Mysterious Valkyria Chronicles Code Teases Fans

Apparently Sega's got something they want to tell us about PS3 RPG Valkyria Chronicles or upcoming PSP game Valkyria Chronicles 2. Instead of just sending out some press release though, they're making a game of it.

VC is one of the best games in 2008, and I even enjoyed it more than mgs4. Too bad the new one is just for the psp.

umair_s516104d ago

Yeah I hope they another VC for the PS3

Rigmaster6104d ago

Another VC for the PS3 would be incredible.

I am perfectly happy with the next VC coming out for the PSP. For some reason it makes me think of how much I enjoyed playing Jeanne d'Arc on my PSP.

I can't think of another game that was critically acclaimed by both the media and gamers and did so poorly in sales. It is nauseating to think of the game people bought instead of this when they both came out at the same time.

Unbiased16104d ago

Didn't PS3 version sell bad? Having it on PSP makes sense for SEGA. PSP is huge in Japan and VC on PS3 sold over 200k in Japan, not much but more than in west.
That game need trophies so bad!

EvilCackle6104d ago

I can't speak to the sales in Japan, but I imagine releasing it in North America in the middle of the holiday crunch (first week of November) really didn't help things. Pushing out a new IP during that period just feels like a bad move.

Bob Dole6104d ago

Yeah trophies would have been cool. Especially for beating the 'hard' levels. Holy sh1t those were hard.

Unbiased16104d ago

I don't think marketing for that game was good. I have a lot of friends thath have PS3 but don't know about VC, they think it is some generic Jrpg.
Atlus is doing good job with marketing Dsouls, educating people about the game, that is why a lot of PS3 owners are interested in that game, i think that is essential thing to do with new IPs.

Obama6104d ago

Actually it has sold more than 500k, and Sega is quite happy with the sales. May be it has something to do with the recession, who knows?

Unbiased16104d ago (Edited 6104d ago )

Of course SEGA is going to say something like that, if they were "happy" than sequel would be also for PS3, not PSP. it is VC2 not some spin off. It is good that they believe in IP and want to support it, and i am sure it will come back to PS3 eventually, but i doubt they were "happy". 500k was good durring PS1 era, and VC desereved at least 1.0-1.5 million

Obama6104d ago

I agree with you that it deserves at least 1.5 million sales, but at the same time I don't think Sega expected this game to sell a million. In any case I hope the sequel is great. May be the third one will be on ps3, who knows?

PirateThom6104d ago

What JRPG has sold that many this gen let alone a an SRPG?

It's a neich game, 500k for a neich game with little advertising that spread by word of mouth is fantastic. What it deserved and what it had realistic expecatations of selling are two different things.

umair_s516104d ago (Edited 6104d ago )

I agree while 500K isn't a bad figure, the game deserves better sales, at least a million IMO. Sega made the canvas engine for this game so another PS3 bound VC makes sense.

Obama6104d ago

Not to mention that it has sold almost twice as much as TOV, a traditional jrpg. That's quite impressive in a way.

raztad6104d ago (Edited 6104d ago )

Just as a reference Amazon was selling ToV at $15 very recently and then it went back to $20+. VC lowest price point was $30 (Gamespot). It sold out and it's currently $40 everywhere.

N4GAddict6104d ago

The PSP version is cheaper to make and the system is more popular than the PS3 in Japan. So it's not really surprising to see VC2 end up on PSP.

Redempteur6104d ago

at least VC became popular enough to get sequels AND an anime adaptation ... for a new titles this was unexpected .. and this proves that sega has some plans for this franchise ...

Alex_Mexico6104d ago

VC1 sold more than 500k which is very very good for a niche SRPG (a genre thats not known for selling tons).
The sad thing is, VC2 will probably achieve something similar to VC1 but it'll cost much less to produce.
Sad times :(
I want another VC for PS3.

Only on PS3.
It only does EVERYTHING.

Jack-Pyro6104d ago

They'll announce that it's coming to PS3 as well, and the PSP edition allows you to do certain things, you know like connect or something!

...hey I can dream right?

Sega is great for relegating its characters to cameos in other games. Heaven forbid they announced Valkyria Chronicles 5 or remaster VC 2 & 3.
