Sony Still Pondering Names, Options For Motion Controller

It's simply dubbed the Wand Controller. For the time being, that is.

"There are several candidates for the name of the controller," said Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida. While still undecided, those names are making their way through Sony, being run up the flagpole and getting feedback from various internal departments.

"The SIXAXIS and the DualShock 3 - while great product names - are based on the actual tech," Yoshida explained. "The name we pick for the Wand Controller maybe won't be so techy."

Sony's rebranding is very good as of late.

They're losing the technical and clinical nature and going for a more relaxed approach.

On top of this they're still developing some top quality title.

I do hope this motion controller gets some support, but I really want to see footage of more games using it

Flowmotion (as someone mention)

I think just calling it a 'glow stick' would catch on easily

cyberwaffles6074d ago (Edited 6074d ago )

how about the Sony Wavestick or WaveSphere?

maybe Wavestix to be fancy.

EDIT:

some more ideas: the Wavechuck (like nunchuck), DualChuck, WaveAxis (like sixaxis),

instead of worrying about a name right now, why not worry on what you are going to do with a motion controller without an analog stick? cause that DS/Motion controller combo that was shown during that RE demo put me into a state of shock. and By that, it was a "WTF is Wrong with you Sony" type of way...

wUTTer6075d ago

The article says that a nunchuk like controller is already in the development phase.

Hopefully they speak the truth.

mastiffchild6075d ago

No, it didn't. It said there wewre rumours but then Sony only talked about the cheap solution being the DS3-which for me and my kids just wouldn't work at all.

No nunchuck type add on and this, my friends, will prove a very expensive mistake. It looks ungainly, at present you have to use it the right handed way, it's not comfortable for adults and is useless for kids-they NEED an analogue stick solution that is both cheap and ISN'T this!

I can't believe they showed it if they aren't considering it as the final answer and if they really are then this is, frankly, doomed to failure. It doesn't work that well for anyone and not at all for many of the target market and, imo, could easily go down as one of Sony's worst ever mess ups. you just know it's bad for Sony if Kotaku pretend it's a decent idea. How much could they get a nunchuck type device out for? Third party ones on Wii with accelerometers are available for , what, £7? Are Sony prepared to mess this up for the sake of a few sheets?

Honestly, I think they might be and it seems very, very misguided to me.Casual gamers see the custom made peripherals iof the Wii which they know and like-why would they go for more accuracy in one hand and something barely functional in the other from Sony when it requires them to get a PS3 as well? FFA just make the extra peripheral and bundle it with a wand-it's basic common sense.

So, Where’s Star Wars PlayStation Move?

GXC: "When Sony revealed their motion controller for the PS3 back at E3 2009, there was one [possible] game on a lot of people’s mind: Star Wars. The new controller was seemingly a perfect fit for bringing the legendary action of lightsabers into the living room. Three years later however, there is still nothing to be seen on that frontier. So [the] question is: Where is Star Wars PlayStation Move? "

I think it's safe to assume we won't be seeing one on the PS3.

iXenon4966d ago

I have a feeling that a Star Wars move game wouldn't meet expectations.

SoundGamer4966d ago

Probably not - but if they truly tried, they could make a good one. There's no reason they couldn't other than trying to cut costs and make it a quick cash grab.

MS got the exclusivity with their shitty Kinect game, simple as

stuntman_mike4966d ago

I just want to see more of 1313.

t0mmyb0y4965d ago

Heck yes. That should be a good one.

Soldierone4966d ago

After see the crap that was Star Wars Kinect.....you really want to see it on Move? Don't get me wrong, actually holding a lightsaber could be rather cool with Move, but if its made by a similar studio I expect nothing of quality.
