...is milking this one. Realistically the PSPGo should have been released at the same price as the current PSP-3000 and the PSP-3000 should have dropped in price by at least 15%.

I was all set for a PSPGo (have a 3000 at present) but in NZ they are charging $499! That's $50 less than a PS3!!!

I remember when the ipod phone first came out. Anybody remember how much that was? Yeah $400 retail for when it was first introduced to the public. As much as a Ps3 back then. If the price really bugs you for the PsP Go, just wait until it drops. The Psp Go really does look marvelous & exotic imo.

I agree with the article based on PRICE concerns. PSP has been around long enough to reduce the production costs and thus reap benefits for each handheld sold. However, the PSPGo is stripping out the UMD (which is probably a good chunk of cost) and adding flash memory (which is relatively cheap). Meaning, that arguably the Go could be released at a CHEAPER price point than even the PSP 3000. That being said, I was still VERY TEMPTED to get the PSPGo (so sexy) until I put my "fanish" goggles away and became more rational. I love Sony...love my PSP "Fat"...love my PS3. But, there comes a point where I have to weigh the money and value argument. For us gamers, it may not make too much of a difference in price. But, when Sally Soccermom takes lil Jimmy to the local game store to purchase one and sees that the PS3 and 360 (and Wii by the time it's released) are only $50 more than the handheld PSPGo...it's gonna be a hard sell. Who knows...maybe Sony will shock us all at the Tokyo Games Show and drop the price before release...there's always hoping right!?!?!

ummm all i gotta say to the people complaining about the price is read this:

"Store content on the ample 16GB memory, or expand your storage options with the device's Memory Stick Micro support"

the psp's before that:

"With 64MB of internal system memory and a dedicated CPU running at up to 333MHz, the PSP has the horsepower you need for an exciting gaming experience"

Id say thats one helluva deal considering you get 16GB plus you can pop in another 16gb flash card in there. the consumers are gettin one helluva deal

i will Go and buy this PSP Go it looks awesome i like to have the UMD case but i like this design more than the older design i'll buy a PSP Go and to me $250 is worth the price

I'm not paying more for less. It does not make any sense.

The PSP Go will not do what its intended, and thats take a bite out of the iPod Touch/iPhone sales. Its too expensive for one. Whoever at Sony thought it would be a good idea to re-release a system over four years later at THE SAME PRICE POINT is a complete moron. If had been $150 to begin with, maybe. but this is the same system as far as the games are concerned.

Compete with the iPod Touch or iPhone? nope. Its too big, has too clunky an interface compared to Apple (doesnt everyone? lol), and WILL NOT BE BOUGHT BY WOMEN. I repeat, no women will buy this. When you already count out HALF the population, you can forget about this finding that kind of popularity.

Purely on the gaming tip, who in there right minds will pay $250 for this?! When the PSP first came out, it was super sleek, and everyone thought "here comes the PS2, but in handheld form!". Of course, things didnt quite pan out that way, and Sony's brand name has lost much of that luster (and $) since those days.

If Sony thinks this thing will be successful beyond its first month or so, they're in for a rude awakening.

At the end of the day if you want UMD (and you can still download with that too) you can have a psp3000. No problem.

The pspGo though is suited for those who are always travelling. Having no UMD's means that you can take this anywhere without a huge carry case of games, or just one game. Its the first truly portable console ever as far as Im concerned.

Not only that its much smaller, which means newer and more expensive tech. Its also got a slide out screen which looks awesome and means when watching films its neat and small, this costs.

And its a psp which can fit into any pocket without being too noticeable which is good.

Only yesterday someone posting claiming to be a buisnessman doing a lot of commuting and traveling who said that the pspGo was excellent. No large UMD's, sleeker design and good storage.

This is who sony are marketing towards. If you just want a console, get a psp. But if you want something truly portable, no extras, no fuss, if you need a console with you when your at work or travelling then this is perfect. And the cost reflects all of what I just said.

If it doesnt appeal to you dont worry, your probably not the pspGo's target audience.

So we all know Sony isnt in this business for the love of gaming.
And their current management in tokyo isnt the brightest one either.
But yeah, screw modesty, this industry is about money making anyway.

But how the hell can you expect retail chains to support this console that will ultimately cut them out in the near future. How can Sony expect the customers(thats us btw) to be stupid enough to purchase a system thats much more expensive and is sub standard in every which way compared to the "real" product? Why the hell should i buy a system that goes straight into the rubbish once the battery back crapped out on me, cause i cant replace it; because that feature is in THEIR favor?

Seriously SONY, even you cant be so deluded and arrogant, can you?
