David Jaffe deletes his Twitter profile

GZ: David Jaffe has forcibly removed himself from Twitter following an argument over used games.

Originally lead on God of War at Sony Santa Monica, David Jaffe opened his own studio Eat.Sleep.Play with Scott Campbell in 2007.

The team has signed a three game deal with Sony and is expected to release a new Twisted Metal game in 2010.

Already known for his enthusiasm and openness on the internet, Jaffe has extended his web presence following his separation from Sony, posting video podcasts and articles concerning the video games industry on his personal blog spot.

Most recently, Jaffe made his opinions on used game sales clear: retailers, including GameStop, should cut game developers and publishers in on their used game sales, otherwise they'll be forced to find other ways to sell games apart from retailers.

Good maybe he will stop with the antics and give us Twisted Metal!!

morganfell6138d ago

The problem is he made a similar pronouncement before. He'll be back, just wait and see. He will kick out a vlog. He can't stop himself.

Elven66138d ago

I remember that, wasn't it a month off over a single Calling All Cars review?

I bet one of the higher ups told him to ease up so he is just making it look like he is being tested by his fans. =/

Carl14126138d ago

I love Jaffe, i like the way he always speaks his mind about everything.

TheTwelve6137d ago

I was following him on Twitter and recall this rant he went on. This is what happens when two dirty-mouthed bastards meet----they cancel each other out. LOL.

Jaffe, just keep bringing us your amazing ideas IN GAME, keep them on Sony platforms, and I'm fine.

FantasyStar6137d ago (Edited 6137d ago )

Why only on Sony's platform? Why can't Jaffe share his genius ideas with everyone?

TheTwelve6137d ago

I would prefer ALL games be platform specific because then the devs can truly make the most out of specific hardware/software potential.

It just so happens that Jaffe does a good job doing it for Sony and I would like it to stay that way. So far, he has no inclination of going elsewhere and that pleases me.

@twelve great point.I was just gonna say the Xbox was sh!t

Dark General6137d ago

I was actually a frequent reader of his criminalcrackdown blog. Oh well, I guess that's just how things play out sometimes.

That pretty much amounts to an acknowledgement of defeat. I love the gift he gave us with God of War but his genius needs to stay within the arena where it is armed to defend itself. Debating game politics is not one of those abilities.

He has always had a "the other kids threw a rock at me so I am going to my room and not play" attitude. Never mind he himself was tossing stones at passing cars.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion but if you are going to stick it out there you had better be prepared to have it whacked off. To put it another way, don't get in the ring to box if you can't take a punch.

Pennywise6138d ago

Well he said the purpose was so he can stfu and concentrate on making his game. Next time we hear from him will be a game announcement.

techie6138d ago

The thing is...he's always right.

morganfell6138d ago

...not in this case. And running away certainly doesn't prove it.

gaffyh6138d ago

I personally didn't see what was wrong with his argument. Especially for gamers, in fact if what he was saying happened, gamers would see no difference. We would still be able to trade in games and Gamestop would just have to cut in the devs on the used game sales.

The egghead guy just went in with a provocative stance, it was like he didn't even want to listen to what Jaffe was saying. Just wanted to argue with him.

techie6138d ago

He was right in this case, his words were just twisted into saying something he wasn't. he wasn't right to have a hissy fit though...but his point was correct.

mintaro6138d ago

Was this because of the whole used game argument?

Proxy6138d ago

Reminds me of the computer game loser insult, "just uninstall."

Jaffe my friend, just delete your account, it's for the best.

Serg6138d ago (Edited 6138d ago )

Jaffe was treated the way most intelligent people are treated. He made a point, the majority lacks the braincells to understand it and just goes with what they could process, resulting in taking offense to what he said, while completely ignoring the context.

He said consumers should always get the best deal they can find, be it discounts, imports or used games. He also said the consumer shouldn't worry about the developers and shouldn't pay full price for a game just to support them. Then he pointed out that the current state of the used game market hurts the industry, which it does, and people take shots at him like he is the devil of the industry.

He said there should be an industry standard to give the publishers and developers a piece of the used games pie, he doesn't say the consumers should stop selling/buying used games.

His mistake was to bring a business level topic to a public discussion.

techie6138d ago

mintaro - at least read the first sentence, let alone the article.

mintaro6138d ago

I would but 2 years of being on N4G have trained me otherwise.

Carl14126137d ago

I agree with gaffyh and Serg. His point was valid and i think it would be a good thing to have happen. I know how annoyed i would be if i spent a long time doing something, and then loads of people bought it and i didn't get a penny of it. It wa a good, valid suggestion. His words were just twisted into being stupid.

techie6137d ago

Surely 2 years on N4g should have trained you to avoid the comments and just read the article?

mintaro6137d ago

You would think, but the comments are just to irresistible to miss.

gaffyh6137d ago

@deep - Yeah you just cannot miss the comments from fanboys, they are hilarious.

Daivd, you disapoint me so by rooling over like a kicked puppy, reopen the account and fight back, I feel you're right.

jack_burt0n6138d ago

lol @ the jaffe haters and yet god of war collection is ur no 1 wanted game.

and when twisted metal gets a reveal he will be a videogame legend again.

Pennywise6138d ago

LOL @ Lack of comprehension.

We don't hate Jaffe... we would rather him working on the game we want rather than fighting with teenagers on twitter.

morganfell6138d ago (Edited 6138d ago )

There is a difference between disliking a person and disliking the product they produce. That idea is fairly elementary.

If you were to go through your house and pull everything out you own that you like then there is every chance that some of the people producing those products would not wind up on your favorite people list.

jack_burt0n6138d ago

@penny

I am referring to the fact that another meaningless article focusing attention to someones personal actions/reactions on the interwebs is going to gather more steam than the fact his games are so good they are the first to get a bluray collection re release.

Comprende?

Elven66138d ago

You don't have to agree with someone to like or not like their games. There is a reason why other developers in this position avoid controversial topics because it will cost them sales and possibly worse.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle57d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde63d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

Soy64d ago

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
