"Retro Weekend is a new segment from GOS. We will showcase an old school game that some of you may or may not have heard of, or the first game that started a whole franchise. The game we are going to show this week is Ninja Gaiden. You all heard about the games for the Xbox, 360 and now the ps3.
Ninja Gaiden was originally known as Ninja Ryukenden: Legend of the Ninja Dragon Sword in Japan. The arcade game was released in 1988 in North America and Europe and 1989 in Japan. Ninja Gaiden moved to the NES in America in 1989 and then Europe in 1991. It became a huge hit and went on to become the series that we all know it to be today."

The Ninja Gaiden series has spanned nearly three decades across different creators, so of course the timeline is convoluted. But maybe Restart can simplify it enough to get you going in Ragebound and Ninja Gaiden IV without much trouble.

Take a step back through time and discover the history of the legendary Ninja Gaiden series!
Love the NES trilogy! Great gameplay, design, story, cinematics, characters, music! Total package.
The original NES game is still.one of the hardest games I've almost beaten in my life I believe I was on the second final boss using original hardware and carts no save states but I could never finish it
Man, I finally braved trying Master Ninja in Ninja Gaiden 2 Black and… man, I suck, lol. I really want to try for the platinum because I love the game so much, but yeesh…
I remember Ninja Gaiden Black and how awesome the hype and support was around for that. The changes from the base game and the world rankings we could check out in the menus. Played through the OG game once and Black at least twice.
Never played the original 2D games but I'm excited to go through 2 Black soon.
I was there as a young boy playing the first Ninja Gaiden in The arcade. It was awesome for the time! I’ve played every one skins and on every one of those systems. And here I am, as a 50 year old man giddy with joy playing through the most recent release, with more on the way! Heck yeah it’s a great series!

Many of you who have already played Rise of the Ronin may have noticed some elements of our previous works such as Ninja Gaiden and Nioh from Team Ninja. Today we’re excited to share some of the behind-the-scenes development stories for the first time. Plus we share details on an upcoming game update.
