When the September NPD numbers were released earlier this week, few were surprised to see that the PS3 had ascended up the charts into unfamiliar territory: second place, ahead of the Wii and behind only the virtually untouchable DS. The usual group of market analysts, led by Michael Pachter, predicted as much after Sony announced a price drop, but numbers from one sales month can hardly be interpreted in favor of one company or another.
Still, the question on everyone's mind is this: How does this sudden surge in sales affect Sony's long-term success?

Square Enix launches Final Fantasy X 25th anniversary site, revealing new Nomura art, books, music releases, and merchandise.
Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.
They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

A brutal reset, a smarter story, and a return to what made it great—Mortal Kombat (2011) revived the series.
15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.
Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.
More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.
Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.
All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
Of course they can. And they will.
The first Playstation blew the console market wide open with 105 million consoles sold worldwide.
The second Playstation expanded the console market by another 35 million gamers with the 140 million selling PS2.
The PS2 which came out 9 years ago just sold 140k new consoles in the US alone in September.
Six years from now the PS3 will be doing the same. Down around 99 dollars with an even larger library than the all time greatest console game library, the PS2's.
The PS3 is the third fastest selling console in history. Only the PS2 and Wii have sold at a faster rate worldwide. Astonishing when you consider that the PS3 launched at 600 dollars and cost double the price of the PS2 and Wii at launch.
Sony is in an even stronger position this gen compared to last gen where they created the greatest console in history, the PS2.
PS2 vs PS3
Price
First party dev studios
Graphical power
Online
PSN games
Blu-Ray
Only price is where the PS2 beats the PS3 and that is no longer an issue now that the 299 Slim has matched the PS2 launch price. Everything else the PS3 easily outdoes the 140 million selling PS2.
Sony has built up their dominant first party dev studios ever larger than last gen.
Last gen the PS2,GameCube,and Xbox were all very close to each other in graphical power. Each system had games that were pulling off graphics not see on the other consoles. Both the PS2 and Xbox had the same storage format size.
This gen the PS3 is utterly annihilating the 360 graphically. There's never been another console that has so totally destroyed the competition in graphics in any other gen like the PS3 has the 360. Across the board in every possible graphical category the PS3 is dominating the 360's wimpy and poorly designed graphics hardware: resolution, poly counts, materials, lighting, animation, etc.
The PS3 has free play for all PS3 owners with standard PC gaming like dedicated servers for lagfree online play with gigantic game sizes like 64 for R2 and 256 for the insane MAG. And the wild success of the 8+ million user Home online world that is growing at a gigantic rate.
And the most important, games. Every single franchise that got those 140 million gamers to go out and buy PS2s is on the PS3. And in addition to all those franchises gamers have the incredible innovation and quality of PSN titles along with even more AAA first party exclusives this gen with the PS2.
The only lingering question was what would happen when the Wii dropped in price. That now has been answered. Sales were better but they didn't explode like the PS3 did when it dropped to 299. If the Wii was going to be another PS2 it should have had sales skyrocket at each price cut like the PS2 did each time it dropped in price.
The 360 is no longer relevant anywhere but the US and the UK. Microsoft has pretty much thrown in the towel on competing with Sony and are now trying to retarget the Xbox at the Wii crowd.
Cheaper to lose to Nintendo than it is to Sony for Microsoft.
Sony always wins, baby.
Peter Moore said recently Microsoft will be the first out the gate again. And with him being who he is to make that statement it confirms Natal will release along with an entirely new console. Sure Microsoft has been saying Natal will work with every 360. But what else are they going to say? If they said anything other than that they wouldn't sell jack this year.
Oh, and I'm sure Natal is going to work for 360 too - for the dashboard and about 6 games total until they move completely onto that next system. But like I said, they cannot and will not admit this because it's business.
Anyway it won't really matter because Epic also already said they have the next Unreal engine ready for the "next systems" and we all know they aren't talking about a new Atari.
sony sells systems for the long haul.and support it fully.and it's the same strategy playstation fans have been saying over and over again.it's plain as day because it's not hard to figure out:
**10 million or more systems sold per year for 10 years of production.**
sony allows themselves to recoup their losses on R&D and lets developers make their money as well.not only that,it helps devs make money on previous systems to fund their next gen projects as sony's systems overlap each other.
ps1 helped ps2.ps2 is helping ps3.franchises on ps1,ps2 and ps3 are helping psp.where is psp right now?sitting WELL OVER 50 million.and pspgo is just another version to get sony to that 100 million again.while testing the waters of digital downloads like apple.
sony doesn't have to win as they have already won for themselves.
the best looking games(got d@mn uncharted 2 looked good to the end)
the best high def format(bluray f#cked hd-dvd over and 360 fanboys)
the best group of developers(not ONE of sony's 20+ developers closed)
the best evolution of game engines, motion control, processors, online player counts)
even if nintendo sells the most, sony did what they set out to do with a higher priced product.PSX was a just a testing ground but ps3 SUCCEEDED.

LOL!!!!!!!
Ps3: Hey !! I'll race you guys to a ten year cycle race !!!!
W!!: Nah...not interested...............
360: Lets go !!!!! ( while secretly building XBOX 720 in basement)
so who won????
SO the next guy who brings the next console out first is considered next GEN?????
How about who can last longer this gen?????
What happen to supporting a console or hardware for it's consumer, so they don't have to buy a new one every year. ................. *sighs*
