
Fans of Gabriel Knight may not immediately recognize the name Peter Lonsdale, but those who have played The Beast Within: A Gabriel Knight Mystery, the second game in the Gabriel Knight trilogy series, will surely recognize this work.
More than a decade has passed since the release of The Beast Within: A Gabriel Knight Mystery, ACG is privileged to have an opportunity to interview Lonsdale about his memories of working at Sierra On-Line on this game. In the interview, Lonsdale speaks to them about his approach in film editing for the game, his experience of working with the game's cast and crew, his favourite scenes from the game, and his philosophy on video games as an artistic medium.
Carl Williams writes, "What do you do when you are Sierra On-Line, a company known for pushing the envelope, and it is the dawn of a new age in computing? CD-ROM technology was picking up, becoming cheaper and more widespread with computer gamers. Basically, 1995 was probably the first year that publishers could actually turn a profit in this new format. Sierra On-Line was in a nice position at this time. They had the success of the first Gabriel Knight game to build off of and this opportunity to do something completely new. They took adventure games into the full motion video (FMV) realm with The Beast Within- A Gabriel Knight Mystery."
the first Gabriel Knight is a classic but I couldn't get into 2 or 3
I understand they tried to take the genre forward but they just didn't work out.
I wish TellTail would make a new Gabriel Knight game
