Sony: No UMD Conversion Program For PSPGo... Yet

Playstation Portable owners will not be able to transfer the disc-based UMD games they own to a PSPgo when the sleek new digital-only system launches next week, Sony officials told Kotaku today.

saint_john_paul_ii6129d ago

at least they are still working on it.

I like the Koisk idea. Bring your PSP UMD games into the kiosk trade them into digital titles.

Lucreto6129d ago

That is okay but I want to keep my UMDs at the same time.

There should be a way to connect the PSP to the PS3 and get register the game on PSN and you receive a code of it. Then download to the PSP GO I would pay €2 for that convenience.

I was planning to get one next Thursday but I won't know.

doeman6129d ago (Edited 6129d ago )

hmm.... not a bad idea, but then anyone could just pop a psp game in their psp and ask for the code. they wouldn't even have to own the game =/

Blaze9296129d ago

"We were evaluating a UMD conversion program, but due to legal and technical reasons we will not be offering the program at this time," a Sony Computer Entertainment of America spokesman told Kotaku."

Please, I doubt this will ever come. There is just no way to protect it. People will just rent/borrow games and make digital copies and everyone will be upset. At the time is more like ever. Guaranteed, it just wouldnt work out.

You know what they say, you can't have your cake and eat it.

Sucks but oh well.

Sitdown6129d ago

But if its his cake...shouldn't he be allowed to eat it?.......I never really understood that saying. Anyhoo you should be required to bring in the packaging with the original bar code....and upon being given a digital download code they mark through the upc or hole punch it to signify that you have received a digital download. This method would cut down on people using rentals...while at the same time perhaps discouraging the repurchase of games if they do not come in the original case. But then agin.....this might just be a matter of Sony not trusting that original umd owners would use the digital code for themselves, but give them out to friends.

ReservoirDog3166129d ago

Yeah, I know, I don't understand it either. But that's what they say and it fits at the moment.

PopEmUp6129d ago

not sure about the conversion of the umd, isn't that like leading a way for pirate? :s

Cwalat6128d ago

There is PSP reward system, practically the same deal... but with a different name than "Trade".

You hook up your PSP Go, and login with the same PSN account as your previous PSP had. Then you register the PSP Go for "reward system" and you get to pick up 3 titles for free.

Depending on how many UMD's you have, you will get more than 3.

who cares really. If the new games coming out are downloadable, who cares? People are complaining because they have umds? Sell them or keep you old psp. Sony is still supporting umds and psp go is not an "upgrade".

Death6129d ago

would you also just keep the old PS3 and buy a new one? It doesn't make sense to kill the existing PSP owners game library that want to get the new machine. This is not PSP2 that is simply not b/c. It is the same device that doesn't play existing games in the PSP library. This makes little sense.

This among other things is why I'm not sold on the PSP Go! yet, I'll upgrade my PSP 1000 but probably to a 3000 or 4000, I'd still be able to experience a majority of the Go! functionality so it won't be a total loss.

Jeff2576129d ago

Id love to have the PSP Go so i dont have to lug around my UMD discs and switch them out if I want to game on the go. But until they give me a concrete way to play the games ive already bought on it I wont be buying one. I dont think I should have to rebuy the games I already have unless they are really discounted compared to what I bought them for.

Sarcasm6129d ago

I don't think Sony really thought it out too well. They're really trying to sell the Go to consumers who don't already have a PSP. But don't really anticipate current PSP owners to "upgrade"

Probably down to the high cost of gaming. Controllers and racing wheels can cost as much as consoles.

This is why there will always be competition in gaming. The possibilities to make huge profits is just too enticing.

Pokémon Go Championship Winner Title Revoked for ‘Unsportsmanlike Conduct’

The winner of the Pokémon Go Championship grand finals in Orlando was stripped of their title, allegedly for 'unsportsmanlike conduct' during their victory celebration. The celebration involved the winner removing their headset, standing up, and pumping their fists before shaking hands with their opponent. Many believe the ruling was excessive and that winner's victory celebration was tame compared to celebrations by winners in other competitive games.

There are people that get offended seeing others just enjoying a moment, or enjoying a hobby, or just having fun.

SethNW89d ago

Can someone explain to me what is so problematic with this? I watched video multiple times and all I see dude having bit of celebration. None of his actions felt aggressive or seem like they symbolize anything... Like winning sure deserves bit of celebration like that. I mean who wants to live in the world where you aren't allowed to be excited or have bit of burst of happiness when you win? Like was he supposed to act like emotionless robot? He should be allowed to have bit of his victory "hell yeah" moment, even if it is before shaking hands with opponent. Like it is not like he didn't shake hands or whatnot. And it is not like he is like some super serious government official to have to stick to protocol to a letter. This whole thing is just ridiculous.
