Now we'll see both camps pumping out truly great games, and not recycled things. Microsoft might as well push new games. On a side note: I want Alan Wake and other high quality games form the 360.

Great. The more people playing Uncharted 2 the better. The stereotype that no ones on PSN has pretty much dissapeared. If voice-chat does come in October, it'll have ended any major complaint Ive had with PSN.

That my friends is a desperate story. And it leaves out so many things. Case in point, the biggest surge in sells always comes when a new console is newly released. If fail to show that the PS3 sells are down 75 percent since it's release day numbers. 500,000 console jump includes initial surge for slim and many other variables.

You bring up a valid point. I think my 7 million to 6 million is more of a generalization but what i meant is the PS3 is now within the 6 million behind instead of within the 7 million behind. Lets say the 360 sells 300k this month then PS3s 700k has still put it in to the next million. Also dont forget there is another week left. PS3 could still very well sell 1 million more after 360s deduction.

Yeah it will be interesting to see how the wii and PS3 fare this holiday season.

I think in Japan alone in Dec will see 500k -750k PS3 sold with FF13 out there that month. Wii is really hard to tell. Yes and i do wonder if its sales will suffer considering that it has sold 50 plus million units already. I still maintain that the bulk of wii owners didn't game last gen and are mostly new to gaming.

PS3 has the benefit of the massive PS2 fanbase but i am not sure what if any big games for it in dec now that GT5 is not coming this year. GOW collection is going to be huge in Nov with alot of PS2 GOW fans migrating but december is the dry month it seems.

Value wise there is no question that the PS3 is the best and with the economy as is. Alot of people will look at value as much as games which plays well for the PS3. The realy question is the wii and its new price. However i doubt it will do as well considering that 249 is not that much cheaper than 199. My point is the wii was already affordable similar to the situation with the x360 now. Are there any reports of wii sales spike after the wii cut announcments?. I haven't heard anything.

Xbox-only owners will attempt to caculate how long it would take for PS3 to actually catch up, but that is useless because sales spike they're never consistent. Right now PS3 has more heavy-hitters that will spike it. It's got FFXIII in Japan, Gran Turismo will increase sales everywhere, and Uncharted 2 in Europe and in North America will increase sales. 360 has nothing. No game or price drop will increase sales dramitically for the 360.

I thought competition was supposed to be a good thing. While the PS3 is climbing on top with sales and bringing the monthly AAA games, all MS can do is slash the price 2 times in 3 weeks time and still not have any games other than expansions. MS needs to step their game up.

The xbox 360 is failing to expand. Yea they sell 2 million units of Halo 3 odst but it didn't doesn't increase the 360 install base at all.

If you are going to count adult numbers please use adult math. I understand your theory, however this past week has already killed that. The PS3 was said to have sold 250K this week, not 330, and based on the trend the are probably going to be in the 150-180 range next week not 330k.

I have recently heard numerous comments about the reputed ps3 'momentum' and how that will be sustained, but actually, that seems to have fizzled away with reports of the falling weekly sales, post week1.

I can refute your entire list there, Commodore, with just 1 item:

- Despite being more expensive, the PS3 is has sold more consoles since November 2006 than the 360 has.

And when you add in that the PS3 has had to deal all kinds of other stigmas like the negativity and cynicism of the media towards it basically all the way up until the Slim was finally announced with the 299 price point, and the smaller game library, and all of the internet comparisons saying multiplatform games are better on 360, and Xbox Live is better than PSN, and the 360 having more highly-rated games on MetaCritic... well even despite it all, the PS3 has still kept pace with the 360 during its time on the market.

The gist of my comment was to point out that Sony has done pretty much EVERYTHING it can to catch up, yet it hasn't, and the sales spike seems very short lived.

Just take a quick look at his posting history. He's in la-la land.

The fact is the PS3 is selling faster then the 360 ever could. He just can't deal with that so he clings to the myth of there being something wrong with PS3 sales instead of 360 sales. The question is, why at $200 dollars can't the 360 beat the PS3? Since they've been head to head, the 360 has been in third place, and the 360 has always had the price advantage, so guys like Commodore can pretend that the PS3 isn't selling better all they want, the facts don't lie.

3.6 million consoles. That's how many more consoles the PS3 has sold in it's first 2 1/2 years on the market compared to the 360's first 2 1/2 years, and that's not counting the spike from Slim sales. As for the PS3 out of third place, if Sony and Microsoft hit their shipping estimates the lead should be down to 4 million by the end of the fiscal year in March. I think mid to late 2010 should put the PS3 over the 360, a year later then most analysts predicted but no one saw the slowdown in consumer spending coming.

The question should be, why didn't the 360 catch on like the PS3 is doing?

I invited ps3fans to make an estimate on when they think the title of this article will be realised.

M$ lost $9 billion on XBOX franchise, just because it's starting to make profit now doesnt mean it can cover the $9 billion loses.

Sony on the other hand has only $3.9 billion to go.

Here's the thing: the "catch up" isn't going to happen overnight, and the slowdown in sales were probably because of the slow down across the board for ALL gaming systems (besides the DSi in Japan, and that was because they were REALLY wanting that Pokemon game that came out). Besides that and the PS3 ToV game, there wasn't much to talk about in terms of software in Japan (I don't think they are into Halo as much as we seem to be over here) that came out.

But if the PS3 can do that good, and they got some bundles on the way for games like Uncharted 2, then you can see that sales for the new form factor will more than likely pick up again, and the NPD numbers will probably tell the tale of a lot of things (I say "probably" because those never fail to tell a story no one's expecting to even be written).
