Much of the gaming media is having to do face saving and damage control over the garbage they spread over the past 2.5 years about the PS3.

Instead of just owning up to the garbage and lies they spewed they take the easy way out and just pretend that suddenly Sony and the PS3 have 'turned things around' and expect people just to nod their heads as if everyone already doesn't know that:

Everyone who visits the neogaf forums is in absolute astonishment over how vgchartz still has fans of a certain console clinging to the sites fake sales numbers.

It is mind boggling that there are people who still think some kid running a website is tracking weekly sales in France, and South America, all 50 US states, and the UK, and...

The Sony haters still angry over various Playstation consoles killing off their favorite console.

The clueless, yes.

But there is also the media who so desired the PS2 to fail back in 2000. That was the story they wanted to write: "Arrogant Sony coming off 105 million PS1 sales blows it with the PS2" and "Microsoft's billions buy their way into the console market"

After close to 140 million PS2 sales the media never did get to write that story. They tried like mad but eventually had to give up. They really thought they were going to finally get their opportunity to write that 'Sony Fails' story they were denied some eight years ago with the PS2.

The massive sales of the PS3 at 299 looks like they are throwing in the towel and just giving up on the Sony/Playstation FUD.

You guys are correct. Despite the big advantages that MS had this gen they haven't done enough imo with regards to unit sales.

What people forget is that unlike last gen MS had 25 million xbox users to count on this gen unlike last gen when they came in new. On top of this they had a whole year by themselves and they cut support for the xbox which forced alot of xbox owners to migrate to the x360 immediately.

MS got most of the big PS2 exclusive franchise on their consoles with added DLC as well as diversifying their game collection with most of JRPG's and yet after nearly 4 years they will only manage to sell 7 million more than they did with the xbox. Not good if you ask.

Alot of us long time PS fans were scratching our heads and wonder what the heck Sony was doing in the first two years of the PS3. It was quite uncharacteristic of Sony to be not aggressive like they use to. It's as if they were just mucking around with the competition. Now we are seeing Sony of old. Cold and calculated. Its as if like Sony is saying. Its now time to play. Nin and MS are going to be in a world of hurt in coming years. If people think this is good. Just wait when the PS3 reaches $199. You guys are going to see something else. Mark my words.

Have the PS3 be the third fastest selling console in history
Humiliate the competition in graphical power
Flex their manufacturing muscle in getting the PS3's cost to where it is actually cheaper to make than the Xbox 360's underpowered junk hardware
Land the biggest exclusive in all of gaming - Rockstar North's heir to the GTA franchise
Have massive success with the gigantic 8 million user Home online world that has every major publisher pumping out exclusive content for

All that BEFORE the 299 PS3 Slim and God of War 3/GT 5/Last Guardian etc.

Looking back over the past two years it's like Sony has been playing the console market on God Mode.

GRAND THEFT AUTO III, VICE CITY, AND SAN ANDREAS. Grand Theft Auto is the reason why the PS2 succeeded. All those other games were great but as a system seller? No.

Grand Theft Auto outsold Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec. Did you guys start out with the PS2 Slim to leave out the power of the GTA franchise just because it also came out on Xbox? Pffft!

While all the buzz were around Halo 2 & Metal Gear Solid 2, GTA III came out from nowhere AND DESTROYED THE COMPETITION.

Were you ps3 fans even here when the ps2 was released? You do understand that about this time in the life cycle the ps2 had almost double the units sold as the ps3? The Ps3 will not surpass the ps2.

Although the price cut is going to be amazing for ps3 sales it just will not catch up to what the ps2 did last generation. I believe it is just to far behind where the ps2 was at.

on 3rd party support is stupid. They have done well. Anyone with half a brain can see that. They managed to virtually get all once exclusive 3rd party franchise on the x360. I don't need to list them.

However compare to Sony its still not as good. That is true. It only took Sony one gen to get all these franchise on the PS.

Sony hasen't been as aggressive as they used to until now. I have followed Sony since the PS1. To be honest they have been quite quiet for this first 2 1/2 years compare to previous gens. I attributed this to my man Crazzy Ken not being around anymore but for the first 2 years it seems that Sony were just mucking around. No more outrageous statements, very little advertisement, letting 3rd party exclsuives go, letting MS and Nin get a free pass in everything. Now i see the Sony of old.

@ PS3is4. Thats is BS. The PS2 didn't win because of GTA. The PS never relied on one particular game to win a console gen. It relied on its collection of games to win just like the PS1.

@Goomba12. Difference is by now the PS2 would have been 199 with 299 launch price and MGS2,GT3,FF10,GTA all out. Only MGS4 is out for the PS3. The PS3 is tracking the same as the PS1. However i believe it will sell just as fast as the PS2 once its at 199.

Where Microsoft actually had a real Metal Gear Solid last gen, they now have worse support from Konami with their complete failure to get MGS4 and instead ended up with some joke 'action spinoff' game.

Also, the mind numbingly stupid 'which graphics card does teh PS3 have' from long ago are as painful to read through as having to listen to your grandmother recite hardcore hiphop lyrics.

If you want to know which 150 dollar graphics card is best for you home computer, beyond3d is a good place.

If you want to have BS spewed at you to reassure you that all those people going crazy over the latest PS3 exclusive's graphics are all wrong and the 360 could 'easily hand the same', beyond3d is a good place.

If you actually want to understand the amazing world of console graphics hardware and engine design, beyond3d isn't just useless it actively makes you stupider.

What is amazing about the Xbox fans who still cling to beyond3d is that you would think that even someone completely technically illiterate would at some point stop and ask themselves: "Why is everything I read at this site completely contradicted by reality and what the rest of the gaming world is seeing with their own eyes?"

You would think any rational person would ask themselves that. Even if they desperately, desperately wanted to believe the 360 was in the same league graphically as the PS3.

It is understandable that before the PS3 launched that many 360 fans would embrace the dopes at beyond3.com since it feed them what they wanted to believe. Find no big deal.

But as the PS3 came out with exclusive after exclusive that utterly destroyed everything on the 360 that even the most hardcore 360 fan would just move on to some face saving rationalization like "I never really cared about graphical power anyways, I just care about gameplay"

You have to wonder how the dwindling number of Xbox fans still clinging to beyond3d don't realize just how desperately delusional they look to the rest of the gaming world.
