IGN: TMNT: Arcade Attack Hands-On

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Arcade Attack is exactly what the name implies; an ode to the old beat-em-up designs of the 1980's and 90's. Before IGN gets too far in the write-up though there are some dreams to crush at least just a little bit. This one is not 2D, much to their dismay, and while the game does play like a 2D fighter they continued to be baffled as to why Ubisoft went this direction.

why the hell do these retarded developers keep making shi* like this in d3 for? First of all they wont look good on the ds, and secondly 3d is outdated/boring it's nothing like hand drawn art and never will be.

Turtles in Time is one if my favorite games ever. And it is probably the games I've beaten the most times. My cousin and I beat it dozens upon dozens of times to improve our completion time.

It was the perfect beat'em up game.

One of the best old school arcade ports, classic.

Still hope they revisit this franchise and give it the Batman Arkham City treatment.

PALGN: TMNT: Arcade Attack Review

Arcade Attack is not necessarily a broken game, but it's not an entertaining one either. The gameplay is extremely bland and simplistic and the controls are clumsy and slow. The best part of the game is seeing the old comic strips brought to life. It all feels uninspired and pointless and feels more like an old Gameboy title than Nintendo DS one. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Arcade Attack is a poor game that isn't worth your time and certainly isn't worth your money.

Aussie-Nintendo: TMNT: Arcade Attack Review

The 3D graphics are basic, blocky and lacking any sort of style. Going with polygons in the first place was a pretty dodgy idea; 2007's TMNT brawler on the GBA had fantastic 2D sprites, and that was also from Ubisoft!

Catchy, energetic music played a big part in the old-school beat 'em ups, but Arcade Attack ditches that nonsense in favour of forgettable, yawn-inducing elevator music. There's no voice work whatsoever, no "cowabunga", no "d'aw, shell-shocked" - not even a single grunt from the various goons you're beating up. Whoever came up with the idea of trying to recapture the old Konami magic had good intentions, but the end result completely misses the mark.
