Well the Spring update did not kill my Xbox 360. I just think some people are trying to make the 360 look bad. I have no doubt that there might be a small number of people whos Xbox 360's did get bricked by the update.

when i updated my 360 with the spring update, nothing happened. the next day when i got home, i turned on my Xbox to download the forza 2 demo, but it gave me the 3 red lights of death.

the worst thing is that this happened a few days before the halo 3 beta release, and i got my crackdown copy just to play halo 3 beta!! Now i feel like i have just been ripped off because it takes around 4 weeks to get my console replaced and the halo 3 beta is three weeks long!!

According to my calculations, i would be getting my 360 one or two days after the beta is over!! I'm so pissed.

i have mine since December 2005 and it has all the updates and never killed mine. I know people who have the 360 at same time and have all the updates and they never DIED. And WOW, exactly 360 Xbox360 that are killed? Kiss my ass if i believe in this. BS. MarketinG War again?

I updated mine and its ok, i have the elite, but everyone knows that is the same as the premium, but why are people having this problems in updates, anyway mine its working fine and i hope it does for a long time..lol

After I updated my 360 it wont play 360 games anymore.It will play cd's,dvd,even old xbox games...no 360 game though.Microsoft will not help me either.Told me I have to pay them even though it obviously was due to the update.F**kers.

The 360 have problems with freezing, disk scratches, overheating, dvd problems, disk readin errors, firmware update will kill it and patching up games, and playin certain games will brick it..lol..microsoft is a professional when it comes down to bugs.

My 360 actually performs better and loads quicker after the update. I think most of those people just want new 360's. Oh well I've had mine since 11/19/2005 and it is still trucking along better than brand new.

My warranty is about to expire. So if my 360 dies any time soon, I have a PS3, which is in fact better in every way.

Seriously I could see if a person is on their second console, but third and fourth,..well that just stupid, and makes you a fool. Seems like the XB360 dies if the wind blows the wrong direction... All this news just confirms that I made the right decision in not getting one...

Anyway - you XB360 users should do the following:
Set up a forum and get the persons who has bricked consoles log exactly what was the previous firmware version, software loaded last before the update. Sometimes updates depend on a specific previous version - for example many software cab be updated from the last major update, but not from two previous versions. Could also be modchip or modifications that can cause this. Try and get the precise state of the machine - controllers plugged in, peripherals attached at the time of the update etc. Software updates are like that - just keep a good lookout - and don't be the first one to update. And as much as I dislike the XB360, this will happen to the Wii and PS3 as well during their lifetime. Just a question of time and some right (wrong) combination of factors that will cause it. And with MS updates - check other software patches, it is very likely that it will fix something and kill something else.

All those people on the forum seem to be Xbox owners and they all got bricked after the update and if its true, it wouldnt be the first time would it?

From one of the posters (Jagtown) on the XBox forum. Hope this help the xbots. Guess you won't see much features on the XBox360 as any strain will cause it to overheat and die. That most probably will mean that games that really push the system will most probably cause more systems to brick. Anyway - good luck and hope this helps.

I had the same issue... here's my story / fix

I suffered a similiar fate as many other folks on this thread... My system never EVER had a problem (bought dec 06) and right after the update it locked up while i was watching a game trailer... then on dashboard... then on boot screen... then 3 red lights....

I almost had a heart attack.......... BOOM... off to the forums... I tried the 'check the power supply' / 'take out the hdd' etc etc.. even the towel trick... ( i wouldn't do that again.... ) and left it off till morning...

Fired 'er up in the morning... alive she came... back from the dead! Loaded up forza 2 and made it half way around the track... LOCKED SOLID....

Rebooted... got as far as game intro.. locked...

rebooted.. got to dash... locked...

Almost like a computer with the cpu fan stopped.... its fine after a few hrs off.. then it locks faster and faster till your locked solid in dos....

So I said.. its the heat... I tried repositioning the unit but no use.... until i took it out of my open cabinet (the same cabinet its been sitting in since December with no problem) and placed it vertical out in the wide open, next to a door with the window open... It loaded up fine.... played three forza 2 races.... (start practicing haha) ... it indirectly is the spring update.... It MUST put just that little much more strain on the system, generating that little bit more heat.... and just enough to overload the system UNLESS you put your system in a very good open / ventilated area....

I'm going to try a case fan... because i like it in my cabinet but bottom line ill put it in my friggin freezer if it means back to normal.. I cant exactly undo the update and i didn't get the extended warranty from futureshop....

so to one and all.... PUT YOU XBOX 360 OUT IN THE OPEN... i had mine set vertically... dont know if that helped... I'll stand on one foot if I have to.... hopefully your system will stop locking up and your red lights will disappear...

Well ill say this much, it seems that on most systems gamers have claimed that the UPDATE has shutdown the AA in certain games! I dont know if its true or not. All i know is that i am not updating my system anytime soon!

well.. 100 people on my friends list.. played with most of them since the update, none have issues.

...but I have been thinking of picking one up recently. The problem is, this kind of activity is not very attractive to a potential buyer. I own and play my PS3 with no problem what so ever. I even had a power outage in the middle of using my PS3 and it loaded up just fine when the power came back on. I am not trying to start a flame war, but to a potential future Microsoft customer, this is just pushing me back to deciding not to purchase a console after all. Seriousley, I read through the official Xbox forums and saw many complaints about this problem. Not to be a flamer, but has anyone had any hardware issues with the Playstation 3 so far?

My 360 was fine until the Spring update, then I had GPU problems with my screen becoming checkered and then finally the red rings of hell. The 360 is a great gaming machine but built well it is not, that's for damn sure/.

If a 360 is giving 3 red lights error, the error code should be looked at and known instead of just saying "aww the update killed my 360". Generally three red lights comes with error code 0102 which is generally caused by lame micro-soldering majorly around GPU.

Software updates do not unleash 360's extra core letting console produce more heat, they do not add more processing to dashboard when it's compared to the processing while you play games. The update most definitely can't harm the soldering points on your 360 board.

Well blame Microsoft for everything it's your right, if a hardware fails all of a sudden it's the producer's error unless you do something wrong. I'd understand a flash-gone-wrong, totally bricked console not booting at all, but systems getting out of order after the update? Well then it must be the time for your 360, not actually caused by update but actually caused by lame production in factories. Still Microsoft is the one to blame no matter what but just dont be ridiculous thinking that update does that.

That mart guy needs to shut his fat face, my 360 died last night because of the update, it was my second 360, The first one died of some random reason and now the second!!! Seriously, I think Microsoft has a problem updating XBOX360's. I don't think they know how. My 360 was killed twice from two different updates, with the Ring of Death. I ended up getting a refund from the store I got it from instead, because they said I had to pay like $60 dollars or something. That's bull.

When my PlayStation 3 was broken, they sent me a box, I got it within 2 days, sent it back for free, got it back in a week, brand new! My friend Matt is still waiting for his box from Microsoft, it's been around 2 weeks already he has been waiting.

Obviously MS would have put the update through its paces before releasing it so obviously their testing process is not what it should be. Its not like they have to test it on a multitude of hardware platforms and versions like they would a PC update.

However, what I find distressing is the stories of 360 owners stating that MS is requiring them to pay for damage that MS has caused. I find this disgusting. If a tradesman causes damage during a job then they are liable - not the customer!

My 360 is still under warranty and luckily the latest update has not caused any issues for me as yet. Oh yes, who else thinks a 4 week turn around for repairs is ridiculous?

I seriously doubt that the issue is as widespread as some members, like Bill Gates- who probably doesn't even HAVE a 360- or tk, would have you to believe. Hopefully this mess gets sorted out, although I myself haven't had any problems... If you click on the names of those posted, they were on Xbox Live as recently as today afternoon (2 PM EST in the US). Maybe that just a glitch/bug on the website because it would seem illogical for 360 users to post their issues with the Spring Update just for $hits and giggles.

For those that call BS right away ... on what basis? Because your 360 works? Listen, there might be a problem. It might be an isolated case with few users getting 'bricked'. The next 3 days will be telling if more users complain of this problem.

As much as I love my 360, system reliability is important to me. I get nervous every time an update is out and I don't have a MOD-360. The system is louder than my desktop PC + PS3 combined and it crashes on me once a week. I can live with the crashes and yes I do get three red rings but a quick reboot and I'm back up.

Not once has my PS2 or PS3 choked on me (knock on wood) and I've had the PS2 since launch. There is a problem here with system reliability with the 360 and anyone that ignores it is just plain blind.

For the people that had 360’s die on then I hope you get the help that you need. I haven’t had the my 360 die on me yet but It did freeze on me when I was playing GRAW 2 after the update, I hope it doesn’t die. I do believe that there is a problem with the design of the 360; I’m on my third one as well. The first keep freezing on start up and the second I got the red light of death. I’ve never had a problem with costumer service. But hey nothings perfect my PS3 has also tanked on me, it stop reading CD’s. The Wii, like my Game Cube, has never died on me.

going back tomorrow, I downloaded the update this afternoon, then setup the download for the Forza2 demo and left for dinner.

When I got back I fired up the demo and guess what? It worked, and on a release day system, no less.

You'd think MS, the mightiest of all software companies, could at least get these patches down. "i am dealing with the same issue now! i've called cust service and they want me to pay 140$ to have it repaired i've spent hours on the phone. this is obviously a microsoft issue and it should be fixed for free."

Then again, it's convenient that a lot of people have to spend $140 to fix their consoles after this update. All that cash flowing in will definitely boost Microsoft's quarterly revenue.

Has anybody thought about that maybe the 360's that are locking up are the ones of people who are game saving? If that is the case then I say GOOD! I hate cheaters and it would be about time Microsoft stepped up and took care of this issue. P.S. SONY SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

how come every time an update comes out there is a story about how it kills every 360 on earth.

I'm curious as to how many of the bricked 360's were running the hacked DVD firmware. THAT would make sense with updates constantly killing 360's.

Things like this are why I will only buy consoles from EB Games or GameStop... Their no-questions-asked extended warranty is GREAT!!!

I'm still on my lauch xbox 360 unlike the PS3 which I'm on my 5th and it keep overheating and melting down. J/K. I never owned a PS3... but that's all it takes for someone to spread rumors. First of all, if the 360 dies and you don't have an extended warranty (2 years like $60) the 360 comes with a 1 year warranty... and you don't have to pay not even shipping. Once microsoft fixes the console, it automatically gives you another year warranty in case it breaks again... So, NO to the fool that ask how people will be paying microsoft to fix the console. The answer is NOTHING.

Also, I said it the day the Update was released. Some xbox hater will come and come up with these stories.. well.. here we are. Predictable.

Well - I checked our local CNA store that have both a PS3 and XB360 display booth. Took photos of it - and guess which one has the "out of order" sign pasted over it?

Guess they ran the update. But seriously now - I think the XBox fans must chill out a bit. They are making all kinds of strange accusations against other people when the evidence on the XB forums are piling up. Don't be defensive - it makes you look stupid.

By now it is a known fact that the XB360 is one of the worst build consoles that bricks for any reason. But much of the problems seems to be heat related. Actually very easy to fix. Seems on some forums the one guy claimed he fixed six machines in his area by taking out the motherboard and replacing the insulation - and that it stopped the red ring of death.

What the XB360 fans should do is to start a petition to get MS to do that bit of work for free. Seems like they were a bit tightfisted and skimped with a very simple part. Force them to fix it. Since nearly everyone seems to be sending their XB360 back for repairs at least once during its lifetime, get them to fix it proper.

It had already been updated a few days ago so i dont think that was that cause. Needless to say I am very pissed off because its over a year old so its out of warrenty. Manufacture date: Novermber 2005.
I guess i'll have to pay for it to be fixed meanwhile I will buy the elite.

Ive never had any difficulty with my xbox360, and no doubt if i had id need to buy a new one cus its a great system. But it really worries me that someday it might break, i know there is a certain element of truth to these things. But People post all these things providing absolutely no evidence, id honestly say there are so many fanboys that wud actually go to length to do this to both companies. Which is horrible because its seriously damaging reputations of companies, which is negative for the games industry as a whole

Every error is always blown out of proportion. First off, we need a good poll to really know how common these problems are. A problem always seems more common than it is because, of course, you're only going to complain if you have a problem. Second, it's only been a week since the update came out.

It would be better if there were no problem at all, and a smaller and better organized company than Microsoft might have been able to fix any problems right away, but as it is we just need to give them time. I'm sure they tested the update plenty before it was rolled out, but if they tested it 1000 times and the error only happens in 1 out of 10,000 consoles, they still would be unlikely to find the error. When it comes to programming, quite often the only way to find errors is after the public comes accross them.

And it's not like their entire staff is going to drop everything on a weekend and go work round the clock to fix an error at the first forum post. It takes a while to be sure that it's really an error and not just user stupidity (the most common source of computer errors). And like bladestar said, rumors can be started by people who just hate the xbox.

What kills me are the XB fans trying to defend the fact that M$ does indeed have a problem with their hardware.....

that I hear beat the collective mantra of, "I've had mine for _____ months and it has never _________." There is an overwhelming and undeniable amount of owners that are having problems. I can see how this frustrates true MS fanboys, because hearing or seeing bad news about your system reflects on "you?" somehow, right?lol

a/w reality is perception and the perception is that MS hardware blows acid chunks. Don't believe me just ask the BBC and the millions who've been slayed by the ring of death.

I have yesterday from the problem with my elite that only has 12 days of bought was playing pgr3 and at the moment the textures of the city went away, esteem a window alongside straight of the screen because the machine not to be able to read that disc but that I put any I even dial says open tray all along

my ps3 died right after I got the 360 update. I am so pissed at sony now.
