Heavy Rain is one of the biggest PS3 titles for 2010. Utilizing new gameplay concepts never witnessed in gaming before, Quantic Dream is really trying to deliver something entirely different from mainstream games.

It was in Indigo Prophecy...

Heavy Rain isn't meant for the immature bots that inhabit the failbox. It's meant for people who want a new experience and not just more shooters. It's meant to be unique, and I'll be buying it day 1.

WIIIS16067d ago

I don't know enough about Heavy Rain to say for sure which audience it attempts to speak to, but if your post is anything to go by, it is not an encouraging sign of the fanbase's level of maturity, that's for sure.

PS3, always innovative

the doo-doo box 3sh!tty, always flopping out the arsehole like a piece of sh!t

ginsunuva6067d ago (Edited 6067d ago )

Ah ha! That's what the producer meant when he said 1/3 of the game is QTEs!!

Troll_Police6067d ago

We should all support innovation and creativity like Heavy Rain. Quantic Dream could have just made another shooter you know.

MastaMold6067d ago

Sony always releases unique games like this, thats y i support Sony Playstation

always have something different to play on my PS3

day 1 purchase for me, can't fuking wait

MattyF6067d ago

True that. Everything about this game looks awesome. Plus with multiple story lines based on the events you make happen in the game opens the door for so many playthroughs.

Immortal Kaim6067d ago

I actually have a vested interest in the success of Heavy Rain, this game is certainly the nail in the coffin for those who do not believe games can be an art form. These are the types of mature experiences I have been crying out for, I really do hope it does well, so as to encourage growth in the industry.

WIIIS16067d ago

Afrika is another example of Sony's fine attempt at creativity and uniqueness, they just have to keep trying till they get it right.

KiRBY30006067d ago

my most anticipated game for 2010 with The Last Guardian.

WenisWagon6067d ago

Heavy Rain is simply one huge Quick Time Event. That is all the game consists of.

jetlian6067d ago

this is why ps3 gets talked about so much and in a negative way. what does HR bring new to gaming? context buttons, qte's, story, choices/outcomes. Everything in this game has been done before. Even the hype has been done before.

All this gonna do is bring attention to the game and once 90% of gamers find out that theres no real gameplay its gonna get slammed.

afrika being ground breaking, innovative? what about pokemon snap, endless ocean and whatever other picture taking games in the past 15 years.

i bet some of you think gow invented 3d brawlers and qtes

Blaze9296067d ago

Now...why is that everyone wants to support Quantic Dream with Heavy Rain but no one wanted to give a damn about them and support them with Indigo Prophecy?

This has always been a day one purchase for me becuase I actually did go out and buy Indigo Prophecy day 1 and loved the game and Quantic Dream since then. I wonder how many people even heard of them before Heavy Rain. Shame

Oh and the ones above giving props to Sony...this is Quantic Dream's game and creation, NOT Sony's. Get it right

HolaTarola6067d ago (Edited 6067d ago )

You get it right man, Quantic Dream is having A LOT of helping by Sony's devs team, you know, teaching them how to utilize the power of the PS3 to make those awesome graphics, giving them the tools to create that awesome game.

Sony is publishing the game, spending a lot of money on it, who else would support a project this different? Microsoft? not unless it was a FPS.

You aaaalways defend Microsoft right? well, I always see you give them props for Gears, Mass Effect and L4D, all of them being games by thirds partys.

Get it RIGHT!

rockleex6067d ago

You automatically think it is QTE, just because you see buttons being displayed on the screen.

Is it QTE when you play the quarterback in Madden NFL and buttons are displayed on the screen to show you which receivers you can pass the ball to?

No.

Heavy Rain's regular game play consists of the player using the character to interact with it's surroundings.

While the player has full control of the character, the game offers countless possible varieties of interactions with the environments, all done by different buttons and analog stick movements as displayed on-screen.

In simpler terms, Heavy Rain is a much more sophisticated experience compared to Madden NFL's quarterback gameplay segments.

But to be honest, there are a few QTE sections in Heavy Rain just like most other action games. But the game is not comprised of mainly QTE like many would like to believe.

Face Palm6067d ago (Edited 6067d ago )

Name me one game that has gameplay similar to Heavy Rain.

Also, name me one game that gives you countless options that make every play-through's story and outcome vastly different.

And name me a game that's whole package is just like Heavy rain since according to you "it's all been done before".

I'll be awaiting your lame fanboy response since you can't give me a valid answer for the criteria I listed above.

aaron58296067d ago

Name me a game that has a gameplay which is quite like Heavy Rain.

And.. name me a game.. which is so unique and has never been done in this current gen.

I'm curious to know...

And nobody said Afrika was "groundbreaking" ...

He was stressing the variety of games... the different genres that we get.

jetlian6067d ago (Edited 6067d ago )

wllls1 said "Afrika is another example of Sony's fine attempt at creativity and uniqueness, they just have to keep trying till they get it right." what part of innovating did youy miss? they didn't create it and its not unique!!

face palm I never said all things in this game were used in a single game! i said they have all been done before. As in no new techniques. but a game with varying ends "dead rising" but the outcome is different. qtes plenty of games use these.

rocklee sais "Is it QTE when you play the quarterback in Madden NFL and buttons are displayed on the screen to show you which receivers you can pass the ball to?

rocklee does this game play like a 3rd person shooter or have any realtime action? from whats been shown the answer is no!! and key to what you said was the game Offers countless varities of interaction"
lets go to the scene in the store. why doesn't the detective just throw something at the thief and make a dash to hit him? or better yet why can't you choose how you wanna handle the game? becuz its scripted and the combat is too

add more to it.. explain what makes this game innovative?

Redempteur6067d ago (Edited 6067d ago )

@blaze
i follow quantic since nomad soul.
There is just talent in that team.

@jetlian

Sorry but you missed the point of heavy rain .
i'm sorry in that scene (in the shop ) , there are in fact countless way to manage that . But how to manage that .. do you have the game to be a duke nukem forever .. You can't expect a team to just think of anything available. Instead you are given at least 5 to 6 choices ..affecting THE story and the fact that your character can stay alive or not. That's right You can't expect a game to do anything but Heavy rain try to give you enough choices to have impact in your story . where was the last time a bad decision locked available characters ? The last game serie alive using this is fire emblem ...(mass effect does it too but both games keep their main characters alive ..NOT in heavy rain case )

"Why can't i pick a bottle of milk and go rob the shop with the guy ?"
because this is not fallout
because it's NOT the point of the game

Qte are not new but it's still the best way to deal with unexpected moments.. And the game is not a QTE fest ...you are in control ...Some of you are forgetting THAT .Plus , there are bad qte and good ones ...

Bad qte are taking the control out of your hands ( WET , sonic unleashed) but in heavy rain case , even after making a choice , you can still be in control.

So What make heavy rain so spécial ?
- It's made by a talented team
- It's NOT action focused
- They use many different storry telling techniques ( see indigo prophecy for a rough draft)
- They have the money to finish their project so expected a full blown game
- again good MOTION CAPTURED animation
- The thee points above made it feel like a movie. A interactive movie
- Graphics are good.
- Replayability At maximum since either many characters can die at multiple time and the story to continue .

SO YES it's original ( what other game like that is there ??? )

jetlian6066d ago (Edited 6066d ago )

what to say. i don't think you understand much. mass effect has moments were depending on what you say a person can live or die. And the story continues without them. now does it have 4-5 choices no!! but 2-3 yes.

My whole point is HR doesn't have realtime fighting. Shop scenes once again. Can you aim and throw something.. nope! But you can sneak up and bash him in the head!! you can but if you fail then you go into conversation mode. which has a few possiblities depending on what you say.

Yea you control them when walking and telling them to pick stuff but thats it for player interaction. Its a movie with multipe paths.

the talented team is debatable!
not action focused... I can see that. Most men like action!
story already covered up above
whats money have to do with finishing a game? hows that a positive?
the rest i do agree with

Ehem...In my post:"this is Quantic Dream's game and creation, NOT Sony's"

What does being human instruction manuals have to do with them 9Sony) CREATING Heavy Rain? So Hola, you were saying? Again, Get it Right...oh and learn to read.

Also:

"You aaaalways defend Microsoft right? well, I always see you give them props for Gears, Mass Effect and L4D, all of them being games by thirds partys."

ROFL SHOW me this these comments. I don't even talk about Mass Effect, never even played the damn game. L4D is Valve's game, why would I give props to Microsoft for it who charges for DLC on it? You must have me mistaken lol. Fail.

Redempteur6065d ago

Sad ..you missed the entire point of heavy rain ..

Never you'll see a private investigator use his gun and shout people in the back ... EVEN in a robbery ... that's STUPID.

your critics are jokes ... you have missed the point of that game.

-Quantic game made 2 games so far
nomad soul and indigo
Both were well recieved . Their third game is HIGHLY anticipated
So yeah .. they are considered to have talent since they did great for their games so far ..( HR is following that path ).
-Action games are not the only thing in games ... Go play killzone or halo ..but don't try to make heavy rain something it's NOT.
-having money ensures that they have ressources to polish their game .. See infamous ? See killzone ? See uncharted ? There is a point where you can expect A Top AAAAAA game if you know a talented studio is working with unlimited ressources and support.
See also : Last guardian , Gran turismo 5

So ..please Go play god of war or ninja gaiden if you want some action ...Leave heavy rain alone

jetlian6065d ago

but what about holding up the theif? who says you have to shoot him? why not talk him into holding his hands up? or giving warning shots to scare him? the point is you can do anything in realtime like that

Please stop comparing video games to movies

"Many video games catch not only great commercial attention but remarkable critical attention as well. We have seen games like Heavy Rain, The Last of Us Part II, and even entries in the Metal Gear series described as fantastic interactive experiences, even heralded in the same way as Hollywood's greatest films.

I would suggest that not only is this an unfair comparison but also a harmful one. Video games, by their very nature, are an intricately different medium and should be weighed against one another rather than another form of media," Phillip writes for GF365.

Yes, please stop. They're better than most hollywood drivel nowadays.

BLAKHOODe2010d ago

I think Hollywood films will becoming increasingly more like video games in the future, especially as the world embraces the "new normal" from the pandemic. It makes sense, as games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales showcase just how realistically we're reaching in graphical capabilities, as well as showcase extreme action sequences in spectacular ways. And as time goes by, it'll get easier and cheaper to produce such "art", as well as create new star "actors" that never age, never die, never complain, never gets involved in scandals, etc. Technology is amazing and we're only just getting a taste of what it'll eventually be.

sourOG2010d ago

No. Some games are like movies.

medman2010d ago (Edited 2010d ago )

No. For the money spent, a quality game provides far more entertainment value than a quality movie. Especially when looking at what is going on in the world, and how a studio can attempt to pilfer from consumers by charging 30 dollars for Mulan via streaming. Ridiculous. There is no comparison....games all day.
