It's a common thing in Batman stories to hear of the Joker escaping captivity and wreaking havoc (usually with Batman in hot pursuit) but this time around things are a little bit different. Though the Joker has seemingly escaped, it turns out that he actually stays within the walls of his prison, holding the entire facility hostage, and leaving Batman as the only person to figure out what the clown prince of crime is up. This is where players start in Batman: Arkham Asylum – a third person action game (where players watch the story unfold from over the shoulder of our hero), drawing upon a great deal of the title character's lore, gadgets, and hand to hand combat abilities.

Discover the best Batman Arkham games ranked from Asylum to Knight, including Origins, VR and more, with a focus on combat, story, and world design.
