now home is freezing on ps3? you got games freezing, home freezing...whats next...movies?

@trip: do you think maybe...just maybe...I never heard of the home freezing issue until right now? So my comment is valid in the sense of home is freezing now along with people who have games freezing.

I have not tried the new update on mine and will wait till there are more reports or resolutions. Same goes for the game freezing. Since updating I have not played a disc based game but I do play ones I dl from psn as well as demos. No problem there.

You want to say I am trolling when maybe you just are assuming. Maybe you mistook the last blurb about the movies as a trolling effort but it is a legitimate question. Since I have not been playing any disc games or movies. will movie playback be effected like some people with game freezing? No joke...honest question there.

If you know more than I please share.

Yawn...

Go away troll.

Edit: Home servers are completely packed with people. Obviously there is no problem with the update.

Amazing update. Can't believe just what a massive success Home is. Everyone knew it was going to be huge. But not this amazing. Over 8 million users already. Massive support from all the major publishers and developers.

To think that instead of this amazing online gaming world we could be stuck with retarded little Nintendo Mii ripoffs. Those 50 dollar a year PSN online fees really are worth it.

Wait, PSN is free...

With both PS3s, the 80GB MotorStorm and Slim, I've had XMB freezes, game freezes (Uncharted once and inFamous once), Home freezes (every time like in the article) and internet browser freezes. However, deleting/reinstalling Home fixed my freezing issue (also cut login speed down by 66%), no game or XMB freezes in weeks and very few internet browser freezes. Mind you, my Home issues were a couple weeks ago and I've still no issues with Home to this date.

There are many possibilities as to why people are experiencing this. Internet connection (switch to wired to test) or heat can cause a freeze (oxymoronic, right?) Perhaps files in the system software have become corrupted, which rebuilding database in maintenance menu could fix that. Also, there could be an issue with their hard drive.

Hopefully if anyone is really having problems I was able to give insight to you.

is there some type of defrag for the ps3? I have deleted so much stuff and downloaded other stuff that maybe it would be time to defrag. Can the hdd be removed and defragged by a pc? Maybe not windows but what about a linux pc?

I generally apply the updates when they get announced but something has been keeping me from going to 3.01 as 3.00 is fine for the games I play from the hdd. Like I said before, I have not been playing any discs (games/movies) and mine is an 80gb motorstorm edition. Yes it is paranoia that is keeping me from even attempting to play a disc because of others who report issues (60gb and 80gb units).

If I dont try it I will never know if I will be affected. Home would give me problems sometimes when I would go on but I havent been on since batman aa was released and I got an invite to my friends batcave. I like to update for the new stuff but this is something I hadnt even heard if there were home issues in 1.3 so my first post can be taken incorrectly. It is all perception. People read it how they want instead of how it is meant.

If it freezes on me then I will do as the article says but I would really love to defrag my hdd as I am sure it has bits and pieces all over the platters.

edit: i am not entirely sure but there have been a few stories here about gamers having game freezing issues since 3.00 came out. Then the release of 3.01 was made. Seems some are saying it happens on the older 60 and 80gb skus. I am surprised you have not seen them. They have been on the front page a few times.

This link tells you how to access the system's recovery menu, allowing you to restore default file settings, rebuild from a corrupted database or even reinstall your current firmware. As for a straight-up defrag, that option isn't available, however the other options fix most of the problems. I've never tried to set up the HDD to a PC for a defrag, but when I took it to an IT specialist to reformat, their computers had difficulty acknowledging the HDD was even there.

By the way, what is this problem people with 60GB and 80GBs have been worrying about playing any disc games lately?

Redempteur6097d ago

i believe the ones who had problems are the ones who did not come into home for a long time .. they had a lot to do ..that's why they need to rebluid the database too ..

my update worked withouts problems ...

Snoogins6097d ago

Nah, it's most likely a case of "Sh!+ happens." A couple weeks ago when I tried to log into Home, I noticed an abnormal period of time between clicking the Home icon to the boot-up screen (45-50 seconds), and when I would get into Home I would freeze every time. Deleted Home, reinstalled and the boot took 9 seconds, which is a huge difference, and absolutely no freezing. All of this pre-v1.30.

We've been locked out of our Home in other words.

FrankDrebin6097d ago (Edited 6097d ago )

Home freezes for me but caused other problems for some friends of mine. One lost all of his saved games after a freeze. Every single game save...gone.

Another friend, had to unplug his system due to freeze, when he fired the console back up yellow lights of doom.

These problems are getting out of hand. This is the 3rd Sony console to die amongst my friends in the last 6 months.

I have a 360 as well and it has died 4 times since its launch. Haha Luckily, my Sony is still going but this weird glitches and problems are making me worried. Not to mention watching my friends systems die and Sony not willing to fix them.

At least MS has fixed my console each and every time, even after all these years.

If your friends ps3 locks up in the future, I hope he tries to reset it with the front power switch. You can lock up a hard drive if you remove power when it's still active. I lost a computer hard drive during a power failure and I assume a ps3 would be the same.

I have tried home 3 times and it froze every time on the initializing screen. Everything else is golden but I guess I will reinstall home.

BenCrazy4246096d ago

@ the troll,
Somebodies going to lose some of their bubbles.

Back on topic, I had the same problem. What you have to do is delete home and reinstall it. It is the same thing the article said but learned it first on the playstation forums.

you guys have the best ones. RROD,E74 and disc scratching

monkey nuts6097d ago (Edited 6097d ago )

It should initiate it automatically, when its at the point where it needs to be done. My old 60gb did after around a year of heavy use. At the time I didn't have a clue what it was and feared the worst, but on the surface it just appeared to reset folder tags and such if my memory is correct.

Nitrowolf26097d ago

blobbing off that this is not happening, i can say it is. Not to me but 2 of my buddies have told me its happening and freezes at the Intializing screen.
But anyway im loving this update. So i notice universal game launching and wen i tried to launch RSV6 2 It just goes through the game like normal. Is this normal? cause it ask how many players and reservation. I thought it was suppose to bring you directly to the online part?

whothedog6097d ago

I'm not sure but I think there is two different types of game launching in Home. I read that on the playstation blog I believe. Check it out man!

Snoogins6097d ago

Tell your friends to reinstall Home, and if that doesn't work, to rebuild the database through the maintenance menu. I hope it helps.

The update is nice and gives everything a more interesting look. I noticed the ocean in the Harbour Studio has a more Caribbean clear-blue look to it. I switched to 12GB cache and don't notice a difference, unfortunately.

whothedog6097d ago

yep just tried to log on twice and freezes..... NICE UPDATE!

whothedog6097d ago

Update.

Delete and reinstall, took about 10 min at most and now its working fine.

Thanks for the article Nick.

So, I Finally Played Home

I recently published an article about beating my Steam backlog by getting organised and the first game I’ve completed with this new approach is Home.

I chose Home not because of its production values or reviews, but because, well, it’s short. I needed a game to start my new approach on the right foot and read that Home takes less than two hours to beat.

Whatever my reasons for finally installing Home, I found it to be an enjoyable yet flawed title.
