From a sleek design to a $299 price point, Sony Corp.'s new Playstation 3 Slim hardware looks to replicate the launch success of its top-selling predecessor, the Playstation 2. From re-branding to re-launching, the PS3 Slim may inherit the success of the PS2.

Square Enix launches Final Fantasy X 25th anniversary site, revealing new Nomura art, books, music releases, and merchandise.
Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.
They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

A brutal reset, a smarter story, and a return to what made it great—Mortal Kombat (2011) revived the series.
15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.
Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.
More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.
Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.
All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
Gee...you think so???
Heh, absolutely hilarious.
Let's just recap where we are right now:
Sony's first console the Playstation sold 105 million worldwide and became the most successful console in history up to that point.
The Dreamcast came out and virtually none of those PS1 owners were interested.
The PS2 came out(too expensive, 'hard teh program', Dreamcast games look better, Sony can't decide if it is a media machine or a gaming machine, sound familiar?)
The PS2 went on to sell 139 million worlwide and become the most successful console in history.
The Xbox came out when the PS2 had some 20 million sold worldwide. Since that time gamers have had the choice of a Playstation or an Xbox. 120 million of them didn't want what Microsoft had to offer and once again embraced Sony's console.
And now with the PS3 down to 299 those 139 million PS2 owners are upgrading. 1080p HD TVs are finally cheap. The Xbox 360 has been 200 dollars for a year now and those tens of millions of PS2 owners didn't want it anymore this gen than they did last gen.
The only wildcard is the Wii and what its price cut will bring.
139 million gamers bought the PS2 for:
Gran Turismo
Metal Gear Solid
Ratchet and Clank
Naughty Dog Games
Atlus/NIS Games
SOCOM
Killzone
Singstar
God of War
Level 5 Games
etc.
Every single one of those developers is making next gen versions of their franchises or new franchises for the PS3. And the same broad third party support the PS2 had across all three regions the PS3 has this gen.
There isn't a single game that those 139 million gamers bought PS2s for that isn't appearing on the PS3 this gen. Maybe Ace Combat, heh.
So you have every game franchise PS2 owners bought the system for.
The biggest graphical advantage a console has ever had in a generation over its competitiors
The amazing creativity of PSN titles
Free online play for everyone
Lagfree dedicated servers
1080p lossless audio Blu-Ray movies standard
The incredible Home online world with millions of people on it and huge amounts of content being added from game developers every month.
Incredible reliability
Almost completely silent when running
Wifi standard
Cheap and easy harddrive upgrades
Standard keyboard and mouse support
Bluetooth
Webbrowser built in
PSP integration with the PS3
above and beyond what those 139 million gamers bought PS2s for.
the PS3 well inherit the PS2 success
yes
and the xbox 360 well inherit the original xbox success
oh wait
PS3 turns 3 this fall in NA/JP and in March 2010 for Europe/PAL. It really has just begun for traditional gamers and PS3 will deliver for 5+ more years. It's exciting.
xbox has nothing beyond halo its the same sh!t every year gamers where waiting for a escape.now since the PS3 is at a affordable price that only means nothing but dominance from Sony as usal.
Unlike previous gens, this is the first gen where you have a site that is entirely dedicated to putting out fake sales figures, vgchartz.
Previous gens everyone just used the most recent shipment figures from companies. But this gen you now have a site run by an Xbox fan who is actively putting out laughably bogus numbers.
Those lies about sales worked back when total console sales were in the 5-10 million range. Vgchartz was able to massive inflate 360 sales numbers by passing off shipment figures as actual sales figures. 1-2 million 360s that were sitting on store shelves or in warehouses added to the actual sales numbers was able to give the appearance of the 360 doing significantly better than the first Xbox. But now as the worldwide sales numbers have gotten higher, those stupid lies vgchartz spreads are no longer having much of an effect. Right now vgchartz taking on an extra 1-2 million to the 360's worldwide installed base just doesn't have the same effect when they were doing the same thing two years ago.
