Will Alan Wake just be a disappointment?

Alan Wake, the psychological thriller game coming from acclaimed developers Remedy, is a game that really did look like something different. Something that promised new innovations, gorgeous graphics and a very story-driven focus, which certainly sounded exciting when the game was first shown to the public way back in 2006.

Is the game really going to be all that good, or will it be a big disappointment...?

Yup, I mean taking out the open world? LAME

dolan6084d ago

It's basically just a Resident Evil clone. Certainly nothing like the game it was hyped to be. Also, graphically it was quite a dud from the footage at E3. Not really surprising since it has been in development for so long and the engine is so old.

sure its a long shot form what it was suppose to be but it might stil b fun n looks bout as good as anything can on the 360...

topdawg1226084d ago

It looks like it will have a good story and voice acting, but the gameplay doesn't look that cool

Peter North6084d ago

Of course it will be a disappointment, it's a 360 exclusive.

If the 360 didn't suffer from limited disc space and RROD-rendering, Alan Wake would have the chance of being the last moderate success on the dying Xbox 360 platform.

They thought getting into the Automotive industry on the Xbox was a great idea but look what happened.

ditch the efforts, the bear bird game hit a higher graphical note than the twisted wombat and bot combo.

you can take that combo and super-size it b1tch.

I've seen games that natively render in 1080p and don't look nearly as good as Call of Duty 4, which renders below 720p. Native resolution is mostly irrelevant to how good or bad a game can look. In my opinion, the PS3 Ratchet & Clank games have incredible graphics and look better than Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts on 360, even though Banjo is rendered at a higher native resolution. Just look at the polygon count, the texture quality, the fur effects, the shading, the lighting, etc. on Ratchet & Clank Future. It's stunning.

There is a lot of hype around this game, and being a new IP we don't really know what to expect.

It could go either way.

For the record, I hope it's a successful title for Remedy and Microsoft.

I agree, I really hope it is a good game. Let's just hope they haven't screwed it up with what they've changed in the game.

A Late Look: Alan Wake

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "All in all, it’s not hard to see why Alan Wake has received a bit of a cult following (there’s that famous foreshadowing again). It’s a title that blends themes and gameplay, while pushing the limits of storytelling by putting stories within stories and letting you read those stories before you get to that part in… the story. It has flaws, to be sure - the gameplay side can’t quite keep up with the rest of its ambitions - but overall it’s a great game that stands out among its peers and is undeniably… one for the books."

Kind of a goody story...

On a serious note, that is why I try activating gift cards asap. It's happened to me where the store didnt scan it right where the card was unusuable. Happened at Wally World.

gigoran8758d ago

wait, that place is real? national lampoon wasn't kidding?

jznrpg171d ago

People sometimes call Wal-Mart Wally World including myself

Tacoboto758d ago

I just bought two of the MonsterVerse Godzilla movies on 4K - both had digital copies expiring in 2023. Both were actually expired.

I'd be surprised but it's WB, of course they'd actually expire them

Knightofelemia759d ago

Usually most of those redemption card have an expiry date on them. If they expired all buyer did was buy recycled paper. And some of those codes are country locked to certain countries. I buy a card from the States I can't use it in Canada.

Dumb and silly story. She wasted her money for no reason.

Is it really that hard to go to Steam or GOG. She spent $240, when its currently 70% off on GOG, and only costs $4.49.

Gee, I wonder, should I spend $240 on eBay, or $4.49 on GOG? 🙄

Rynxie758d ago

Most likely she wanted to resell a few or most of them. However, it was a too good to be true situation.

Profchaos758d ago

So in short she paid $240.00 assuming usd for a bunch on unactivated game codes.

I still don't understand why I guess cause there's not a physical version and she wanted something for a collection or art project.

Rynxie758d ago

No, most likely to resell. However, she ended up getting screwed.

Asplundh758d ago

This is Alan Wake 1, it had physical copies.
