No shyt the Linux OS in the PS3 is outshined by a top of the line Mac, only half the RAM is dedicated to the Linux OS in the PS3. It doesn't make any difference though, the PS3 YDL serves its purpose at a more than reasonable performance rate. It's not like you're going to be running Maya 8 or Photoshop CS 3 on the thing, sheesh.

Wow a "Out of Order Processor" out performing a "In Order Processor" go figure. Console CPU's are stripped down versions streamlined to do a certain task very well. In the case of the PS3, 360 or Wii it's to play games. Not Run Linx like a PC. Thats what PC's are for. Why? Cost!The CPU would cost a lot more to make if it were Out of Order, and that wouldn't benefit the main purpose. Gaming! 1.6 Ghz general purpose PPC

OSX (PPC optimized)

Going up against
Playstation 3
Cell processor (in order PPC w/no SPE utilization.)
256 Mb CPU ram
Fedora Core 6 (access only to PPE)

And the Mac won..... how very scientific lols.

What impressed me is that the PS3 really didn't do poorly at all considering it has 1/4 the available ram and in the memory access test even WASTED the G5 by about 1.5X. Remember kids Baseline is 1000, PS3 has far less memory, Cell isn't even being fully used, It's an "in - order" processor running out of order code, and yet despite not having an optimized OS still benched at 80%+ for most tests and 145%+ for memory access...... I'm quite impressed.

Another reason to buy a ps3, but they forget about the most important, and you all know wut it is, 1,2 3, GAMES!!! all that power. bla bla bla, ur not gonna add windows to ur ps3, its suppose to be a videogame system, when is sony gonna get that even if your consoles its like a computer, it wont be, because its a videogame console, so it needs GAMES!

Asumming that all Sony fans are correct and the cell shouldnt be compared to a relatively "general-purpose" CPU since the PS3 have so many restrictions in terms of memory or what it can do as far as running OS and programs intended for "general-purpose" CPU. I personally wouldn't buy a PS3 to run linux and I can care less as long as it runs the games they way it should. It's a game console after all. But you can't blame people for making comparisons when Sony is being marketting the PS3 as a super computer that can do anything better than any other computer in the market. Well... I can tell you this... expect a lot more comparisons. I think Sony ask for it... by being the first ones to start the comparisons.

this is stupid and old news. this was a rehash of article posted way back in december. people would be seriously deluded to believe that the ps3 was actually a REAL slouch. i really think people who believe that the ps3 is actually slow knows little about technology. folding@home running optimized code shows how fast the ps3 really is. it's all to do with optimisation. every new processor requires some form of optimsation so the fact that the code is running in a crippled form makes this exercise pointless:

360 has reached its limit?, why are devs saying they have just started to show what the 360 can do?, Devs are starting to fully use hole cores of the 360 for specific things like Physics and AI. TI said he's going to use a hole core on AI in Ninga Gainden 2. UbiSoft said they're going to show off some more of the 360's power they have leaned to tap using a hole core on physics, Cliffy B. said GoW 2 will out shine part one, Devs are learning to fully use Multi core processes(not talking a little; like in Xbox arcade game Geometry Wars).

360 is at it's limit is what Sony fanboys say to feel comfort with what they purchased but not devs. So what if a dev would like to take advantage of a sertain things and isn't able to do so due to the devs wanting to overly use somthing. When has any console in history reached it's roof within a year and a half?. lol. Cliffy said the PS3 couldn't play GoW but does that mean the PS3 has reached its limit? no but cliffy did overly use memory to develope the enviroments in GoW.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.
