Borderlands Pre-Order Bonus

JPS Reports: "If you still have not pre-ordered 2K Games' Borderlands for the XBOX 360 and PlayStation 3, now is probably the good idea to go and pre-order it as Gamestop is giving away Weapon Pack codes that will be available as the game comes out..."

The article doesn't explain much, so from gamestop's site..

"Reserve Borderlands and receive the GameStop exclusive Gearbox Mercenary Weapon Pack. This exclusive weapon pack contains 8 unique in-game guns available only to players who pre-order through GameStop. Available online and in-store while supplies last."

Sorry, but these "incentives" are getting more and more pathetic. What are they admitting? that they are worried the game won't sell or that it is not as good as they want you to believe it is and that they need to give away a bunch of zeros and ones in code to make you buy it? What is with this crap?

JL6101d ago

@Syronicus (and Legionaire down the list a ways)
You're looking at this from the wrong angle. You're wanting to put this on the game companies/developers/publisher s. That's not the root of this "problem". Why do they care if you pre-order it or buy it a couple days after? They don't, as long as they get the money. Pre-orders don't help sales (well not in most cases--especially not bonuses like these). These pre-order bonuses are contrived by the retailers themselves. They're in a war to be the one to get your business. Say Gamestop and Amazon are obviously wanting you to buy Borderlands from them. Well how does Gamestop entice you to get the game from them instead of Amazon? They're sitting around and somebody in the meeting says "hey I know. Let's pay Gearbox a lil money to give us some lil tiny something as incentive for when people buy from us. That means they'll be getting more for their money here, so the consumers are bound to come to us". Do that enough times and Amazon ends up being like "hey, we need to get some incentive too". Now it's progressed to who can get the best incentive.

So there you go. Blame greedy corporations for this 'mess'. I guess at least they're not forking over so much money that we as gamers are getting majorly shafted out of pieces of the game (not that I've ever seen anyways---being without a pack of guns, or not having a certain character doesn't ruin the game as a whole).

Sounds like a load of unnecessary testicles to me!... The game itself looks interesting though.

Bereaver6101d ago

I think you meant, "Pile of unnecessary testicles".

Legionaire20056101d ago

They did the same thing with Marvel Alliance 2(codes to get a secret character, Alpha Protocol, and many more. Battlefield Bad Company had that infamous pay to get 5 special guns s**t!!! Call of Duty modern warfare 2 a Night Vision goggle that might not be as good as the the real ones in the Army.

chak_6101d ago

relax, game already has 13 billions weapons, who cares about 8 :D

Excalibur6101d ago (Edited 6101d ago )

They claim you can make up to 1 million guns in the game so I'm gonna worry about G.S.'s 8 more? Nah...Very lame G.S.

I agree with other posters here that the pre-order bonus's need to be stepped up a notch.

ever since XIII came out I really loved the cell shaded artstyle in games. I probably wouldn't have tried it if it didn't have such a style like that

Despite Borderlands Movie Flop, Series Saw Boost in Sales; Take-Two to Be Selective on Licensing IPs

Take-Two admits the Borderlands movie was disappointing, though it still contributed to the game catalog's sales.

-Foxtrot579d ago

"we don’t really need to break out the contribution from the film because while it was economically positive"

Come on, there was nothing positive about it, it literally bled money...not really economically.

Daeloki578d ago

No there was not. The same way there was no Dragon Ball live action movie, nor an Avatar the Last Airbender live action movie :)

Polish a turd to make a what?!

DefenderOfDoom2578d ago (Edited 578d ago )

So the movie cost 155 million to produce and another 30 million dollars to promote . Borderlands movie brought in around 31 million worldwide . So basically, the Borderlands movie was a 154 million commercial for Borderlands video game franchise.
