PS3 Powers Cinemas

A chance observation by 2ch has led to the surprising discovery that some Japanese movie theatres are actually playing their films from PS3s.

The tale begins with a 2ch denizen's visit to a Sendai cinema, where the audience's viewing of Kara no Kyoukai was rudely interrupted by the appearance of an onscreen warning to recharge their controller.

Opinion was quickly split as to whether this was a fine advertisement of the PS3's capabilities or a rather miserly move on the part of the cinema.

A number of cinemas are apparently using this method, though it might be hoped they are rather more careful about keeping their controllers charged…

yep, short of cooking you breakfast, the PS3 is the only true Next gen console this gen that covers all your home entertainment needs. Much more to come! This is only the beginning.

Redempteur6079d ago

I have to admit that i prefer wtaching my 1080p movies ( found on the internet ) on my ps3 rather than on my pc

pharmd6079d ago

how sweet would that be to throw down some COD or something on there, when nobody's there....

would be a hella job!

Reibooi6079d ago

Well I went to go see Evangelion 1.0 at the theater and it was a indie theater and they were using the Blu-ray on a PS3 to play the movie which i found quite amusing I thought it would have been on a film but i guess not.

wxer6079d ago

now this in here is a proof that the PS3 is the ultimate entertainment HUB

Ravage276079d ago

unless you want to burn your house down, then you'll probably want to get a xbox instead :p

They weren't kidding when they said it's future proof. Cinema's being powered by a PS3, nice!

Not to mention helping with cancer research by using Folding @ Home.

Insomnia_846079d ago

If it was the other console, the onscreen message would've been "E74"

ThanatosDMC6078d ago

HAHAHAH! Great news, but funny that someone forgot to plug the controller. It must have been laying around for 5-8 hrs not needing batteries... ahem.

lol that is so awesome!!!

Imagine playing games on a cinema screen :O

outlawlife6079d ago

it isn't nearly as fun as you think

the school i went to had a theater in which during down time they would hold tournaments for various games

without a doubt a television is way more fun, you get past the novelty of the giant screen really fast

Moentjers6079d ago

Kinepolis group (Flanders) makes it possible to hire the huge theaters to play your game of choice on the PS3...

I hate to bring halo into this (because I don't care for it) but there was a theater local to me that was doing birthday parties where they split a movie theater screen into 4 person multiplayer halo tournaments. Cool idea, too bad split screen is a dying form.

Moentjers6079d ago

I've been hoping once that the PS3 would contain 2 video outputs so you could connect 2 screens to play together in the same room but without being able to see the other's actions.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle3d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde10d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
