wii comes out a lot of people will remember the wii only for it smaller catalog and lack of support. They need to go out with a bang by pumping out some quality games so that the aftertaste of the wii is pleasant.

You have to understand that Nintendo will see motion controls as a red ocean up to the launch of the Wii2 or whatever they call it. Nintendo will create something new neither are doing. Motion control tech wil get better, but will not be the main focus for the next system.

Remember Nintendo actually wanted the Wii at "under $200" at launch, but couldn't due to cost. Motion controls will be old news once Nintendo creates whatever they create that influences the market.

ChickeyCantor6029d ago (Edited 6029d ago )

yes but as the NES pad changed into a SNES/SEGA pad into a PS1 pad etc etc...i think The Wii-mote will stay for a while.
They've already established a new type of controller.
Of course they will do some research for new types of interfaces, but it seems like the Wii-mote is pretty versatile in what it does.
The attachment bay seems ideal for other types of controllers as well.

Even sony has a wand now.

Don't forget; the wii-mote is very popular among the so called casual crowd.

Product6029d ago

No, no, I dont mean the wii remote wont stay i mean it will not be the center of attention next console.

Maybe next time Nintendo will learn that you need to keep your fans happy to stay on top, because the mass market goes with the trends.

When a trend starts to die out with the Masses, and you've done almost nothing but piss off your fans for the past 3 years your bound to end up in a bad spot.

Fierce Musashi6030d ago (Edited 6030d ago )

I'm sorry, but if you know anything about current and upcoming Wii games you would know there are more core/hardcore Nintendo titles than stuff like Wii sports.

The reason we get like 2 Zelda, Metroid, and Mario games a gen is for the fans. The very people you say Nintendo isn't making "happy". And believe it or not, the actual fans (not fake asses) can't get enough of those core titles.

na-no-nai6030d ago

i beg to differ. i been a fan since i was really young but how many will actually abandon nintendo for good??

i think what they did was great. beside lots of parents buy it for there kids

ndpad6030d ago

More games on Wii should be like Mario Kart, great for core and casuals both.

Why the Wii is Such a Nostalgic System in 2026

The Wii is now a retro console. Let’s get nostalgic about an often maligned system.

Crazy to think the WII is to the Switch 2, as the NES was to the WII back then. 20 Year difference.

jznrpg10d ago

My wife asks me to bust it out (heh) everyone once in a while to play bowling and tennis with the kids. There was a ton of slop on it but some good stuff as well.

Smellsforfree10d ago

Wii was great but boy howdy did it cause Microsoft to go on a dark walk with the Kinect and the disastrous XBox One launch that they arguably never recovered from.

Loktai10d ago

Not nostalgic for me.. I was there.. anyone who wasnt a little kid realized it was a gamecube with shit tacked onto it, it was the "joke" system and was well below even the switch in terms of comparing it to the latest machines at the time. The machine was well loved by young people and "casual gamers" who now remember it 20 years on, or in most cases more of its sales came in the 15-20 years ago range not right at launch- but again its not nostalgic for people who were "gamers" then really, just for those who ended up with one in their house, the games , graphics, interface and online features were archaic already in 2006.

Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire (1996) Still Feels Like Peak 90s Star Wars

This game along with Rogue Squadron got me into to Star Wars. The release of special edition VHS Star Wars collection was perfectly times on top of all that. 😆

Redgrave40d ago

Because it is.

Please re-release this.

SimpleSlave40d ago (Edited 40d ago )

But it wasn't. Although I do agree that some of the tie-in media, like the novels and comics, were pretty good.

Still, games like Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, Rogue Squadron, and the space sims were peak 90s Star Wars. Shadows fell flat because of the abysmal controls and unimaginative levels. And if you wanted to really experience the seedy side of the universe, Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 was peak, and it wasn't even close.

Regardless, and much to my dismay, we got the better version thanks to Ubislop in Outlaws, which is what Shadows should've been, albeit at a smaller scale.

As a kid me and my cousins loved this game . I have great memories with this one and the Star Wars pod racer game .
