Change the PS3 startup destination

PS3 Blog writes:

"Lets face it. The new firmware 3.0 has not made the greatest of impressions amongst the PS3 community after reading the official blog as well as seeing numerous comments on this blog its evident users are not happy with all the changes. One of the biggest annoyances is that upon start up you are now presented with a 'What's new' page which is advertising the PS Store, instead of launching in the game menu. Fortunately you can change this by.."

It wasn't perfect, but it wasn't as bad as people are making it out to be. It almost feels like the PS3 platform itself is in a perpetual Beta mode. one year, you're barely getting full HD games, next year you have 3d head tracking in full HD. Yet the Firmware still has little issues and whatnot, the features keep getting better and better.

Here's to the rumored 3.01 update. Hopefully that can make a few people happy.

chaosatom6125d ago (Edited 6125d ago )

Although having a option to adjust it should be there.

Also making some free dyanamic themes would seriously make it a better update. I am sure they are coming sooner or later.

If sony actually did cross-game chat and invite, then would people stop whining? I don't think so. There is always something to be desired.

vickers5006124d ago

@chaostorm

You act like people whining for more features is a BAD thing. If not very many people whined, then we wouldn't have any cool features. Hell we wouldn't even have in game text messaging or the new God of War remakes.

People who complain about whiners piss me off, because when you post in the forums where the devs see those kind of comments, you are holding back the progression of a console. Unless you want them to have it easy and not have them work at all, which you would only want if you personally knew them, but I doubt that any of you do.

Maybe people think their console is so perfect that they don't need any more features, and they just get a smug sense of satisfaction from thinking it's "good enough the way it is". Seriously, stop complaining about the complainers trying to make PSN better. That's fine if you don't/won't use things like in game voice chat / cross game invites, but that doesn't mean the rest of us wont, and you shouldn't try to tell sony they don't need to, because you're ruining it for the rest of us, on a matter that has no effect on you other than you are too lazy to read a couple of extra comments on a forum or message board (since the general gripe with people wanting more features is so they can stop filling up the comments section of an article, causing the discussion to go nowhere, when in reality, there is no real discussion here in the comments section of n4g, there are just statements, and bullsh*t commenting rules that force you to agree with everyone else and be the exact same as them if you want to be able to comment more than once, because if you state an opinion that the rest of the site does not share, like I don't like *most popular game on n4g at the moment*, then you only get to talk once, and then everyone calls you an idiot and claims how superior and individual they are in comparison to you, while telling you how much of an idiot you are for not liking that game).

But anyways, get over the extra comments about improving the psn. God forbid you actually have to read. Plus once they add those features, I'm positive no more features will be asked for on a scale that of x-gamechat/x-gameinvites. Just a small minority asking for stupid a** things like netflix, twitter and facebook, but there will not be many of those.

Kind of went off in there, lol but things need to change. And yes, they definitely need to give you the option to change the fonts and icons back to normal, Sony acts like we are 3 year olds or old people.

SnuggleBandit6124d ago

ya the big icons are grew on me...i think i didn't like it at first just because it wasn't what I was used to seeing all the time. Now, i don't even notice.

GameGambits6124d ago

The only thing I've been griping at from Sony's online is the lack of the cross game voice chat/party feature. The only people who will still be trying to complain about Sony's online or other features will be 360 only owners.

My Xbox Live just recently ran out, because my credit card expired so it needs new updated information. However, I just don't see the point in 50 bucks down the hatch when all I use my Xbox for IS party chat to talk to people who are playing offline games or playing with me on a PS3 multiplayer game.

Every part of me keeps begging for this feature or some work around, and I do believe people say the only reason it's taking Sony forever to do anything about it is because Microsoft patented online voice chat for gaming consoles or something like that. Sony should just either A) Pay them the small fee and get over it or B) Find a work around using Ad-Hoc program.

To explain B a bit more from my above paragraph all they have to do is make Ad-hoc run in the background of your PS3 or just through the XMB alone once you pick a room. It tech is a program that lets you link up your PSP to play with people around the world while using keyboard and voice chat in up to a 4-8 person room, so if they could find a way to minimize it then that would be their work around that patent.

Oh no!!!!

When I turn on the playstation I have to stare at the "what's new" icon for half a second before I gingerly press the left analog stick and launch my game.

What ever shall I do, the world is ending. Damn you!!! Damn you Sony!!! I can't believe you'd try to aesthetically improve your free playstation network.

Well, that's it, I've had it. If Sony doesn't change things back to the way they were before firmware 3.00, I'm going to burn my playstation and all of my games

/sarcasm

thereapersson6125d ago

Don't you know? This generation is home to some of the laziest, most spoiled gamers ever. Heaven forbid something as simple as what you said (you know... pressing the stick over if you don't like it) should have to happen!

Bunch of crybabies, they are.

GamerPS3606125d ago

I am not so sure but I think I turned that What's new display feature off and it works.

OrganicMachine6125d ago

that these spoiled gamers are crying for innovation when they don't have a fraction of knowledge to how FraAAking hard it is to create a games, and that the developers are constantly beating their nuggets on solving these things just so they can feed these fat spoiled brats something that they might NOT want..

I hate spoiled kids, when I have my Own, i'll smack his/her face when they cry for something that I didn't want them to..

orakga6125d ago

I'm one of those who felt very offended by the new shove-it-down-the-throat PSN advertising tactic. Here are my reasons:

1) I actually spent money to download that dynamic LBP theme ($2.99), and when I boot up my PS3, I don't want it starting up on some ugly-ass teal-colored advertising screen.

2) Sony has had its head stuck up with marketing ass for almost three years now. First it was HOME (just a huge marketing vehicle for Sony's affiliates), then it was the VIDEO store, then this. Seriously, if they'd just focused on improving the PS3 as a GAMING MACHINE from the beginning, we would have had a pristine and robust Firmware by now. So all of these marketing tricks do nothing but tick me off, as someone who's been supporting and hoping for Sony to wake the hell up.

3) I CAN be a grateful gamer, when gratitude is due. IMO, the latest firmware upgrade deserved as much compliment as it did criticism. So stop with these holier-than-thou attitude you pricks.

Panthers6125d ago

Crying about it being on the Whats New icon when starting is ridiculous. Just hit the analog stick over once and boom, its gone. I mean come on people!

orakga6125d ago

... if it was just the startup icon, and your background showed behind the icon, then I wouldn't complain. Yeah, sure I would be more than happy to just flick the analog stick in the direction I want to go.

But the DAMN BLUE WALL OF ADS is annoying a hell!!!

Are you to tell me that you REALLY don't mind that screen?
What's your background/theme anyway?

aaronisbla6125d ago

not seeing how its that annoying, but diffrent strokes

saint_john_paul_ii6124d ago (Edited 6124d ago )

the firmware is not forcing you to buy things. its just there to give you the option if you are interested in getting/buying stuff, which is optional to look at. all you have to do is to change it in the settings section.

at the end of the day its not bothering no one. the PSN is a free service as well. XBL forces you to see ads all over the place every time you move that analog stick, despite paying $50/year. so whats the complaints about?

i can understand:

-the ugliness of big icons
-the lack of big features like X-game chat
-the games freezing up cause of the update
-the stupidiness of the redesigned friends list

but complaining cause of ads in the way, which are optional to look at? then wow, your dumb. i acutally like the whats new section. they just have to show some different on it, other than stuff like this, for example, show people who use the PSN on the regular basis, or that new reality series about being "the tester" via streaming, just to make it similar to NXE.

Silly Mammo6124d ago

PSN being a free service, I can put up with some advertising. I think this type thing is a pretty basic marketing model.

OrganicMachine6125d ago

they're letting you know what's new @ PSN so you would send your dollars on it..

However, it's not forcing you to (It's just telling you that they have stuff), and you only have yourself to blame if you buy something because you fell for it OR maybe you wanted it, who knows, ONLY YOU DO.

chaosatom6125d ago (Edited 6125d ago )

Maybe ppl will find something they will like.

shutupandplay6125d ago

The best ps3 destination is a trash can.

CernaML6125d ago

Your name is very ironic. How is that paperweight of yours doing?

The_Zeitgeist6125d ago

It's better than starting it up and getting the Madden theme blaring at you. I really wish EA would lower the volume for that. It scares children.

pcflynn896124d ago

just group your icons by pressing square.

this does two things
1. prevents any loud music (like madden theme) from playing when you first start up your ps3 and
2. cleans up your xmb so it looks nice and neat.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle46d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

PlayStation legend Shuhei Yoshida says Jim Ryan fired him because he didn't listen to him

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.

Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga55d ago

It should be free highway for him now.. but Sony are too stupid to see this, especially that moron Hulst

S2Killinit54d ago (Edited 54d ago )

Wtf why all that anger. PlayStation is dominating on every level. Besides I think there is a little more to hiring a CEO than just who is available. Its not like its a athlete your team wants to buy.

neutralgamer199254d ago

S2Killinit

live service failures, chasing trends, closing studios. yes dominating

Cacabunga54d ago

Sony is Dominating because competition is not existing. Compared to previous gens this is the poorest in terms of software offerings.

Last gen we got Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy and TLOU2 from ND alone.

This is so far a remasters gen, with no competition to lift up the quality

1nsomniac54d ago (Edited 54d ago )

..."PlayStation is dominating on every level"....

...Really???

PlayStation are soon heading into a new generation in the not to distant future. They currently have the worst customer satisfaction they've ever sustained as a company. The company is heading for a huge crash while at the same time they'll need to be planning how they are going to try and win back that favour and the build up to their new releases.

Yes financially they're winning but they're going to have to ride out this complete public corporate disaster. No one has faith in the company or the product anymore. They've damaged their public image so much this generation. Greed can kill anyone.

medman54d ago

Hulst is a disaster......

He would've done the same thing and fire Jim Ryan and Shuhei would be the villain. Why?
Because Elite creates the narrative and distraction for gamers, users and citizens.

Outside_ofthe_Box55d ago

More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.

robtion54d ago

Yep. Yoshida was responsible for bringing one of the best games of this generation to playstation (Stellar Blade). He is an actual gamer and is in touch with what gamers want (creative, fun games, not GaaS and agenda pushing). He also seems like a genuinely nice guy if you watch some interviews. Of course they got rid of him.

darthv7255d ago

Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.

Agent7554d ago

Microflop. After Windows XP and Xbox 360, it all went floppy.

S2Killinit54d ago

Floppy 😆
No pun intended

badz14955d ago

Yoshida for President! Jim Ryan was and always be a hack! Sony should get Shu back

Lightning7755d ago

All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
