Nothing new. Been done countless times in the past. I remember these types of efforts all the way back in the mid 1980s.

Komega6105d ago

Really, like what? just wondering

gamesR4fun6105d ago

not really bought it for ps3 lolz but the crack is out that fixes this was out pretty much same day they found it...

n ya this kinda anti piracy is great stuff lets hope they can make it unpatchable eventually...

Lumpyguy6105d ago

Well, for instance Mother 2/Earthbound for the SNES. If it detected a pirated copy of the game it would wait until the final boss, freeze the game and delete all your saves - among many other measures.

EA does this all the time with their games.

why is Rocksteady gettin this credit?

"ARMA 2 is protected by FADE DRM system developed by Macrovision. Unlike most other protections, FADE won’t throw and error message upon detecting a pirated copy. It will let you play the game normally and you’ll be overjoyed at first thinking that your hack or crack to bypass the protection actually worked. However FADE will disable game features one by one, eventually making it unplayable for the pirates (remember the drunk camera in GTA4?).

This is exactly what’s happening with ARMA2. For the few pirates who actually managed to get the game running (using the leaked image or using a non English copy) FADE is proving to be a tough nut to crack. According to posts on various gaming forums, pirates are experiencing problems with aiming (inaccurate aim/unable to aim left and right), camera issues such as locked or wobbly camera, useless bullets, weak AI, difficulty issues, control issues and so on (well some of these might be actual bugs with the game – there is no way to know).

Currently there is no crack that properly disables the FADE protection. Whatever fixes that are circulating on file sharing networks are either partially working solutions or fakes. Given the time consuming task of identifying and removing FADE triggers one by one, a working crack might not surface for a while anyway."

yep it's not new ... but unlike what the majority seems to think here , it isnt that smart of a move .

I mean in batman it's fun ... but many pirated copy users arent that knowledgable or involved enough to be aware of such things ...

What do you think can happen when a noobs pirate say batman here , experience what he thinks are bugs , and then gossip about it to friends . Said friends that could actually have been potential legit buyers .

Again if not aware or Arma and such means , you'll just assume the game is horribly buggy , and wont think it's because of piracy , but because the game itself is crap , and spread the bad word .

Not really, I am pretty sure some one will or already has found a way around it.

gamesR4fun6105d ago

yeh just check tpb for the new listing

Komega6105d ago

whether the hackers have beat the glitch or not Rocksteady should get an A+ for effort and I hope this form of anti-piracy continues to improve!

HDgamer6105d ago

Lol I can tell you're really new to this. Developers have been doing this for years. It's just a shame that you didn't know that lawl.

Pandamobile6105d ago

Yeah, Crysis Warhead had a weird one too. If you used certain No-DVD patches, your guns would fire chickens.

Mikelarry6105d ago

the person that did came up with the chicken idea is a genius should be given an award i mean what other way to piss off a pirate GENIUS i tell you.

Pandamobile6105d ago

Well, it wasn't really a good anti-piracy measure. I just used the No-DVD patch so I didn't have to switch my disks around (I do this for all my games)

And only one of the No-DVD patches I've tried did this.

ZombieNinjaPanda6105d ago

Not sure if that would piss off a pirate, hell I would download that just to shoot the chickens :)

Then again, since it's for pc, could always just mod it to be like that.

WaitStation 36105d ago (Edited 6105d ago )

Hey panda, no beef but it's not too long before you get to play Batman: AA huh?

rofl

Pandamobile6105d ago

Yep, a real HD resolution, higher quality textures, higher poly counts in the models and hardcore PhysX physics.

Not to mention it's $10 cheaper.

A three week delay is fine with me.

sxpacks6105d ago

Would have been smarter if they removed one of the gadgets
Like explosive gel or the frequency scanner thing.

That way the pirate doesn't know if his copy is good or bad until he's played a good while.

nightelfmohawk6105d ago (Edited 6105d ago )

It's still hilarious, and obviously it's the PC fanboys and Bots that are pirating this game since PS3 has blu-ray, which hasn't been hacked for PS3 games yet or not nearly as much as for other systems.

Edit: whoops, meant to agree, not disagree, but I'm on my palm pre lol.

Pandamobile6105d ago

You think the disk drive is this only thing stopping piracy on the PS3?

Wow...

sunil6105d ago

Well without the glide, you cannot cross the room with the poison gas. You are pretty much stuck.

Komega6105d ago

WOuld have been cool if they just disabled Batman's attacks. That way the pirate walks up to a thug and keeps getting punched in the face:)
