No Mercy was awesome is was the culmination of the series from Nitro-Revenge-wrestlemaina-no mercy. Those games were just better and better.

Good list though I wasnt so hot on the Banjo game, I would put mario kart or mario tennis. Though Mario Tennis is the only one still to this day that gets played regularly.

Oh Smash Brothers I loved that game everything about it. Funny thing if you watch the video well just the intro the person hasnt unlocked Luigi yet.

don't know if you're from the US (I assume you are) but just to correct you, Pilot Wings 64 and Super Mario 64 were the only 2 available ON release day here.... Wave Race 64, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Killer Instinct Gold, Cruis N USA and others came out a couple months later for Christmas that year...Wave Race released on Nov. 15th, and the console released on Sept. 25, 1996...Sad, but Nintendo only had 2 games at launch, that would be so scoffed at now, although, the 2 they had were 2 of the top games the console ever saw.

Perfect Dark was great Id never argue against it. With the Bots the weapons the ability to select every weapon and not just a set of weapons and the ability to fall between levels it was fantastic. Though it didnt have the charm of Goldeneye it did it first hard better overall levels IMO. Just by the time Perfect Dark came so many poeple had already played Goldeneye to death it just didnt have the same charm.

Thats why I feel it get slighted.

lol I loved Blast Corps, I think that's a love-hate kind of game though. I can see some people getting frustrated on how to move certain items to keep the truck from blowing up

Smash Bros. - Favorite fighting series. Why don't they make a SSB-like game for PS3/360 using similar controls.

Goldeneye - The Godfather of console FPS's. I always watch this movie when given the chance because of the game.

Banjo - Great game, but not a must play IMO. Replace it with Mario Kart or Wave Race

Super Mario 64 - Read the second word in the title.

They have a game similar to Smash Brothers on the XBLA. I forgot what it's called, but the concept is exactly the same, except you have guns.

Picked it up on ebay 5 years ago for $100. In fact, I have about 50 sealed N64 games...all the biggest titles. Spent a ton of money on that. ugh

Very true. but when they are only allowing 5 games..I doubt 5 people bought JFG lol (I kid, i kid). It was a very under rated game and correct me if I'm wrong, one of the only 3rd person adventures of that gen?

Surprised not to see MK64 on there myself. But as long as Ocarina of Time is there, I'm content with the list..Banjo coulda been replaced by Wave Race 64 IMO.

They were going to make a sequel, if only the company hadn't nearly imploded.

Or at least that's what I tell myself every night as I dab my tears with my copy of Metal Arms and cry myself to sleep.

Indeed, one would have hoped that since it came from Rare, and it got a not-insubstantial marketing push (I remember actually receiving in the mail a VHS tape that was basically a half-hour long commercial for Jet Force and Donkey Kong 64) it would have received the same kind of respect that Goldeneye and Perfect Dark enjoy. Sadly, this is not the case.

Which is really unfortunate, since from a programming standpoint, it's an amazing game. I don't mean graphically, I mean in the way that the enemies behave. They take cover, attack in tandem, try to flank you, run away and then try to sneak up on you, or even sometimes drop their weapons and surrender.

Enemy AI like that is such a rare thing to see in a game, even from the most cutting-edge of today's shooters, which still have difficulties in getting that stuff right. That a *cartridge*-based game was able to do those things is just... mind-blowing.

The N64 is the only "old" console I still play. Goldeneye, Ocarina of Time , Mario 64. All classics.

Did anyone noticed that none of the usual fanboys commented on this. Probably means that they're all under 20yo and never got to play anything but the 360 or the PS3.

I beat them all except banjo kazooie...never really cared for that title. Zelda: Orcarina of Time is like my number one....i think banjo should be replaced by Majoraz mask.

At least if your going to be too lazy to write a real article then at least to a top 10. Top 5 is just infinitely lame. Basicly rank the first 5 games you remember on the system, search you tube. Write 5 second snippet for each one. Now i'm a game JERNALIST!

His top 5 NES is even more lazy. You could at least do a top 20 for nes. The system had several hundred titles! I'm sure the author thought he was really digging when he made battletoads number 5.
