Apple Slams Windows 7 in Ads

PC World: "Not only Microsoft is celebrating the launch of Windows 7 with some new ads, but Apple is also taking a stab at the introduction of the new OS, in its usual deprecating manner.

Given that everybody is talking about Windows 7 this week, Apple tried to steal Microsoft's launch aura, first by introducing new hardware on Tuesday and then with a three-ad series taking the ridiculing Windows 7 on Thursday.

We have yet to see whether Microsoft will come up with different ads that will attack Apple again, but it sure looks like Apple is not backing down -- especially as it wasn't very happy about the Laptop Hunters campaign."

KingKionic 6051d ago

Wow...apple did some good ads .

Serial_EDX6050d ago

Give it some time, MS will come back with another ad. Then Mac will start crying like they did not to long ago. XD

ReviewsArePolitics6050d ago

Why would anyone spend more to get so much less on a computer. The only benefit is less crashes and more security but even then it's not perfect. There are always solutions for Windows. Also, Windows has so many issues because of everything it can do and because of its market penetration as opposed to Mac. If Mac was in Windows' place, it would be plagued by Viruses. Mac owners should be grateful that they are still the minority, otherwise all their benefits would evaporate.

Milky Joe6050d ago

Microsoft are evil and all that but I mean this really isn't a form of advertising I appreciate... Don't sell your product dumping all over the competitors, sell it by actually informing people of the unique benefits of your product.

Winter47th6050d ago (Edited 6050d ago )

If there's one thing worse than Microsoft, it's Apple. Everything they make cost 2.5 times the original price, and the ads, can't they just "try" to be original and not climb on the shoulders of everyone else?

And when Microsoft comes back at them in ads my god do they b!tch & moan alright.

andron6050d ago

I'm a linux guy, so I'm not championing Apple here. I just enjoy any ad that rags on MS and winos...

TheSadTruth6050d ago

the same bs, have you even tried windows 7?

I would pay the full retail price just for the new window snapping

HolyOrangeCows6050d ago

You'll spend a thousand dollars on add-ons before you have any decent software.

rpgenius4206050d ago

Macs and PC's have the same sh*t on the inside yet you pay more for apple products. I don't want to hear about graphic design and all that bullshit because a PC can do all a Mac can in that area and then you could pop in a sick PC game.

~Peace

freeblue6050d ago

when MS made an ads about Apple's price, it complaints about that's not fair. but it's fine for them to talk aobut security, eventhrough last year, Apple was the first computer to get Hacked in the Security convention.

N4g_null6050d ago

Notice in those ads that they don't included gaming at all. Direct x 11 is the next big thing and what is even sadder is no one consider the mac to be a gaming platform. If you want to check your email or just impress your design teacher with a laptop then cool but other wise you can do all of that on the PS3 to the Wii even the email. And guess what mac do crash as much as PC I crashed two in best buy the other day!

I can not stand hype and their is so many reason why they are still the best looking second place platform.

Kaneda6050d ago

Well, Mac can run both OS.. OS X and Windows.. wouldn't you pay more for that?

Bnet3436050d ago

These Mac ads are so misleading. "PC's have virsuses" Apple think we're still living in 1998 or something.

JasonPC360PS3Wii6050d ago

Thats true MAC did do alot of crying over the cheaper PC ads. MAC even called MS up to cry over the phone begging for MS to stop showing the ads.

Knghtz6050d ago

Addons? What are you even talking about? Good lord...

acedoh6050d ago

Not every one uses computers for gaming. Actually a small percentage of PC users ever use their computer for high end gaming. The popular games are on both Mac and PC platforms. I use my Mac for applications and internet. Yes it costs more but it performs much better. I was a lifelong PC user until three years ago. I use a PC all day at work and it is slow and consistently fails when trying to do several apps. Yes that is a problem I have always had with PC's. My Mac is great and it turns on fast and never has problems. I mean never.

People have a choice and if people just want a computer to run app's and internet the Mac is much better at a higher cost.

f7897906050d ago

If you are comparing an old pc to a new mac, OF COURSE THE MAC IS FASTER!

But yeah, Vista does slow down everything a bit but I have no problem doing a defrag, downloads (not the smartest with a defrag running), and a game all at once.

MikeGdaGod6050d ago

the performance on my mac is on another level and so far i've had absolutely no problems at all.

plus if there's ever a time where i HAVE to use an application that's for PC only, i just run VMware Fusion, and i pick which Windows OS i want to use (i have both XP and Windows 7 installed) and it runs in parallel with OSX with seamless integration

with VMware, i have absolutely no need for a PC. yes macs cost more, but in the long run i think they're worth a few extra bucks. i don't not work with any type of design programs or anything like that. i use my mac for regular everyday office work and personal uses and i've been more than satisfied.

i will never go back.........NEVER

thesummerofgeorge6050d ago (Edited 6050d ago )

But would you rather Windows be the only game in town? Mac whether you like it or not forces Windows to step up it's game, by taking business away, that's a good thing, would you really want things to go back to the way they were when there was virtually only one choice? I switched to a Macbook Pro about 2 years ago, and I won't ever be switching back, simply because I had years of headaches with Windows. I like how streamlined everything is with Macs now, but Macs aren't hardcore gaming machines, they aren't designed to be, but I'm sure one of these days they will tackle that aspect of the market, and choice is always a good thing. Macs do many things better than Windows and vice versa, but it seems everyone here is giving Windows a pass for the garbage they've gotten away with thus far. Need I remind you of Vista?

evrfighter6050d ago

the humor in the im a pc ads have definately returned. I enjoy watching them even though I'll never buy an apple product in my life. But M$ never released a final build of an os that not only crashes but deletes everything in your hard drive all at once.

That = biggest LOL and irony I've ever seen.

Raz6050d ago

For gaming and porn apps, PC is still the king - for everything else, there's Mac.

I don't mind paying a little more for quality hardware. That's why I have a PS3, and it's why I have a Mac.

Because life's too short to spend it on the phone with tech support.

Arnon6050d ago (Edited 6050d ago )

No no no... Macs have the same BASIC components a PC has on the inside (meaning very little upgrades are allowed), and are double-triple the price.

dawgsfan1176050d ago

Im kinda tired of apple. I dont know that I have ever seen a mac commercial that told me anything about its capabilities. All they do is bash MS.

masterg6050d ago

To me anyone who spent their ad time badmouthing another product rather that tell about their own are desperate.

The Mac has just as many problems as early windows releases has. The difference is you don't have limits on a PC compared to a Mac. On a Mac you can do two things. Text editing and image editing. On all other stuff the PC is the better choice.

I just installed Windows 7 the other day. It runs smoothly.
Vista was a big mistake (although it worked fine after the first service pack)

likedamaster6050d ago (Edited 6050d ago )

Tasteless and childish. Fail. There's other ways to get your point across without resorting to "cheap shots".

Timesplitter146050d ago (Edited 6050d ago )

So they're basically saying "Windows is crap. Trust us."

That's a good ad? Funny how they didn't even talk about what their own product could do.

Blaze9296050d ago

That first commercial was hilarious...the rest not so much. Anyway looks like Apple is just playing scared - they know how awesome Windows 7 is; even if it did rip off 99.9% of Mac OS's features rofl. Seriously though, Windows 7 kicks ass.

N4g_null6050d ago

Another thing I hate is this "we don't want MS to be the only game in town". Seriously we have console OS to high end server OS that are not even apple or MS based. So to act like you are taking the good side is silly. MS and Apple know most of you are not computer literate enough to run any OS you want and on top of this you can install vista on the new mac power books because it has the same hardware!

On top of this tell me how many mac user will be upgrading their GPUs to the new Ati direct x 11 card, it does do open GL also? Almost none I bet.

Another thing yes people do a lot more with their PCs and we also connect them to external graphics cards push millions of polygons across the screen for special effect and we love CS4 along with all of those tools that work best on PC because we can actually configure the system to support that high end stuff.

Now if I just want a cool case and a GUI that pretty much hides all the functionality then I will get a mac.

Most of the mac user don't even know how to disable or keep apps from loading when they boot up their system. Vista and now Win 7 has this right in front of you and even access to the hardcore server controls.

On top of this almost all the dev tools are pretty much free now and even have docs online. Hell you can even set your PC up to program xbox games now pretty easily. Well if apple actually had a system that would be some thing I know they would offer.

Also Itune is a DRM fest... I have crashed way more macs simply because they just don't have the power a PC has.

DevastationEve6050d ago

Insults can't stop the 7 fever. Mac is desperate...I mean they might have to do something really new at this point. Like being original and not just trying to hate on PC.

I like Apple products and their software is always well rated, but their business strategy is horrid. They make their small piece of the pie by insulting you and me for liking Windows.

That's right folks...they're insulting THE CUSTOMERS THAT SUPPORT WINDOWS! So in response I won't be buying a Mac this year, no thanks.

Those are great commercials, as always, but... they're still makes. What kind of self-respecting person would want a mac? They're over-priced, and only hipsters, trend-followers, and fine arts students/workers would really have a need for them.

kaveti66166051d ago

Macs are useful for doing very specialized media tasks. Although I do believe that a lot of elitists choose Apple products because they think they are hip, I don't think that most Apple users are that way. The Ipod touch and Iphone are great pieces of technology, in my opinion.

Cyorg6050d ago

Did you know that Pixar uses Linux, and that all the special effects in the Transformers movies were done with Linux?

leftbehindxp6050d ago (Edited 6050d ago )

Mac offers the security that I want, it's easy to use, their website with downloads is great, minimal crashes, and like the ads say customer support is awesome (they actually speak english).

Now while I prefer Mac over Windows, these commercials are starting to irritate me. The first one was funny, but the rest are just similar (using customer service as their main point) to one another and older ads. Not tasteful at all coming from Apple. Also people in general here, please don't think that all people who use Macs go along and agree to these commercials. I'm a Mac, but I am looking forward to Windows 7. The reason why I switched over is due to security, and it sounds like Windows 7 is bringing that up for free. Then I can finally go back to Windows...on my Mac

Also, if they do bring Mac support to their HD Zune I will drop my iPod in a heartbeat.

N4g_null6050d ago

kaveti6616 most effect houses that are serious about performance have PC hardware using linux. If they are not then they have a hybrid system. CS4 actually runs better on a PC due to the price difference of what you can get along with server farms. You will see more art student and artist who like to throw money out of the window using mac desktops simply because they never actually study the pros and cons.

I know a few people who actually funded their college by out rendering these mac only effect houses. On top of this you always get the news stuff for the PC. With macs you have to wait or even skips chips for years while we can get the top of the line now and put it in any case we want.

Also CS4 crushed any video software on the mac also their are many highend apps that just do not work on macs. For a while Z brush was one of them.

yet microsoft made a loss year and the reason is because they offered everyone who bought a new PC in the summer with Vista on it a free upgrade to Win7.

Macs - Computers for people who can't use computers.

villevalorox6051d ago

I have to disagree with that. I have used and have had all Operating systems with the exception of windows 7 and any other linux than Ubuntu. Sure each has it's lust. Mac=super easy, clean to use, and they run very well. Windows= compatible and mainstream with lot's of support and the option to customize if you know how. Ubuntu= top customization, free haha and rather advanced if you get deep into it. I love Mac for the same fact I love my ps3, It's beautiful and great hardware. Over priced? yeah, but what's not + mac os runs really great with the hardware while windows kind of tears on that. Reason I love windows is because the software support and that is about it. Mac is made easy, and that is the way it should be. .

socomnick6050d ago

Macs are only for hipsters and douche bags, they like feeling like the minority, they embrace the elitism of owning an overpriced piece of hardware that does less than the competition.

nah its to those PPL that got money to spend
you know trying to be different and cool and stuff

all and all
MAC got his pros and cons
PC got its pors and cons

im still using XP by the way
the best windows i've ever used
stable, simple and dose not use much RAM

CyberCam6050d ago (Edited 6050d ago )

A very racist & ignorant statement! So you are the fore most expert on Mac users? Have you ever used a Mac? Have you ever used Linux? Some how I get the feeling that you only know & use windows, because someone that has used all three o/s's (especially in a business environment) would never make such an idiotic statement!

I use all O/S's (even unix), because my IT business supports them all. You obvious don't know what the hell you're talking about. All OS have there pros & cons and all o/s have users from all walks of life. There are many Mac users that don't have a lot of money... some of them get there Macs used. Many business' used Macs for multimedia applications. Also, take a trip to a college or university, there are Mac laptops everywhere on the campus's.

thesummerofgeorge6050d ago (Edited 6050d ago )

What an embarrassingly ignorant thing to say. I guess when you say computers you mean Windows, and it's not about knowing how to deal with a blue screen of death, it's about not wanting to have to. What's wrong with wanting a simple, functional, reliable system? Apparently you measure a computers value by how challenging it is to do simple tasks, that's a safe assumption based on your comment. I like not having to wipe my hard drive clean once every 6 months like I used to with Windows, I like that Apple looks for ways to make things more convenient for me, I use my computer everyday, I don't need complications to enjoy it.

Edit: Oh and Socomnick, I'd be careful calling me a douchebag for using a mac cause if that picture next to your name is of you, then I hate to break it to you but it defines the word.

beardpapa6050d ago (Edited 6050d ago )

I have a ubuntu box, a unibody mbp, and [now] have a recently upgraded Win7 Pro laptop. As far as everything goes, I don't approve of Apple tv ads. They don't really tell me much about about the product other than it being a hipster gadget. In fact, Apple.com tells me more about the products they sell.

For those that claim an Apple is an overpriced piece of crap, that isn't entirely true. They are in some cases cheaper or on par with PC alternatives. I feel that the cost of an Apple computer is the price of admission to using their MacOS.

I won't say which is better since all operating systems have their ups and downs, but Macs were never designed for gaming, so people shouldn't use that as an argument towards Apple computers. They've always been designed more for productivity.

Apple computers and PC computers differ a lot in terms of finding a Mac software that does the same thing as a PC equivalent. It's easier to find on the PC, but a Mac user has to be more resourceful and look around to find something similar. I use Microsoft OneNote to do tablet style note taking or drafting work flows, but I couldn't as easily find an equivalent app for MacOS. After awhile of browsing, I eventually came upon Curio which would be the OneNote alternative but with a design more geared towards work flows and idea sharing.

Microsoft has Movie Maker for Windows, but I find that iMovie works much better, faster, and more user intuitive for those wanting to create a quick movie for sharing on youtube and the likes. Final Cut Pro brings it even further for professionals, Final Cut Express for us amateur movie editors, and Aperture is an excellent app for photography professionals. But one thing I do enjoy in using the MacOS is that I don't anticipate crashes and freezes as often as I would've on the Windows platform. Photoshop CS4 master collection loads up fast and I can work with many many layers in a psd file without slow down or fear it will crash anytime soon from using too much memory.

Another thing I love a lot about the Mac platform is that I can pretty much plug in anything and it will be immediately detected, and work synergistically with the apps I have installed. I don't need to browse around the internet to find a printer driver or camera driver. There is no window popping up asking me what to do. I can just open Aperture or iPhoto, select my camera, select the photos, write my description or event info, and import.

It's straightforward, and like someone said, "streamlined," and extremely user friendly - qualities that make MacOS a very productive environment to work in.

On the Windows environment, popups occasionally occur asking me to update or telling me my definitions are outdated. Sometimes popups would tell me I'm not in the correct network or that my firewall is off. Or the dreaded popup asking me what to do. Sure, people can say "You can just go turn that off in Options" but the thing is, you don't have to do that on a Mac. The only occasional system popup on a Mac is the Software Updates and generally, it looks for all available updates on the system in one go. Where in the Windows environment, Java would pop up telling me to update, Norton would tell me to get a new definition, or Windows Update telling me I need to download a new security hotfix.

Now I haven't experienced any permanent system freezes or crashes, and I haven't had a necessity to restart my Mac because of memory leaks or slow performance over time. This I had to do many times on Windows 95, 98, Me, XP, and Vista. Like someone said as well, oddly enough, 2000 was the most stable Windows I've ever used. However, the Mac does have the dreaded Rainbow Wheel of Death, and I would think it's far worse than the BSoD, because at least with the BSoD, the user can somewhat trace it to what's causing it. With the Rainbow Wheel of Death however, Console just pumps out the same Tx hang detected log and nobody knows what that means. Now the RWoD isn't a system freeze, but it's an intermittent stutter, and I've found that the cause of it on my system was the WebpageFetcher in Safari, so I practically just cleared the cache out of that folder and it's been fine since. Otherwise, I use FireFox as an alternative to Safari.

Why doesn't anybody know what it means? Because Apple Customer support is purely crap. For that, i don't agree with the ads about customer support and satisfaction. There are a lot of satisfied customers, that's for sure, but at the same time when those customers bump into aforementioned Rainbow Wheel of Death, Apple tells them to go seek a Stupid Genius Bar for assistance. Most of the times, Apple just ignores these complaints and I would have to say the majority of the time they don't know what causes it. And because of that, people really don't know why Safari would slow down, why the Color Wheel would pop up every 30 seconds or so sometimes, and other unexplainable performance drops.

Oddly enough, those performance drops are fixed by a fresh install or using a new account. But that's not a proper fix. Coincidentally enough, one can "fix" their Windows problems with a fresh install too.

So I would say, in regards to problems, both operating systems go through the same crap.

But in terms of productivity, I would say the Mac platform wins hands down on it simply because I don't have to worry about update popups, frequent notices of security holes, or trying to find a driver to get something working. It is simply more straightforward to use, intuitive, and streamlined.

Though.... I still think the NeXT OSX Finder sucks.

Luckily, Windows 7 fixes a lot of the issues I had with Vista, is very snappy, and is also very suitable for my media serving and remote networking needs.

Spiden806050d ago

Ever used the Terminal under Utilities buddy?? probably not!

N4g_null6050d ago

Dame@CyberCam Mac users are a race now wow! I better watch out for them then you know you can not trust people you have no idea about.

I though mac users where design students that where only taught how to use macs and then converted all the older people in their family.

Which is why they are still 10%plus of the market. Why macs are not used in real business orientated companies is beyond me, oh the cost and the lack of a need to look cool. Like most macs users it's for email and the web that is it.

I fail to see how this is AI shhhhlllloooop. Looking at the different games they showed, this has made many of them look far better.

isarai_lee53d ago (Edited 53d ago )

It's AI slop because it ignores the artists intent and changes the details ESPECIALLY when it comes to character faces. The scariest part of it is introducing it as the next stage of DLSS, a feature where the current iteration already has controversy surrounding it and for quite a lot of games cannot be fully disabled. So reasonably the precident is already set for what path this could take, and it's not good

blacktiger53d ago

In case you didn't watch the video then let me point just one part. It overrides the lighting. Then the question of what is the point of ray tracing cost and so on. Many of the lighting deletes shadow, including shadow on the face like eyes even chin.

Chard53d ago

Why stop at art when it comes to human input - why not just have AI play the game for us, remove human input altogether

theshizer53d ago

If you don’t like it, just don’t enable it. Personally I think it looks great from the videos I have seen.

isarai_lee53d ago

And what about when you can't? Cause there's plenty of games where you cannot fully disable dlss already, i mean we're well into an era where it's a major crutch for developers to cover up their cut corners, why would this be any different?

blacktiger53d ago

You are playing with people's money and allow Nvidia to scam you.

In case you didn't watch the video then let me point just one part. It overrides the lighting. Then the question of what is the point of ray tracing cost. This is all lie to raise the cost of the graphic card.

Andrew33653d ago

Making characters look more realistic not ok because we want the developer to decide on how the game was intended to look. - Internet

Change entire game through mods thus changing how the developers intended the game to be is ok. - Internet

isarai_lee53d ago

Something consumers can do to a product after they have purchased it, entirely optional and can always be undone with a fresh install

VS

The leading gaming hardware manufacturer making this the next iteration of the main AA/Upscaling technique that is heavily relied upod by modern devs and is not optional in most games.

Not at all the same but nice try

jwillj2k453d ago

At the moment you need 2 5090’s just to get an image on the screen so this is all vaporware until proven otherwise.

Andrew33653d ago

The good news is you can just not use it as well.

Christopher53d ago

It's all about choice in the end. But, I would say that calling it 'more realistic' is quite a stretch. It looks like AI art, and that's rarely realistic.

Urrakia3453d ago

All the comments I see are reminding me of how we got to the current state of gaming when microtransactions were first introduced: "It's completely optional guys, we promise! If you don't like it just don't buy it!"

I think we all know how that ended up.

Popsicle53d ago (Edited 53d ago )

I had the same exact thought the first time this was brought up in a separate article about a week ago. Took me straight back to the conversations surrounding “horse armor.” Just don’t buy it they said. Years later, many IPs I previously enjoyed are so infected with monetization schemes that I don’t even consider purchasing them anymore.

DLSS 5 and the like are the same thing wrapped in a different package. History rhymes but many of us never learn from it.

blacktiger53d ago

Biggest Scam. Overrides lighting and shadow. So why keep Ray tracing? It's all a scam to raise graphic card. We now see Nvidia with Microsoft downturn anything against them. Sony is next!
