Seriously dude who wrote this should grow up...I'm sick of all these people generalizing others , what about that adult guy who couldn't afford a PS3 until the recent price drop?? Or whatever situation ....and yes there will be more kids, but you know what else? There will be more adult, chicks...etc. So why complain??? I've met some cool kids on PSN...take Nick McCandless, head of the gameraccess.com, he's only 16!!!!!! Yet, Iove him like a bro and guess how I met him??? What a damn waste of a read. I thought it would be about something completely different, like why the new PS3 matters to existing owners in a good way. I thought he would touch on the PS3 getting the recognition it deserves now, or more sales equaling more support, yada yada, but he just said a lot of nothing.

well, since the whole party system was added to live i think most lobbies have got a lot quieter. prob half the rooms i do into now, nobody talks because everyone is in a party talking with their frined so you can't hear them.

and as many have pointed out if someone is getting on your nerves just mute them. it works on live, it works on psn.

This is true. But as Sony sells more and gains more profit, we also get more games, services, firmware updates and even more friendly, hardcore players to form clans with, and be rid of all the foul-mouthedness.

The first way is to do like many have already stated and simply mute the problem child. (Lets face it, the person is a "chlid" regardless of their age). But the second remedy is something that I'm not sure if the majority of PS3 gamers are aware of it's function or effectiveness; certainly the author of the article is unaware of its existence. This all empowering method is the 'BLOCK LIST' that is under the "Friends" icon on the XMB. Simply click on a persons name, press 'add to blocked list' and voila. Not only does this function block all and any type of messaging (yes even text messaging), but surprisingly, it seems to filter these people so that you are prevented from running into them in future rooms. I currently have a slew of blocked people on my list from Soul Caliber 4 mainly. (People HATE losing in fighting games and always send hate mail for some reason). Whenever I search for a room, if one of the people are on my blocked list, the PSN will not connect me with that room. As a result of this, I have had no interaction with the 41 'children' on my blocked list. I hope some of you use this power wisely. ;-)

Love it or hate it, what Mike said is true. During the two and a half years that I've owned my PS3, I've dealt with few to no bad experiences on PSN (not saying all is perfect). I can even add that the experiences I've had with fellow onliners have actually change my perception of online gameplay - of which I used to be partial to single player games. Now with the increase in sales, there's the unfortunate potential of more annoyances occurring on the PSN as a result. But on the bright side of the equation, like most others have mentioned, there also exists the potential of seeing more and better quality games, instead of PS3 owners seeing half-assed efforts in multi-platform games from developers.

As anything gains in popularity, you get more of the immature & annmoying kids just because of numbers. You have to take the good with the bad.

But in the long run, wide consumer support for a product, and tense competition between brands on competing products is good for consumers. It means there will be lots more cool games to come.

Yeah you get some annoying kids but mostly atm its ok. But soon many online games will become full of annoying kids, whos parents let them play anything.

And I kow its not their fault, but for some reason they all believe that they MUST SPEAK ALL THE TIME, and after a while their whiny voices get annoying , someone tells them to shut up and little kid has a fit, and suddenly we find that this 12 year old knows every swearword in the book and has decided to show this by swaering for the rest of the game...

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
