The 360 ahare many of the same feature sets as dx10...thanks to Microsoft. I always thought that was a masterstroke by MS and ATI. I am really looking foward to Unreal. I have always enjoyed the Unreal games. And this one should be the best one yet.

Yea thanks. The point wasn't crysis. The point was to show that Elite was correct in stating that the 360 GPU (XENOS) does in FACT have dx10 similarities. It's not full on DX10 but it does have properties of it. It's like DX9.5 and anyone who is going to try and deny that is a moron. The article states it. ATI states it. You can find stuff everywhere. So anyone who says that Elite is lying or wrong is in fact WRONG.

One interesting thing that was said to me during our conversation was that 3D game content developers were relied on along the way as the GPU was designed. Not consulted with or talked to once in a while, but relied upon for their GPU functionality requests and feedback as to the GPU’s implementation. Also keep in mind that Microsoft owns this technology and while there is certainly a good amount of technology sharing between ATI and Microsoft, Microsoft has the ability to make their own changes and take the part anywhere in the world to be fabricated. So while it is ATI’s design, it is fundamentally Microsoft’s GPU. All this and more indicates that the Xbox 360 GPU is truly a unique GPU.

Consoles don't really need DirectX or OpenGL. These graphics libraries help the development process of course, but good engines, ones that take full advantage of a console, are developed with the "guts" of the consoles in mind, i.e. in assembly language. That's how god of war 2 was developed on PS2. That's how probably Insomniac cracked the SPEs, how Motorstorm 2 will manage to bump up its performance to more SPE usage, and how Factor 5 probably figured out how to use the SPEs.

PS3 is not gonna use DirectX on anything since it belongs to Microsoft and they'll be damned if they let something inside the PS3 that is related to microsoft (other than being able to read VC-1). A version of OpenGL maybe. It's not needed anyway, Unreal Engine already runs on PS3, and it doesn't matter how they made it, the important thing is that it is there, and that as Mark Rein said, all consoles are identical inside and so they can be taken advantage off like they did with gears, and like they'll probably do with UE3.

Just a thought here. But for the guy that posted the lost planet comparison links between the 360 and the PC version. What is it I'm supposed to see? LOL! I cannot see any difference at all.

I hate motion blur, whenever DF would say a version was better because of motion blur I always rolled my eyes because motion blur is not a defining element to me and I don’t feel like any game has emplemented it in a good way

I like it overall it helps convey speed better imo. But in multiplayer it can prevent you from seeing your enemy correctly.
However single player motion blur all the way

The issue with motion blur is the implementation of the feature is based on a misperception of the human senses. We experience motion blur all the time in our everyday lives as we turn our head and look around. But the reality is we are unaware it is occurring. In games they have made the sensation overt and thus it is unrealistic. To many people it is annoying and for a few, sickening.

The same is partially true with headbob. In actuality, it occurs to varying degrees depending upon things as gait, skeletal structure, etc. But as we matured our brains rapidly developed compensation mechanisms such as your eye rotation almost imperceptibly up and down. They have made the sensation overt in many games and depending upon how it is instituted it can provide an unrealistic experience for the gamer.

Motion blur is annoying and interferes with my ability to play FPS. I expect to be able to see things as clearly as my eyes allow me to, so stop adding distortions to the game that interfere with my ability to aim.

Developers thinking that motion blur adds anything to the experience are 100% WRONG and should stop it.

I turn it off whenever possible, and normally DoF too (but that depends on the game and how well/badly it is implemented).

I always turn it off or set it to low if there is no off. My one major gripe about SoD2 is the motion blur and I really hope they patch in the option to turn it off.

I'm not a big fan of all those effects either if possible the first thing that is turned off is motion blur...

I also don't like lens glare especially in a game that is first person view..... for me it often breaks the immersion.....

why is there lens glare in a game world with no cameras? I wear glasses and lighting does not reflect that dramatic even if the excuse was a visor or glasses..........
In a game that could justify or make sense of lens glare, I still find that game developers have overly done/over intensified the lens glare/flare and it just becomes a distraction..........

Someone above mention depth of field.... Now that one if done correctly, I can handle but I still want the option to turn it off or adjust the intensity in game if the dev/pub over does it (and depth of field is often over done) for whatever game...........

Maybe devs just need to tone all effects back just a bit (probably worse now with HDR ha!) haven't updated my set still enjoying my Plasma TV I have had for a few years still got inky blacks/fantastic contrast and color :-)

Cant stand it one of the first setting's i mess with soon as a set up a new game.

Need to scale it back a bit also the bloom is getting too much in some games , never get sick of depth of field effect though .

Not to be downer, but let's be real here. Doom will have some pre launch hype by it's fans who miss 'the glory days of shooters' but it will fizzle out quick within a month.

I'm not underestimating how popular this series is, it's just a different beast now, compared to back then. Now doom doesn't have to be this mega hit, but websites will be putting articles out trying to hype it up as if it will (or should be) because they are personal not into games like call of duty, which in return they know will get them a lot of support from people who also don't like it.

It just seems like websites have a standard 'hook em in' strategy book on how to present a article so gamers feed on it, now I know technically they have to do it to be successful, but I guess being on N4G this long I start seeing a pattern of familiarity with all the articles popping up daily.

Doom looks awesome and will be a must buy for me. But calling it the best fps seen in years is a stretch. Especially since the game is not out yet. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. High expectations is a killer.

I've heard allot of Good things about the original. can someone explain what will set this apart from every other fps out? For example battlefield's things are large maps destruction and vehicles, cod's are "solid" multiplayer and zombies. Are there any features thats gonna make DOOM the "best first person shooter we've seen in ages"?

Its my next buy for sure...i miss the frantic gore gameplay of the old doom...

One of the first games I've every played was DOOM, so I'm probably going to pick up a copy on release! Really hope it doesn't disappoint.

Not to take away from Doom, but if we're simply talking about combat, Destiny is so much more dynamic. Say what you will about content droughts and "non-existent story," but at least acknowledge that Destiny's gameplay is second to none.

The day a Destiny experience runs at 60 frames is the day it will be the greatest first person shooter gameplay of all time.

I'm keeping my eye on Overwatch, though.
