Top 5 Fire Graphics This Gen

A reader says " As with water , fire is also hard to replicate in games, with so many physical attributes and properties like fire inflaming other objects in the game world and fire spreading, fire is essential for many things like explosions or a game which utilizes the fire element, or they can just be lazy and add generic 2D pixalated sprite.."

Far Cry 2 should be first given all the dynamics that go into the fire. It's an open world game which means that the fire is not just some scripted event for a few minutes. Also I'd even say Killzone 2 should be higher than Alone in the dark.

It's funny how this site got hits off of their water article so now they do fire. I guess next we shall see snow and ice. Let me guess Lost Planet is number 1?

sunil6085d ago

No Uncharted, MSG4 hmm....

jammy_706085d ago (Edited 6085d ago )

no uncharted, gears, mgs4..... ohhhhh, its fire, i thought it was just graphics lol

Raf1k16085d ago

Yeah FarCry2 has the best fire so far.

NoBias6085d ago (Edited 6085d ago )

I tell you what though, I'm still shocked at the graphics behind Resident Evil 5 (Graphics in general). They looked amazing, IMO. I think given the right IP, Capcom could be in a position to turn a lot of heads with MT Framework 2.0

I hope Dark Void ends up being fun...

Close_Second6084d ago

RE5 graphics looked great but were totally gimped. Clipping issues, you couldn't walk through bushes and those you could walk through did not react at all. The water effects again were last gen, sure they looked good but when you interacted with the water the splash/ripple effect was laughable.

RE5 game graphics were far too scripted. You could only open doors or smash windows that they wanted you to. Play the game 50 times it will be the same experience 50 times.

NoBias6084d ago

But it was nice to look at haha. I tried interacting with a lot, with not too much success as you've mentioned. One cool thing that I did find was when you walk through certain areas that were dripping that black ooze substance, if you stood under it, it would drip onto you. Nothing major but kinda cool seeing as how I wasn't expecting it considering how still everything else is in the game.

ZBlacktt6084d ago

Yes it's says this gen. But, check out MGS3 for the PS2. There's a boss in there called Fury ( sure many know of the battle with Snake ). Man, this is epic fire for a PS2 gen time frame.

Sorry... KZ2 should be first.... Thats the most realistic fire effect I have seen....

YellowLightzOfDeath6085d ago

But i dont think killzone had the best fire. Hell even uncharted 2 seems to have a little better fire from the explosions.

cyclindk6085d ago

I agree that Killzone 2 had the technically most advanced fire effects for consoles, i.e dynamic lighting on ALL objects including individuals that are on fire and the surroundings, this included proper "movement" of the fire depending on wind or if a person was moving while on fire, you know, running around and so on.

Far Cry 2 wins it for me, it was semi-dynamic, very realistic looking most of the time and fun to use/see.

I just finished killzone 2 today and actually stopped and looked at the fire and thought "this is some poor looking fire." I was looking at something that was on fire in the level(a burning drop ship I think) and not a burning person so maybe thats why it looked bad. I actually thought the fire in KZ 2 stood out as pretty bad compared to everything else around it.

edit-- yes kale Ive seen the flamethrower in gears but im not sure why you bring it up. I never said it was better and gears 2 isnt on this list. I think that KZ 2 looked great but the fact everything looked great made the poor looking fire stand out. I looked at a burning thing and really thought it wasnt up to par with the rest of the game. Not just the flamethrower counts a fire effects, but also when there is something burning like a crashed dropship, I noticed the fire to be pretty bad.

cyclindk6085d ago

@Poopface the 2nd -

Oh yeah, "placed" fire effects are pretty static and poor to see and I admit that the flamethrower effects aren't that "spectacular" to see like from a movie or something (Aliens) but just from a TECHNICAL aspect it is pretty advanced stuff. Personally, I would have preferred a slightly dumbed down flamethrower in favor of a more spectacular version.

Maybe they'll achieve both in the sequel.

kalebgray926085d ago (Edited 6085d ago )

have you seen gears 2 fire... its like paper thin lmfao

lmao look at this picture it is 4616 x 2760

Lich1206085d ago

@kale

Are you talking about the flamethrower in gears 2? Because I thought they did a pretty good job with that. It was a good mix of realism with enough solidity to the fire so you could really tell where you were shooting it.

While I liked the flamethrower in KZ2 I found I kept burning myself because it was less obvious where the flames were. But also, you can't pepper the environment with flames in gears like you can in KZ2. I liked both the flamethrowers for their different reasons. They both had very different feels.

HL2: Episode 2 has surprisingly good fire.

UnSelf6085d ago

If kz2 isn't 1st I'm not even gonna waste my time reading

callahan096085d ago

I played Alone in the Dark on PS3 and loved it. Very under-rated game, not quite sure why it got hated on so much. I thought it was tense and had pretty good graphics, and yeah, the fire in the game was really awesome.

Next ‘BioShock’ Game Changes Leaders After Development Turmoil

Bioshock is one of my favourites franchises. I love all 3 games and have played each several times. I even have a room in my house that is loosely decorated around the theme of Bioshock (with a Lighthouse, coral models and postcards styled as though they are from both Rapture and Columbus).

And yet I am going to find it extremely difficult to get even remotely excited about any future episode in the series after all the problems this has had in its development cycle.

Leave the franchise alone. Remaster them again if you have to. Then put whatever talent you have to use on something brand new.

Furesis271d ago

Since ken levine isn't involved i'm not surprised what's going on. i'm more excited for his next game which looks like bioshock. Yet he still works under take2 and they are making bioshock 4 without him, strange situation.

toxic-inferno271d ago

Yes. Judas. Looks brilliant, but it's one of those games that seems to never have had a release date. Instead it's had release windows that keep getting pushed back.

Once it's ready, I'll be there for it though. Ken Levine is an excellent developer.

I get the feeling he dissolved Irrational Games simply so that 2k couldn't tell him what to do. It seems it will pay off, but I feel sorry for those who worked as part of Irrational before it was dissolved, who hadn't independently made a name for themselves.

ActualWhiteMan270d ago

He didn’t even want to make 2, that’s why they did it without him.

Rebel_Scum270d ago

tbh it wouldnt be a Bioshock game without development hell. They all had it.

Michiel1989270d ago

bioshock 2 was 2.5 years after 1, so much of a development hell it was......

-Foxtrot270d ago

"Remaster them again if you have to"

Well apparently they were doing a remake but that got cancelled

Relientk77271d ago

It sucks this game is in development hell because I love BioShock and would love a 4th game. I hope it turns out great, but I guess we'll see.

P_Bomb270d ago

Love Bioshock. It’s too bad what’s going on. At least we have Judas.

Yui_Suzumiya270d ago (Edited 270d ago )

It's been in development hell since 2014. This is nothing new. It saddens me because it's one of my favorite series. At this point, Judas may end up releasing first.

BABI-PANGPANG270d ago

Bioshock 4 (if it ever comes out) will probably still look and play like a Bioshock game, but without Kevin, it might miss that spark that made the originals so special. Honestly, Judas might end up feeling more like the real spiritual successor.

A really good month this time.

Don't care for NBA but its pretty cool that Destiny 2 is now completely? with all dlc? available via ps+ essential for those who have it since years.

Also Alone in the Dark and Bomb Rush will be played through by me.

Elda336d ago

I'll download The Final Shape.
