Firmware 3.00 Q&A

Mark Bowles – PS3 Brand Manager on Official EU PlayStation Blog:

"Many of you have been asking why we haven't responded to your complaints about last week's 3.0 update until now. Sorry it's taken us a while to get back to you – this is obviously an emotive subject and there have been a lot of issues raised surrounding the release, so we wanted to make sure we could come back to you with a comprehensive response that answers your most frequently asked questions."

Well at least they're trying.

LiquifiedArt6091d ago

that was pretty pointless.

More "Non-Answers".

The only useful one was that they know about the uncharted freezing problem and are working on a fix.

Glyn_Dwr6091d ago

that they were going to be very general and selective in the ways in which they answered their questions! They havn't told us anything we don't already know!

Thanks anyway...I guess

Karum6091d ago

Did you even read the answer to that exact issue/question?

Here's how you do it.

"The PS3 extended the upsampling capability to audio tracks stored on HDD and storage media with v3.00. Some function on the XMB such as the internet browser and photo gallery outputs with 48KHz only so you need to set audio outputs as 48Khz to enjoy music and net surfing."

Just go into the audio options and set it to 48Khz, problem sorted.

Redempteur6091d ago

Just like Karum said Just change your settings ...

Mine was already in 48kz so i never got this problem really ..

BUt Do people really miss the "PLaystation 3" startup ? when i start a game i jump right into it ...No need for that intro ( i've seen it countless times already ... )

The uncharted 1 freezing issue is the proof that uncharted 1 REALLy was using untaped power in the playstation 3 ... I guess they even took too much

They have answered some, but there are still many questions which they haven't answered!

Friends List seemed to be completely off the agenda, and the Jingle when the game list looks odd, and i haven't noticed a change in loading times.

I fear sony is turning into nintendo... Never listening

-EvoAnubis-6091d ago

There's no way I could possibly disagree with you more. The ENTIRE 2.7 update was comprised of things that we fans specifically asked for.

hindahouse6091d ago

Yes, but i am saying they are starting to turn into, as you can see from the answers theres still many unanswered questions, users want customisations, and i hope sony brings it.

Dont get me wrong, Sony has done many things in the firmwares, i have never had a problem with any of the previous ones, but this one even got me annoyed. Mainly because basically all the features were not asked for.

-EvoAnubis-6091d ago

You have to understand that in addition to what people are asking for, they also have plan for what they want their console to be able to do. It's not all about what you want, but to say that they're not listening is downright idiotic. If they weren't listening and asking for our feedback, the PlayStation.Blog wouldn't exist.

hindahouse6091d ago

Hmm, Well i see your point, but i feel they have gone down hill on the listening front recently. Remember 1,500 comments i think it was on the US blog.. no reply. They alsi haven't brought in the wanted features like In game voice chat etc.

-EvoAnubis-6091d ago

When has there EVER been replies to firmware posts on the PSB? Just because they're not replying on the spot doesn't mean they're not paying attention. Obviously our responses need to be compiled and sent to the firmware team in JPN so that they can be addressed. Why would they respond one at a time when the time could be better used to simply address the concerns by fixing them?

That doesn't even make sense.

DigitalEnemy6091d ago

Well its seems Sony cherry picked the questions to suit the answer's they only wanted to give. Im from the UK so im curious to see what the surprise is they have instore for us on this weeks psn store update though (prob both LBP and Afrika themes).
I think this blog update leaves even more questions unanswered....

Sony - revert back to 2.8 until you have actually something decent in it to call it 3.0 ( voice chat/ in game music )

-EvoAnubis-6091d ago

You know, if you tried, you could probably think of a dumber idea, but you'd REALLY have to try.

Max Power6091d ago

They managed to answered most of the complaints except the friend list, but my complaint was the size of the icons and text, but at least they are looking into making it optional.

mrv3216091d ago

They allready have in-game music.... I've been using it for a while :P

Also I don't know if you know or not but quite a few MILLION people have allready asked for in-game chat, Sony do know and they are not ignoring you no matter how much I or they try.

They are working on in-game chat it's been said countless times these things can't be rushed.

josuttis6091d ago

Yep, the replies were perfect.

Sounds like we will be able to change the menu text back.

The freezing problem was related to only Uncharted.

It would be nice if they had some notification for people who have their sound output set incompatibly with webbrowsing though.

Ravage276091d ago

except that they seem to ignore the complaints about the ugly friend boxes. Maybe those boxes are related to the incoming avatars??

Peter North6091d ago

Great job by Mark Bowles of Sony Computer Entertainment

ZBlacktt6091d ago

Yeah, I hope they fix that UnCharted issue, lol. Because soon UnCharted 2 will be here.

Arsenal4Ever6091d ago

lol is that what they call Q and A? I want that PlayStation 3 Chime darn it! =]

hindahouse6091d ago

I have been commenting on the blog saying we should spam the comment section constantly about the chime! I dont think they relise how much people want it back, with its original font too (would look very odd to have the new PS3 logo with my 60GB, just like the console start up does)

NewZealander6091d ago

only just got my slim on launch day so i dont know what the chime everyone is going on about is, my main problem is not knowing when im going to be able to play uncharted again.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle14d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde21d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

Soy22d ago

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.

PlayStation legend Shuhei Yoshida says Jim Ryan fired him because he didn't listen to him

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.

Relientk7723d ago

Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga23d ago

It should be free highway for him now.. but Sony are too stupid to see this, especially that moron Hulst

S2Killinit22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

Wtf why all that anger. PlayStation is dominating on every level. Besides I think there is a little more to hiring a CEO than just who is available. Its not like its a athlete your team wants to buy.

neutralgamer199222d ago

S2Killinit

live service failures, chasing trends, closing studios. yes dominating

Cacabunga22d ago

Sony is Dominating because competition is not existing. Compared to previous gens this is the poorest in terms of software offerings.

Last gen we got Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy and TLOU2 from ND alone.

This is so far a remasters gen, with no competition to lift up the quality

1nsomniac22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

..."PlayStation is dominating on every level"....

...Really???

PlayStation are soon heading into a new generation in the not to distant future. They currently have the worst customer satisfaction they've ever sustained as a company. The company is heading for a huge crash while at the same time they'll need to be planning how they are going to try and win back that favour and the build up to their new releases.

Yes financially they're winning but they're going to have to ride out this complete public corporate disaster. No one has faith in the company or the product anymore. They've damaged their public image so much this generation. Greed can kill anyone.

medman22d ago

Hulst is a disaster......

blacktiger22d ago

He would've done the same thing and fire Jim Ryan and Shuhei would be the villain. Why?
Because Elite creates the narrative and distraction for gamers, users and citizens.

Outside_ofthe_Box23d ago

More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.

robtion22d ago

Yep. Yoshida was responsible for bringing one of the best games of this generation to playstation (Stellar Blade). He is an actual gamer and is in touch with what gamers want (creative, fun games, not GaaS and agenda pushing). He also seems like a genuinely nice guy if you watch some interviews. Of course they got rid of him.

darthv7223d ago

Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.

Agent7522d ago

Microflop. After Windows XP and Xbox 360, it all went floppy.

S2Killinit22d ago

Floppy 😆
No pun intended

badz14923d ago

Yoshida for President! Jim Ryan was and always be a hack! Sony should get Shu back

Lightning7723d ago

All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
