Rumor: Sony pursuing timed exclusivity for Alpha Protocol?

Release date inconsistencies on the titles official website reveal that Sony may be trying to acquire timed exclusivity for the game.

Would be a good idea if true. Because if Mass Effect is still exclusive to 360/PC (which I doubt), it would be in Sony's and possibly Sega's best interests to make it a timed exclusive on PS3. Also maybe Sony is pissed with Sega about the recent leaks, and they have to give it as a timed exclusive?

zeeshan6069d ago

I doubt Sega and Sony will talk exclusive deals because of some leaked information. No company leaks more info than Sony themselves. Their BIGGEST news is mostly leaked MONTHS before it materializes. So I don't think they'll talk "exclusive" in return of any information leak. However, there is a good chance that guys at Sony loved what they saw and want to secure a time exclusive deal to push hardware sales even further after the holiday season (assuming this game will launch after holidays). Overall, if it is true, IT IS A GOOD NEWS for us PS3 lovers :)

leeger6069d ago

or it could also mean that the PS3 version will be release at a later date compared to the 360/PC version

zeeshan6069d ago

^ Haha, yeah, could be! I didn't think of that!

SullyDrake6069d ago

That's just stupid dude.

"Hey Sega, we wanna put down $10,000,000 to ensure that PS3 users can play Alpha Protocol 6 months later."

"But it's already coming out day one on both... Yeah, thanks for the offer Sony, we'd like to take you up on that..."

Tony P6069d ago

Update added to that... "It has since been updated to read as Spring, 2010 for all 3 platforms."

Anyway, I don't see how "it looks like Sony fans may be in a bit of luck". Hard dates are good. Unclear PS3 dates haven't exactly been harbingers of fortune this gen for the PS3. I hope it's just human error.

AridSpider6069d ago

bu bu but sony doesnt pay for exclusives....micro$oft is the only evil company who does. We all hate Micro$oft.

/sarcasm

skeletonss6069d ago (Edited 6069d ago )

wont go multi. Ill take any and all bets.. AND why is this a good thing if sony does it and its bad when MS does it. The people on this site are unreal.

Blaze9296069d ago

You know how it is on this website....

WMW6069d ago (Edited 6069d ago )

that would have been a valid comment if you wrote it when people were saying sony doesn't pay for exclusives but now it just sounds dumb its like asking what time it is an i tell you 1 o'clock then 2 hours later you say i'm wrong its 3 o'clock.

Christopher6069d ago (Edited 6069d ago )

I wouldn't mind, but I'm having some doubts since Sony's testing guys came back to them and said that it didn't feel like an RPG.

I would MUCH RATHER they put some effort in getting Mass Effect 1 & 2 on the PS3 as well as all future BioWare games.

Shaner_Bock6069d ago

I'm inclined to agree with you. I don't think most people realize that Spring lasts until late June. It looked more like a Dragon Age: Origins scenario to me, with the PS3 version of the game coming out a few weeks after the Xbox 360 and PC versions.

Noctis Aftermath6069d ago

@cgoodno: i agree with you, not to mention i prefer the setting of the mass effect series, this does look good though.

DevastationEve6069d ago

The Mass Effect trilogy is still exclusive to Xbox 360 and PC. But if it manages to go to PS3 expect that they'd have to work on getting the original ported over.

So it's not impossible, just not all that probable.

Christopher6069d ago

^^^

Yeah, they'd have to pretty much do both on one disc type of thing. I think Dragon Age: Origins will determine the possibility of bringing that to the PS3, though. I've got mine pre-ordered, I hope it sells well enough to encourage BioWare to move all of their IPs to the PS3.

stuntman_mike6069d ago

why are you guys talking about bioware and mass effect, this game is made by obsidian (yes they done sequals to some bioware games) they're not the same company. and i doubt they would let obsidian make ports of mass effect on ps3.

RememberThe3576069d ago

I suppose it makes sense, but I don't see anything about Alpha Protocol that puts it on Mass Effects level.

Christopher6069d ago

Because Alpha Protocol is essentially a port of Mass Effect to a modern setting focused on espionage rather than space marines. But, more importantly, because the two games are similar in what they offer other than setting and lack of party features in Alpha Protocol that instead of Sony getting timed exclusivity, some of us would rather Sony work to get similar games not currently available on the console on it.

morganfell6069d ago

I reported this ridiculous story yesterday. This story from the same source has been proven to be false:

stuntman_mike6065d ago

it may copy its control scheme and rpg lite settings but it wont touch mass effects level of gamingship.

but lets hope im wrong it would be nice to have a different settting rpg.

Ggame6069d ago

If that true, i'll be happy but i'm seeing that all 3 platforms are decided to release on Spring 2010.

MetalGearRising6069d ago (Edited 6069d ago )

Desperate and sad goes to show how pathetic Sony has become.

gaffyh6069d ago

Wait a sec, so it's not pathetic when MS does it, but it is pathetic when Sony does it?

Pennywise6069d ago

You are so stupid. Sony fights back and they are desperate.

iSynysteRx-6069d ago

"Desperate and sad"

lol!

How ironic coming from you, You need a hobby kid.

lh_swe6069d ago

If anything this is fair play at this point, GTA IV DLC was nothing short of a cheapshot, Fallout DLC etc thats all fine and dandy then?

spongeboob6069d ago

Your comments show how clueless you are. Does a 50 dollar rebate 2 weeks after a price cut mean anything to you. Your a moron and probably 12 which would explain how moronic you are. Maybe you will be smarter after you get some pubes.

LukaX236069d ago

I wouldn't mind, this game looks SICK.

MetalGearRising6069d ago

Microsoft always does that we all know that its expected. But Sony pursuing timed exclusivity is DESPERATE and you know that so don't deny it.

lh_swe6069d ago

After the sales, games, slim, improving PSN?

If you haven't noticed both companies have been aiming for the balls since the git-go kid. MS has just been prevailing at being the most d***ish until now.

saimcheeda6069d ago

thats just stupid, how do u figure that out? so if its an expected move its smart but if its not expected its desperate?

One of the few 7th gen game that I'll full heartedly support for a remake.
Its a very unique RPG and deserves its faults fixed the 2nd time.

TheNamelessOne691d ago

I would be so for this. Alpha Protocol is the definition of a diamond in the rough. Before being acquired by Microsoft, Obsidian presented their ideas for a sequel, multiple times, but were always shot down. Even something simple like a remaster is very unlikely.

ZeekQuattro691d ago

Still have a physical copy for my PS3. Clunky at times but I had a lot of fun with it back in the day.

TheColbertinator691d ago

Had some issues but that game was brilliant.

all the games in the above list are bang on. this is the only reason we need backwards compatibility and physical presense of games for the upcoming future, no matter what.

Honorable mention to the excellent Driveclub, one of the best racing games of all-time and one of my favourite games ever.

melons817d ago

yes! incredible rain effects; so good to drive along in rain with your Spotify playlist blaring

Skuletor817d ago

I really wanted a MotorStorm using the same engine, Driveclub is easily one of the best looking games on PS4 and I'm surprised they didn't even give it a PS4 Pro patch.

ravens52817d ago

Yes indeed. May just install it on my PS5. You know, physical copy and all.

monkey602817d ago

I adored Driveclub and the Bike expansion. I also loved Motorstorm. Evolution shutting down was a crime

Skuletor817d ago

Terry_B817d ago (Edited 817d ago )

wow...I have all of them except the Nintendo ones either in physical or digital version.

Also..Deadpool the Game is missing on that list.
