The game took the basics set forth by the original classic over thirty years ago, and added in a faster pace, a more intense visual design with colorful explosions and tons of enemy ships, and a techno soundtrack. The game added in some new elements to make the experience more frenetic while retaining the pixilated look and charm of the original game. Now, the sequel, Space Invaders Extreme 2, is upon us and launching on the Nintendo DS. While the original Extreme was a thematic departure from the original game, this sequel doesn't change things up very much from its Extreme predecessor, adding in a few Spartan changes and tweaks here and there, but being largely the same game. Still, if you missed out on the original, this is a fine place to start."

It had colored glass over the screen that would change the colors of the aliens as they came closer to the cannon. The cabinet had a joystick to move the cannon left or right and a button to fire. The little alien invaders became instantly recognizable. Even the Jaws-like music during the invasion became an instant classic. Since then several ports and clones have come about, but none were able to capture the same magic until Space Invaders Extreme came out on the PSP and DS. The surprising hit has now garnered a sequel with Space Invaders Extreme 2."

"Overall, the game's aesthetics are excellent and strike an effective balance between old and new elements. Space Invaders Extreme 2 itself is a fine title, and one that should please veterans who've followed the franchise through the years and want to see the updates along with younger players who will probably find enough hooks and twists to keep them coming back for more."
Cool, my girlfriend loves the first game and just recently beat it, looks like i'll be picking this up next week.

Space Invaders Extreme was a prime example of this, with excellent gameplay that was just a few tweaks short of perfection, taking a classic game and finding exactly the right way to twist it into something new and enjoyable. Space Invaders Extreme 2 simply takes this concept and runs further with it, with the end result essentially being an 8-bit version of Rez. This is as awesome as it sounds, and as a result, Space Invaders Extreme 2 is one of the strongest games on the DS system."
