Sony's Inconsistent PlayStation Network Prices

As the PlayStation Network is available in many countries with different currencies, it's natural that the prices of games and other content varies on the PlayStation Store. The games in North America are slightly cheaper than those in Europe and the UK, though this depends on the currency fluctuations. Earlier today, we came across a big discrepancy in Sony's pricing which has nothing to do with currency fluctuation.

if you call sudden price drops and sales "Inconsistent" prices then I'm more than happy with it! ;)

WildArmed6087d ago

lol. exactly, cry me a rivier -.-

GameGambits6087d ago

I sorta wish you could make a global Playstation Network account, so that everything from across all the Playstation stores was in that single one. Having 3 different region PSN ID's to travel to get all the content I want kinda stinks.

Also, gibs me all the Japan store PS1 classics! I needs more Xenogears Sony!

Blaze9296087d ago

Wasnt this a similar problem with the Games on Demand service when it launched with different prices depending on the regions and everyone was quick to run in and call Microsoft greedy doing the usual rip-off tactics they always do? So is Sony ripping people off too? Nah, I dont think so ;-)

AridSpider6087d ago

Of course not, only Microsoft can be accused of bring greedy people who like to rip people off. Never mind the region pricing of games.

/sarcasm

heroicjanitor6087d ago

So how is this their fault? Ms are accused of greed if a developer wants to make dlc free but MS insists on a price(and rightly so)

RememberThe3576087d ago

They may be involved but I don't see them having a huge role in third party pricing. You might want to get EA a ring about this one.

A better example would have been to compare the games that Sony publishes themselves on the PSN.

Time_Is_On_My_Side6087d ago (Edited 6087d ago )

If you know anything about the mainstream public they'll say something like, "You get what you pay for because not everything that is free is worth it" or something like that to keep the fantasy going. I say the best things in life are free, lol.

IdleLeeSiuLung6086d ago (Edited 6086d ago )

Yeah, but isn't MS the one footing the bill for bandwidth for the FREE DLC? So after the DLC is created, MS is the one footing the bill for the recurring cost.

Sony charges a fee $0.16 per Gigabyte downloaded to publishers....

PlayStation X6087d ago

he's right the whole world gets ripped off with odst expansion =/

betrayed gamer6087d ago

i still hate paying taxes on dlc

Biggunz6087d ago

PSN tax is determined by the State you live in not Sony.

betrayed gamer6087d ago

and sony should unify their system like msft

Cajun Chicken6087d ago

To buy MS points, there's still a different price point in the UK to everywhere else, so MS is no better. Everyone does something like this in some way or other, don't be thinking the points have a universal point value. Items can still be more expensive from XBL in some regions than other just because of the core price for the points, the actual MS point currency doesn't reflect the true price, the same for Nintendo on Wii.

Evocation6087d ago

MS points come across however has much more unified, 800points worldwide, even if 800points is worth something different. and with the new PSN card £20PSN doesn't =£20irl anymore.

EU has to pay more tax on games anyway which doesn't help with prices.

betrayed gamer6087d ago

yea but there is no tax added. so i look at it this way. 20 points i can spend exactly that on xbl, but if i buy a psn card i have to buy 2 if i want to get something worth 19.99. thats stupid

thereapersson6087d ago

There used to not be tax on things purchased from the PSN, but now it's a state-by-state thing.

Here in WA, I get taxed on PSN purchases.

sunil6087d ago

Are we taxed when we buy PSN cards? Or is it only when you from the PSN?

If its both, then it is not fair !

BaSeBaLlKiD7216087d ago

no you do not pay tax when you buy PSN cards. its $20 flat...

Jihaad_cpt6086d ago (Edited 6086d ago )

The tax is put into the price of the purchase it's self not when you load money, just like for MS. Stop being dumb please. For those saying it's not fair move out of your countries tax is used so you fools have things like streets, medical services and if you're a Brit of American to make sure your banks don't loose everything along with your plushy lives and retirements and 401k's (or what ever it's called if you live in the US)

How Burnout Paradise bucked the trend and made open-world racing irresistible

Met with derision from existing Burnout-series fans at the time, Burnout Paradise remains arguably the greatest open-world racing game of all time. Here's why.

SullysCigar1101d ago

I don't know why - and I know I'm probably on my own here - but I liked Takedown more. I think it was just 'different' enough to feel fresh. I also loved the destruction.

On that note, a new Motorstorm would be nice! All that mud, dust and car pieces flying everywhere blew my mind on PS3 - imagine what they could do now.

NJShadow1101d ago

I loved Burnout Paradise, but Burnout 3: Takedown will always be the best game in the series, for me. Burnout 3 is arguably the most fun game ever made, with the greatest licensed soundtrack ever.

EazyC1101d ago

I played through the remaster quite recently. It's not as good as I remember, but I think a lot of that is because the "open world" thing was still pretty fresh back then.

I do think there's a gap in the market for a game like Burnout. With the new gen they could really make car damage a huge selling point again.

BrainSyphoned1101d ago

Paradise gave me open world burnout before I knew it was a thing.

CPTN MITCHELL1101d ago

Burnout paradise remastered and original are my favorite, i got the platinum trophy for both games the nighthawk is my favorite car

Einhander19711101d ago

Personally don't give a shit for open world racers. Give me a new Motorstorm, Split second, Outrun.

I think the crash mode should comeback. Tryng to make the most damage was very cool.

camel_toad1751d ago

That mode was so damn fun. Couldn't believe it when they ditched it.

Flewid6381750d ago (Edited 1750d ago )

Agreed.

Flewid6381750d ago (Edited 1750d ago )

Yeah that made for a good time.

Rebel_Scum1751d ago

Burnout 2 should be above 3 imo. The aftertouch takedown mechanic slowed down the gameplay too much in 3.

Flewid6381750d ago

That's the mechanic that made me enjoy Burnout 3 over the others. It wasn't until they introduced it that I considered the series any good.

Chocoburger1750d ago

I love Takedown, Revenge, and Paradise. Dominator was okay, but it clearly felt like a B-tier game.

After playing those awesome games, I went back to try out part 1 and it was rough. I didn't like the controls (whereas the others felt perfect to me), the elevator music was generic and not enjoyable to listen to.

Finally the game's difficulty was extremely high. I could beat all single player races in Takedown, Revenge, Paradise, Dominator, but could not get first place in the very first race for the first Burnout game. It demands perfection and one slight mistake is all it takes to lose. I have yet to play part 2, but I'm hoping it's more like part 3 than part 1.

ChasterMies1750d ago

Burnout Takedown is my favorite racing game of all time. My wife was addicted to crash mode.

Xenial1750d ago

As soon as I saw Burnout 3: Takedown at #1, I knew the list was legit. lol
