Why exactly do we as gamers pay $60 of our hard earned dollars for the privilege to play video games?

and developers b***h about people buying used games...so gamestop gets roughly 17-20 buchs from new games,$10 to make em and ship em out...so the true cost of the game is say $30...
so if i downloaded the full game online it should cost me say $39.99?

Im happy to pay 60 bucks for a game like Uncharted 2 or Modern Warfare 2 because I know ill get months if not years of playtime out of those 2 titles alone. But many gamers obviously don't pay the 60 bucks. My brother's 360 is modded and his friend burns every game for him, he can even play on XBL with no problems.

@Badboy- It is stealing, but its really no different than downloading movies, music, and tv shows. I don't do it cause its way too expensive and difficult to do on a PS3 platform.

BadboyCivic3606084d ago

i feel like modding is stealing man, i prefer to pay for stuff than do that

A lot of people feel $60 is too much for games. Which is why so many consider buying and trading in.

Really interesting article.

PinkUni6084d ago

what about the movie industry?
they charge 20 dollars and their films are incredibly high budget

its all a matter of what people are willing to pay and they will raise it if people are willing to pay

doesn't matter what kind of quality it is or if its cheap as hell

just look at all the really crappy games that make millions

quality has nothing to do with it

randomwiz6084d ago (Edited 6084d ago )

no... you're the stupid one here

films release in the theaters, make millions of dollars, then make millions more in dvd's.

Really, in all of the $60, only about $20-$30 is sent to the publisher. The developer gets whatever the publisher pays them

PinkUni6084d ago

yeah but a movie ticket still isn't 60 dollars

Saaking6084d ago

PS3 games are on bluray; however 360 games should be 50. Why are they 60? They use the old dvd tech. There's no excuse.

The Matrix6084d ago

Why do I pay $60 per game? Because that's how much they cost.

champ216084d ago

@saaking

you pay 60usd for ps3 games.

while the real hd versions are released on the pc for 50usd.

i wonder how does it feel paying sony a tax for low res games?

its great how they have brainwashed you by giving you 1-2 good exclusives a year while charging you a premium for every other low res game you buy lol.

It's good to be a non-console gamer in Canada. New PC releases cost $50, and PS3/360 games are $70+

meepmoopmeep6084d ago

but you miss out on so many games though

Raf1k16084d ago

It's even better to be a PC&PS3 gamer :D

Tony P6084d ago

Yeah, I love my PC, but I don't think I could ever totally ditch consoles. Miss too many franchises.

STONEY46084d ago (Edited 6084d ago )

And for whoever disagreed with Panda, up there in Canada it costs $70, not $60 for console games.

"but you miss out on so many games though"

Yeah, like 10 PS3 exclusives, although somehow I ended up with like 40 PS3 games. Well now that I think about it, I think I have more exlusives than 10.

Bnet3436084d ago

Agreed with TonyP. I like playing PC games like TF2, but I can't ditch consoles, ever. You'll miss JRPGs and many other japanese games that never make it to PC.

Pandamobile6084d ago

Not to say I wouldn't own a console for this reason. But I can act all smug when buying multiplatform games. Everyone else pays $20 more for the crappier version.

champ216084d ago

Agreed with panda.

as a pc gamer i might like only 1-2 of the ps3 exclusives.

however i wouldnt pay 10usd (25usd if you are in europe or middle east) for every other game i need to purchase. I rather save the money on buying games and go for a hardware upgrade every year and stay on the tech curve.

Pay a 10usd- 25usd tax and end up with a low res version why? lol

because some gamers are stupid

meepmoopmeep6084d ago

go to a games convention and scream that out :P

rCrysis6084d ago

because that is the retail price 0.0

i looked at a couple old gaming magazines and saw ads on N64 games. I don't remember Rogue Squadron being $45 =/

Well yeah. Retail right now be $60 We pay it. So we play it
