Screenshot Comparison: Uncharted 2 vs. Crysis

Split-Screen: "Uncharted 2: Among Thieves has received nearly god-like acclaim if the onslaught of professional reviews is to be believed. Join us as we see how the current king of PS3 games stands up to the titan of graphics-whore first person shooters, Crytek's Crysis.

this is flaimbait for PC gamers just sayin, I have nothing against them just so you know

DasBunker6082d ago

uncharted 2 looks amazing.. but c' mon we all know PCs are more powerful.. why dont you try to compare it to other consoles games?!.. oh wait..

fishd6082d ago

Very different style,One aim for photorealism the other one aim for a vibrant, cartoony look

Panthers6082d ago

SOME PCs are more powerful. I know my PC would not be able to run Crysis at that level, or UC2 for that matter.

JsonHenry6082d ago

This is not really a fair comparison. But I gotta say that UC2 looks fantastic regardless of whether or not Crysis looks better or not.

marinelife96082d ago

When PS3 games come out they get compared to Crysis or real life.

When Wii games come out they get compared to 360 games.

TK4216082d ago

The animations make Uncharted look so good.

Elaine Benes6082d ago

This is past "stupidity", its now bordering "pathetic", and closing in on "desperate".

Consoldtobots6082d ago

honestly the only thing Crysis has over UC2 is resolution, texture sizes and memory. That being said IMO UC2 is light years beyond Crysis in what it actually accomplishes on screen. Crysis is for spec whores UC2 is for gamers.

stevenhiggster6082d ago (Edited 6082d ago )

This is a bit stupid, they are both games with guns in them. Thats where the similarity ends.
Why don't they compare it to what Crysis would look like running on a PC that cost £250 ? And lets see what kinda frame rate they get too.

Strikepackage Bravo6082d ago

now I have heard plenty of you PS3 fans claim PS3 has the best graphics in gaming, period, I think even IGN or Gametrailers claimed some crap like that once.

You guys also claimed the Cell is FAR more powerful than any measly intel or AMD chip. But now that we see side by side screens of Crysis making Uncharted look like a PS2 game, you claim this is not fair to compare??? What gives guys?

stevenhiggster6082d ago

Behave yourself Strike.
Look at the resolution the guy claims to have taken those screens at. Even a muppet knows they are purely pretty screen grabs. I don't imagine there are many PC's that could actually run the game at that resolution. Certainly not with anything like a playable frame rate. And anyway, Crysis is the ONLY game on any platform that looks better than any PS3 exclusive.

ia_studio6082d ago

Where did they get this 1080p screens of uncharted?

thewhoopimen6082d ago

I was about to remark the exact same thing. I'm sure it behooves many a fanboy that the only titles pushing the graphics envelopes these days come from the humble console lol. Frankly I find the people harping crysis amusing. Is there anything else?

PROFIT6082d ago (Edited 6082d ago )

que "empire strikes back" melody

anyways, consoles and pc's each have their games.

I, personally couldnt live without either.

@1.10: well, by your way of thinking...that certainly makes the 360 look like ps1.

Tachyon_Nova6082d ago

Uncharted 2 is probably the best looking PS3, make that console, game to date. Killzone 2 has better quality almost across the board, but UC2 looks better.

But don't compare it to Crysis, it's an unfair comparison, nothing on the PS3, not even CryEngine 3 games will be comparable to Crysis. Even if they do manage to come close to Crysis, by then Crysis 2 will be out, and will set the bar even further out of reach. This isn't an attack on the PS3, it's a very powerful piece of machinery, particularly given its price. But it's just stupid to compare console games to PC games, although the price difference between a gihe-end PC + 1080p monitor and a PS3 + 720 TV isn't really as large as people think.

@ piroh: Are you really trying to tell me that only hardcore PC fans can tell the difference between Crysis and UC2? Get real.

@ People saying UC2 is second best lookign game period: I disagree. Far Cry 2 looks pretty poor on consoles, but it is better on PC than UC2.

Syronicus6081d ago

I would like you to dig deep and find us all a few quotes from anybody here that ever said such things. Then, I will point at those quotes and call whoever they came from a stupid fanboy. Those allegations are false and you know it. Only an idiot would say those things and only a troll would make them up. So which is it?

SaiyanFury6081d ago (Edited 6081d ago )

They're two completely different games on 2 completely different platforms. I can run Crysis on near highest settings in 1680x1050 with 4x AA and it runs no less than 50 FPS. Comparing a game like Uncharted 2 that was developed on a closed hardware architecture shouldn't be compared to a game that can run on open hardware that is PC-based. Crysis runs and looks great on my PC. Uncharted 2 looks great and runs great on the PS3. Different systems, different games. The two shouldn't be compared.

jack_burt0n6081d ago

9800GTX+oc sli owner bought cheap, I can get crysis running pretty good.

But I still see this and am floored at its AAA quality, and even in the beta the presentation leaves crysis flapping about like a screaming korean soldier :)

http://www.gametrailers.com...

menoyou6081d ago (Edited 6081d ago )

Crysis might have more polygons, but that's about where its claim to fame ends. Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 both have better art direction, animation, gameplay, sound, etc. And honestly, if you knew anything about developing games you would know that creating a graphically intensive game like Crysis is actually easier than optimizing for current hardware.

When people bring up how great Crysis is, it just shows their ignorance as anyone with just a little bit of knowledge understands that its a poorly developed game.

2Spock6081d ago

People can say Crysis looks better all day long. But the fact of the matter is Uncharted 2 blows the doors of Crysis far as gameplay and features.

danfry6081d ago (Edited 6081d ago )

This is Crysis running with its settings fully maxed out, running at least 1920x1200 res. Sure it looks nice as a screen shot, but I bet it would be unplayable - probably running at about 8 or 12 frames per second.

I have a decent PC running a Core i7 processor with 6 Gigs of triple channel ram with 2 ATI Radeon 4870 graphics cards in Crossfire and I still can't run Crysis at these settings - sure I can have almost everything on high settings but only at a max of 1280x960 resolution.

So unless you have about £1800 worh of PC rig, you will not be able to play Crysis looking like the screen shots in this article. Pound for Pound the PS3 kicks the PC's ass.

You may have £1800 knocking around to buy a super PC rig, but for what - only a handfull of games that have been released over the last few years - Uncharted 2 FTW

They are comparing the King of pc graphics against the King of console graphics.

champ216081d ago

they compare games against crysis because crysis is the best looking bar none.. nothing comes close to it.

imo anyone thinking uncharted even looks close to crysis is fooling themselves.

keep comparing boys.. i am sure sony has you all brainwashed.

ill wait until sony has their next title out and again blindly ppl will compare it against crysis until crysis 2 is out ;-)

Ron_Burgundy6082d ago

even though crysis wins because it's on PC, Uncharted 2 isn't far away and is pretty close

madpuppy6081d ago

To be honest, Crysis is a great looking game, if you want to be fair, run crysis on 500megs of ram and nvidia 7 series video card ( the ps3 nvidia equivalent)

Uncharted, I feel holds it’s own with less than half the hardware specs, and the cell picking up the slack.

Ron_Burgundy6082d ago

Uncharted 2 is too good to be compared to other console games except it's own PS3 exclusives, so it graduates up and is now being compared with PC games

tdrules6082d ago

its good to know ps3 owners can respect pc gaming too, cool guys (:

i own a ps3 and pc btw, and even i can admit crysis LOOKS better.
but i prefer uncharted gameplay, always have always will

Jack-Pyro6082d ago

most of the fanboyism you'll find on here, most PS3 gamers are good dudes, and as a gamer period, I've always had respect for PC gaming, because lets face it, it truly is the superior platform.

That being said, Uncharted 2 looks bloody amazing, but it looks bloody amazing in a different way from Crysis, I would like to say that their both graphical powerhouses that look and play amazing...so I will!

stevenhiggster6082d ago (Edited 6082d ago )

Also you tend find that like my self, a lot of PS3 gamers are also PC gamers.
It's the only 2 platforms you need for gaming heaven ;-)

Kenshinhimurasz6082d ago

Agree PC game look amazing compared to ps2/n64 game back in the days, that where i expanded my gaming experience with game like CS, WC3, Star Craft, Diablo, HalfLife, Sims. We all know that PC are powerful with game like Crysis. I haven't played it yet because my computer can handle it, but i can tell that it look better. When comparing UC2 to other games on ps3/x360 nothing matches it. Back to UC2 demo

MegaPowa6081d ago

The problem is ps3 owners can't respect wii and 360 owners which is just sad...

Can you run Crysis in VR? Crysis VR Mod Available for Download

Holger Frydrych has just released a cool VR Mod for the 2007 version of Crytek's first-person shooter, Crysis.

Playing it right now looks amazing! :D
so much fun, i hope they make a vr mod for crysis 2 / 3 too!

DivineHand125485d ago

This is amazing. This is the direction VR should go in to boost adoption. Since I have beaten every Crysis except 1, this is now a good excuse to correct that problem.

Crytek Wanted Crysis To Be "Future-Proof"

According to Crytek CEO Cervat Yerli, "I want[ed] to make sure Crysis does not age, that [it] is future proofed, meaning that if I played it three years from now, it should look better than today." Yerli and the team designed Crysis' highest graphical settings for the PC hardware of 2010 and beyond.

While Crytek has officially announced Crysis 4 is in development, nothing new has surfaced. For now, gamers' only way to scratch that itch is to play the Crysis Remastered Trilogy available on PC and consoles.

OG 2007 Crysis (not the remastered weirdo), is & will forever be a legend amongst the PC community.

PrinceOfAnger490d ago

This video will always be impressive to me, even for years to come. Some things here are better than games we have today, OG crysis is the best version!

https://youtu.be/SVg63_aNr-...

RaidenBlack490d ago

OG Crysis physics, man ... amazing! Thanks for the reminder!

PrinceOfAnger489d ago (Edited 489d ago )

Looks really nice with VR mod too

FinalFantasyFanatic489d ago

I'm still shocked that it looks as good as it does today, puts some modern games to shame.

Profchaos488d ago

I thought the remaster was fine tbh some rough edges at launch but after some patches it's decent

isarai490d ago

I mean the lighting and physics still hold up extremely well. I still revisit it from time to time.

RedDeadLB489d ago

That CPU performance thing is preventing it.

isarai488d ago

Yeah unfortunately Crystek's decision to bet on the linear progression of clock speed in CPUs was derailed by the unforseen shift towards multicore CPUs. It just wasn't built with that in mind because that wasn't even in the conversation at the moment

DivineHand125489d ago

I remember when I tried to play Crysis with my Intel Pentium Dual core E2200 @2.2GHz , 4GB ram and GeForce 9400gt. I was a kid back then and that was the best I could do. I would get about 15 to 20 fps. When I over clocked the CPU to 2.8GHz I would get about 40fps. The experience wasn't good at all and it was the only PC game I could not run back then unless and put the settings on low. At that point the game went from cutting edge graphics to PS2 graphics. To this day I haven't completed the OG Crysis. I was able to complete Crysis 2 and 3 after building a new PC when I got my first job.

HyperMoused489d ago

Never played it, worth a try you think?

Profchaos488d ago (Edited 488d ago )

Worth a try just because it's the only game that lets you pick up a turtle on the beach and throw it at enemy soldiers that should have been a back of the box feature.

But nah seriously unless you're nostalgic for it I'm not sure if it will hold up

Crytek went so overboard on the Crysis tech and sent devs to photograph leaves in Haiti

"The shader work that came out of this was mind-blowing at times."

RaidenBlack502d ago

Amazing, often misunderstood
The dumb AI was deliberate, so that the players can explore and experiment with the world and all the features.

vTuro24501d ago

It really is. Most people only remember it for its graphics but the gameplay was equally amazing.

RaidenBlack502d ago

Hope they try to pour nearly same amount of dedication to the new Crysis 4

DefenderOfDoom2502d ago

Well worth the extra work ! I enjoyed all 3 Crisis games and would also love a new one .

JunonZanon502d ago (Edited 502d ago )

Still wish game development was overall this passionate and minutious about their projects. Obviously, there are still some great studios as exceptions.

LikAChicken501d ago

I’ll never forget Far Cry 2 and the amount of details they packed in.

Yea there were some issues with the gameplay loop and the sickness aspect but you could tell they really tried to nail details.

DivineHand125501d ago

I haven't beaten the first Crysis but I did play Crysis 2 and Crysis 3. I know some PC players were annoyed by the last 2 games being developed with consoles in mind but I believe it was an improvement. I had a great time with Crysis 3 to the point where I believe it was too short.
