Microsoft considering making Zune services available to Apple users

For all you who still believe Microsoft is still consumed with the impossible task of beating the iPod with the Zune, here's more proof that Zune's future is all about software and services and not hardware.

Microsoft is considering whether it should port the Zune software and services to other platforms, including Apple's. There's no guarantee that the Redmondians will end up doing this - or timetable as to when this could happen - but it's one of many strategies under active consideration.

They should. The Mac platform is a decent chunk of the overall computer market.

Apple makes iTunes for Windows, so why wouldn't you return the favour?

That would be great. Unfortunately, I don't subscribe to ZunePass, but I love having choices.

I also don't like to be tied to a specific device service.

Try and even take on Apple if they wont even release the mp3 play in other countries?? is the Zune only usable by the american public???

It's available to people in America and Canada. Despite it has multilevel language support. I have a few friends in Germany who got their Zune's imported. I'm sure it will make it's way noticeably in other countries.

I own a Zune 4GB and now I just got the Zune HD. I've never looked back on the ipod since.

He had trouble with it here for a while =P still, good to see MS opening up a LITTLE bit to the competition

Regarding Microsoft not going for hardware, just software.

Just because Microsoft will spread its services to other platforms, doesn't mean they still don't want their hardware to dominate. All it means is that Microsoft will get money from you any way they can, whether it's their hardware (360, Zune) or their software (Windows, Mobile Windows, MS Office for the Mac, etc.).

It's these software lead that has made Microsoft so successful with their console, why wouldn't they do the same thing with their other hardware?

I love the smell of desperation in the morning!

This would be perfect, I have a mac and I prefer the zune store and zune over itunes. I actually called zune regarding this issue, asked them if they will bring zunes to mac.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit11d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing11d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9211d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
