Deviosity Reviews Brutal Legend

Deviosity writes, "In a way I had no expectations going into Brutal Legend, and in another I'd caught enough word about the producer's creative genius that I had become a bit more anticipatory than I would have liked. Fortunately, nothing on the creativity front disappointed me in the least. It would seem that Tim Schafer is every bit as imaginative as his reputation paints him out to be. It's in the realm of gameplay that I personally his latest release lacking, and given the robust and quirky world that he's created, that's a real shame."

wow i love this game def a 4 or 4.5 on my books

gameplays a blast once you get used to its unique style.

I just found that the real-time strategy mechanics were far too confining, and inherently suffered from the same pitfalls that ail most other titles attempting to translate the RTS style of gameplay to consoles. The controller just isn't up to snuff to handle it. I'm not saying that it *can't* handle it, just that it doesn't.

ok i loved the demo. I had expected it to really suck badly. Wow was i wrong, i actually liked it. but where is the Jump button. if it had a jump button this game would truly rock. I plan on getting it at some point in the very near future because it was entirely to much fun and to me it was funny.

This game...holy heck. Makes me feel old.

I loved that game. Unlocked every song

Liked the aesthetic, tone, humor, and action combat.
Didn't care for the RTS elements.

Never cared to finish it.

Yeah they marketed the game like it was a Heavy Metal GTA-ish adventure. And at the beginning of the game that's what it was. The game fell apart when the half-baked RTS stuff came in. I'd be interested in a reboot or sequel, but just go full action adventure and ditch the RTS. There really is something there with the Heavy Metal theme.

I feel you. I just hacked the game to have infinite life/RTS resources

PS360 gen was special, then again it was still the mid 2000s. Everything went to shite in the teens

I think that was the breaker for Doublefine's creative ambitions and their mixing of genres (which was getting kinda stale). It was a nice to look at but it was more of a tribute to the many things Tim loves, was influenced by and has great admiration for....but the forced RTS stuff was like a drinking buddy's "great idea" that never should have come to light. The game seemed a lot more vast, but it ended pretty quickly too. And Jack Black. As much as I don't care for him as an actor (annoying and requires constant attention), this was absolutely made with him in mind and it worked. I mean come on, Tenacious D? For as Metal as this game was trying to be, even comically, it did little more than meow.
