I'm sorry, but how exactly do you know that the new game is only worth 29.99? Have you played the whole game? Do you have some kind of inside information that I haven't heard?

Look, I agree, it may be a little early for a sequel, but from everything I have heard from Valve, who I trust to a certain degree, this game is a true sequel, forth the full price.

So I ask again, how do you know?

Two things:

But first off, I was a PC gamer long before I was "serious" console gamer and that means I am particularly well acquainted with Valve's work and their engine.

My first point falls on an aspect NOT so common in the console world (though it continues to expand with games like LBP, Mod nation Racers, et cetera) which is Modding. I have seen mods with TEN TIMES the content, ten times the graphical prowess and (a personal opinion) ten times the fun of Left 4 Dead. This is only more of a factor because Valve isn't doing anything new with their engine here either and it comes down to one thing... how much effort went into creating something should dictate its price and the price of this game is too high for what it does and doesn't do.

Secondly, "how I know;" well, NO I am not in the development studio keeping tabs on how much of a budget this or that game gets, but YES common sense dictates that this title, without considering unforeseeable underhanded dealings in which artificially inflated budgets are created to line the pockets of publishers or CEOs, partners, et cetera, should under NO CIRCUMSTANCE cost what most other triple A titles of this generation do (recouping the cost of development is a non issue for this title, costs should be minimal).

You wouldn't pay full price, 59.99 for a PSN/XBLA title like BF:1943 would you (even though I love that game)? Dice recycled their engine, gave players a couple of weapons, a couple of maps and vehicles and sold it for what they KNOW it's worth based on the time and effort it took to create it.

Yes I have played L4D1 in its entirety otherwise I would not be so absolute with my judgment and whatever you PERCEIVE as the game's value is different from what the game's value is on the "standard scale" which includes development costs/resources (people, time, et cetera), and of course a reasonable markup from that number to turn a profit on the game. There are plenty of games that I would gladly pay MORE than the retail price for because I love them THAT much, but that has nothing to do with anything other than my own admiration/appreciation for a game and the work put into it... L4D and most other Valve titles, while fun and innovative at times, don't display the technical (most costly part of any development) advances that warrant their pricing structure.

Nintendo's consoel isn't worth 250 but they keep it there because people pay it - DOES NOT MAKE IT WORTH, part for part, THAT PRICE!!! -
