I wish I could see the friend list, trophies, as well as any new avatars they may have added (if they did?). Unfortunately I cannot log on sadly, even turning it on and off twice yields no change so oh well may just check it out in the morning before I go to class. Anyway thanks Sev for the list.

just got on and i dont really like this update at all. The XMB is way too big, the friends list takes up too much space and really does not look very impressive.

And new startup sound. Goes perfectly with PS3s new image (the Slim). But is it me or is XMB a little big now? And I'm not so fond of the grey boxes around friends. My old themes icons are blown up now and look tacky :(

1. when scrolling down a huge list of items in xmb it now shows how far you are down your list.

3. new clock while loading...

4. theme icons are clear and jelly like.

5. when you press select on a digital photo while viewing it, it shows what settings your camera was on while takings the picture.

6. When setting up new connection or testing your internet you can now see connection speed upload/download.

7. dynamic themes are not videos. they are rendered live in background!

8. xmb is slightly larger than before.

well i'm usually positive with PS3 news but somewhat i dont like the new friends list... hopefully it'll grow on me like the ps3 slim;s design grew on me after a while

Has to be the most convoluted piece of **** system of design I have ever seen ruin what was good about before.

Where is the splash screen before games where is the ******* MATA FONT at all.

AH HEM! the slim isn't even out in many people's hands did you forget that 25 million people have the other PS3's and that the old font is on every ps3 game box for christ!

Firmware 3.0 best kept secret...NOT (no wonder Eric did not show this). Seriously this is the worst update, Sony could of sorted out a few features like the internet browser. Wow we (existing PS3 owners) had to wait two weeks for this POS update. I feel like throwing my trey out of the window. The typeface is too big, the text wasn't illegible to begin with. I hope people complain to Sony. The PS store under the Game icon directs you to the homepage of the PS store (what a waste). I'm sorry people, I wish I had 2.76/2.80 update instead of this. This update shouldn't of been forced on you to update your PS3 (it should of been like 2.80). The only features I like are the dynamic themes and the ability to copy and paste texts. THE BOOT UP SUCKS. Another thing...WHERE ARE THE DAMN NEW AVATARS WE WERE PROMISED?

I like it mostly but the blurred background when you choose a sub menu is likely to give me headaches

i love what they did with the friends list,before if i had a really busy looking theme i couldnt read anything.now that there on gaming tags its perfect.plus later on in smaller updates there going to make the tags customizeable like in blog on PS3 web sites.this is just the start of a greater things to come!!

...Where are the new avatars? I looked and they added groups as well as a spot for "premium avatars" but no new ones.

Overall i'm not blown away. It was an ok update with some nice features to generate more revenue for sony as well as some very "beta-ish" features. Specifically the Friends list backgrounds and the rectangle in the upper right.

These seem to be things that will be extended and are probably related to the animated themes.

I wonder if Premium means animated avatars...

I dont know if im going crazy or what but i was scanning through my ps3 systems setting and turned on to bitstream instead of lpcm and the dts hd master is working correctly where as in the past it wouldnt work?.... maybe im trippn' out i do need some sleep

tbh the friends background block looks awkward to me =S other than that, i'm fine w it all, even the bigger XMB =)

About the update, I really have no complaints. I like it.

hey there are actually no problem with loading trophies, they are uuuuultra fast now ! And compaing trophies always was pain in ass. Now it's quick as hell !

Love the update and the animated themes,especially considering that the update is free.

Im glad I can see the friends list because of my backround I couldnt see what games my friends were playing but now I can with the grey.I like the new dynamic themes too I hope sony adds a gran turismo theme to the store.

Now that Jim Ryan is gone just need to remove Herman Hulst from his position! And maybe give Shuhei the position he deserved.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
