Former Uncharted Developer Working on Halo: Reach

Split-Screen: "Rob Adams was formerly employed at Naughty Dog Studios for more than 7 years, playing not only a major part in the Jak & Daxter series but also in Uncharted: Drake's Fortune for the Playstation 3. Now he'll play a role in a game whose beta alone Microsoft claims will sell the upcoming Halo ODST."

Uncharted was great. But Uncharted 2 looks and plays as only a masterpiece can.

Could his departure be one of the reasons the studio produced an even better game this time?

Nike6096d ago

He was at Naughty Dog for more than 7 years. I mean, okay, they're one of the better dev houses under Sony but how long can one man work for a single company?

Plus, a pedigree like that and Bungie/MS WON'T notice and offer him a better deal? Unlikely.

El Botto6096d ago

on a superior console with superior technological capabilities.

Take one of those developers and put him in a team of 50 worthless Bungie one-trick ponies on an outdated betabox and what is he going to do?

Haha SUCK IT DEEP xbots, we all know you are green with ENVY about Uncharted 2.

sunil6096d ago

Come on... give the guy some respect... he did help create Uncharted

wxer6096d ago

this is just pathetic
MS is bragging about one developer they got that used to work for Sony
lol
and this shows you that Microsoft is just irrelevant wana be

they want sony's quality
but hey
they can dream
lol

Maybe, though I see some of the more die-hard fan boys having a fit over this. But I think we're well past the "can't we all get along" debate.

I am curious as to what kind of settings he can create for Reach, given his past proficiency for sci-fi environments (Jak series).

karan86246096d ago

He may not even have played a huge role in the development of Uncharted. Maybe he left Naughty Dog because everybody made fun of him :P

InfectedDK6096d ago (Edited 6096d ago )

Sorry but that wont do a magic touch somehow so that Halo will be like Uncharted or what it is that they mean with this.. I'm sorry but what's the news? People go from job to job.. I bet you can find hundreds that has gone from one to another company.. What's the big difference? I mean.. If it was a team or something that were to make a whole new game it would say something about the situation but this says nothing, nothing at all.. :)

siyrobbo6096d ago

people come and go from job to job.Media molecule was founded by ex lionhead employees, now they are making games for sony

ShabzS6096d ago (Edited 6096d ago )

some one should actually get their hands on the animators from naughty dog ... uc has some crazy realistic animations...

one guy wont matter now but in the big picture sense .. the reach team has gotten pretty hefty telent over the last couple of months...

Cwalat6096d ago

Whoever replaced him did an awesome job with Uncharted 2.

WhittO6096d ago

lol 1 of the magic devs over at Nauthy Dog may even help improve Halo Reach, im just glad theres like 40+ of those "Magic Devs" working hard on Uncharted 2 haha.

TotalPS3Fanboy6096d ago (Edited 6096d ago )

he teaches them Bungie developers how to develope a better engine, because their Halo engine had been lacking in behind.

GameGambits6096d ago

Haha this is so sad. The fact they even mention a guy from ND is now working for them just shows how much they are envious they could create a game of the caliber that is Uncharted 2.

Sucks to be that guy too to go from AAA to over hyped AA quality at best. I'm sure a year from now we'll read a story on N4G on how this guy killed himself because of the mistakes he made in his career.

Bnet3436096d ago

Bungie is pretty loaded. They got Ryan Peyton from the MGS4 team, the asian chick from Gearbox, some guy from id, etc. Now a guy from Naughty Dog. Pretty bad ass.

Chubear6096d ago

So they now have TWO developers with experience on PS3 exclusive games in MGS4 & UC working on Halo. So we'll see gameplay taken from KZ2, UC & MGS4 that was called crap by the 360fanbase but now implemented in halo they will be called godly.

ChozenWoan6096d ago

Nah MS is just building up their PS3 programing team so they can drop out of consoles and stick to just software. They just want to make sure they have enough experience with PS3 programing so they can Port Halo: Reach to the 7th Gen King!

/trolling.

Of coarse I'm just kidding, but it would have been funny to see your face just a second ago. Almost as funny as seeing people try to make a Halo game seem more appealing by saying it has something in common with Uncharted 2 by way of a cousin's uncle in law's step daughters baby daddy.

wxer6096d ago

so MS cant get their own developers
so they steal sony's the 3rd party exclusives
and the developers

LOL

Fan Tastic6096d ago

NOT.. MS and Bungie will continue to be amateurs and bottom of the barrol gaming developers.

evrfighter6096d ago

the amount of hate and bitterness for this guy and M$ is astounding. Did I click the wrong zone?

FragMnTagM6096d ago

I think they are just butt hurt.

Another one bites the dust only time will tell when more of Sony first party developers will follows suit. When they realize working under Sony they can't show their true potential working with outdated hardware more will move over to Microsoft.

leeger6096d ago

Lol.
You do know that Bungie and Bioware moved away from MS right?

Nike6096d ago

Bioware was never part of MS to begin with. Yes, their Mass Effect franchise has only been on the 360 but that's more of an EA decision than a Bioware one (since it has control of their properties).

As for Bungie, who knows? If they were going to make another Halo game or two, makes you wonder why they moved away in the first place. :P

edgeofblade6096d ago

Why did Bungie move away from Microsoft if they are just going to make more Halo? I suspect you will get your answer around next year's E3. Bungie is working on other projects, believe it or not. Plus, at the same time, people like to make money. And Halo Anything makes money.

Roper3166096d ago

so 1 employee leaves a company to go work for another and that means all of Sony's 1st party dev studios are leaving? Do you actually think before you speak or write a comment? What really happened is that after Halo Reach Bungie will be making a multiplat game so they brought in someone who knows how to work on the PS3 and who did work on a game that is now 2 years old and still looks better then anything the 360 has to offer.

Evoluti0n6096d ago

But it wasn't until after Mass Effect was released that EA obtained Bioware.

Mass Effect was published by Microsoft and developed by Bioware.

Mass Effect 2 is published by EA and developed by Bioware.

Technically speaking, EA wouldn't have control of Mass Effect (1), Microsoft would still hold the rights (as in, EA can't port it to the PS3).

At least that's what I would assume, but like I said, correct me if I'm wrong.

ThatCanadianGuy6096d ago

That's not really an issue.Look at Ninja Gaiden 1&2 for example.
Both funded & published by Microsoft.

Both available for PS3.All they have to do is change the name a little.

iown-ipwn-ikill6096d ago

hmmm...yet u2 looks better than the first. we dont want him. nd will have someone better to work with. but whatever helps u sleep at night u fudge packer

Evoluti0n6096d ago

Actually, Ninja Gaiden 1 wasn't published by Microsoft, it was Tecmo.

Ninja Gaiden 2 was co-published by Microsoft and Tecmo.

So your story doesn't hold up as much, my apologies.

ThatCanadianGuy6096d ago

Ah, true about Ninja Gaiden on xbox. Was published by Tecmo only.Could of sworn Microsoft did it but oh well. The same logic applies to NG2 which was published only by Microsoft exclusively for Xbox 360.

And now it's coming to PS3 under a slightly different name.

Evoluti0n6096d ago

That, you are correct on. Just simply proving a point sir.

Regardless, ODST the 22nd and I took off the 23rd, so I'm good.

How'd fallout not make the list. Atleast over cyberpunk, tales , and halo. Fallout been around since what 96 98 and has 5 6 games into it. It's full of lore when you play it. I'd even add star ocean to a point.

robtion1243d ago

Agree Fallout should be on there.

MadLad1243d ago

And somehow Planescape Torment doesn't even make the list.

Crows901243d ago

Hollow knight surpasses these.

shinoff21831243d ago

In lore? I must be missing something

Crows901243d ago (Edited 1243d ago )

Yes in lore. Easily missed... absolutely. Never played a game that had me loving the world and lore behind it as much as that one. Most of course wouldn't be able to experience it since it is a more difficult game.

DarXyde1243d ago

I can't speak for all titles on this list, but by the time you get to Dark Souls III, the lore is a bloody tapestry of intricacy

Crows901242d ago

Played them all. Im not saying the games on the list dont have good lore...I just think hollow knight had more lore that is hidden but present and more easily explored and accessed. The souls games have tremendous lore but theyre mostly hidden and stay that way unless you look for it and research it. The lore is not very accessible.

DarXyde1242d ago

Crows90,

I think that's a somewhat fair assessment. For me, the Souls games are less upfront about the lore, but it does invite your fascination through NPCs, items, locations, bosses, etc. There's this kind of natural progression where the picture becomes just clear enough by doing the essential tasks, but it really makes you want to explore every inch of the world.

TheColbertinator1243d ago

Suikoden and Legend of Heroes also have massive lore setups.

agent131243d ago

narration is more important than lore i'd rather watch the story and characters in a more cinematic way instead of searching for notes and stuff that's why i love sony exclusive games like uncharted and gow and hate from software games

shinoff21831242d ago

The article was top ten lore in video games. I think they did a bad job picking games out. I know what you mean though. I just like a variety of games and genres.
